Speaker 1 (00:04):
We are celebrating today a Cowboys victory Monday here on
the Andy Everett Show. I'm your host for the next
couple of days, Sam Freeze filling in for Andy as
he has a crossover UTSA duties going this week. Of course,
a big win for UTSA in the Dome Saturday, and
(00:24):
also more calls for a formal investigation into whoever's running
the soundboard at the Alamo Dome. We'll get into that
in our elongated football happy hour there in the six
o'clock hour. But we got a lot of Cowboys to
talk today, So get I would say, get ready to
(00:45):
be overwhelmed with Cowboys talk, Cowboys force fed, that's the
better words. In a season where you cannot be more
five hundred than being five to five and one, you
got to celebrate the little victories and tying your largest
comeback in franchise history against a division rival, against the
(01:07):
division leading Philadelphia Eagles. We're gonna find some plenty of
plenty of moments to celebrate, starting with let's do some
sounds of the game from yesterday. It's not often that
your long snapper has his name called on the broadcast.
Usually the only time you get that is a penalty. Yeah,
(01:31):
And it's kind of like hearing, you know, like when
you hear the name of a referee be mentioned on
a broadcast, unless it's someone that has a specific bit
that you're aware of. Usually if you're hearing the ref's names,
it means there's some questionable calls or held just a
lot of calls, which there were a lot of penalties
(01:53):
in that game. What was it, twenty twenty two's twenty
two altogether something like this.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
It felt like, and I might be wrong, I felt
like in the first half they were very much on
Dallas more and in the second half, I feel like
they're more.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
On Philly, oh one thousand percent. Yeah, I mean it swung.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Pretty, you know, pretty symmetrically with the way the scorer
also swung. But yesterday we got to hear possibly for
the first time all year. If you don't know his name,
he was the guy who recovered the fumble on the
punt return attempted punk return by the Eagles that sounded
(02:30):
like this. Listen for Brady's just absolute fan on the
couch reaction to this hit.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Catches it up A one gets a good block and Gibson.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
I love the smack of the place, Trent sing I
think got it.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
He's the long snapper and he holds it in Holy Cow?
Speaker 2 (02:56):
How many people knew Trent Seg was the long snapper
before that besides us?
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (03:01):
The only way you I think they mentioned it during
Monday Night Football last week because Trent Sig had spent
like five years with the d with the Raiders, right,
so I think he might have gotten to mention.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
And before that they had like the same long stepper
for like twenty years.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Do you remember his.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Name, JP lattisaur Of course I know.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
It was like I thought I was aloud to say
it was something French name, right, he's from.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Canada, Yeah, something like that. It was like one of those
like no one could pronounce it right.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
So again, kind of like the NFL's leading receiver. You
just say it fast if you don't have confidence. So
you got JP Latis Jackson, Yeah, exactly. Yeah, the Trent Sig.
It is funny, how you know very I'm not sure
many other fan bases are running TikTok montages of their
long snapper, but yeah, it was a bit of a
(03:48):
story when JP was replaced by Trent Sigh. But it
wasn't just the fumble recovery? Can you can we actually
hear that one more time? Because you're right, the reaction
of Brady. Brady's the voice you hear scream whoa and
then the react to hearing the actual helmet to the
(04:08):
pads on the Eagles player that that fumbled it.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Give me that one more time, catches it at the.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
One gets a good block and Cowboys recovered it. Trent
Sing I think got it. He's the long snapper and
he holds it in Holy.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
That was Brady the player react by the broadcast.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
The broadcast you could hear from from Kevin Burkhard like
Kevin Barkart, Like he has like a natural baritone voice,
but he a lot of times his excitement kind of
feels manufactured.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
On the big time. He's avin.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Not that he doesn't care.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
He's Kevin Brohard.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
It's like Gus Johnson. To me, I think is the
best play by play in sports. At least he's my
favorite because like he's excited about everything.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Man, give me Tessa Tour right now. Give me give
me tests, whether it's Holy Moley, mini golf or a
massive SEC matchup.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
I mean, I mean Pat and John were kind of
the the gold standard.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Well, I think that's that's what you're kind of getting.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
There is more of the mad the boom or you know,
just the guttural reaction from a former player coach like Madden,
like Brady. Yeah, that was that was Brady from the
sideline as a player, or Brady from the couch as
a fan, and that looked Brady also had his own issues.
(05:31):
Yesterday might have said the ultimate bad word on it.
It was it was so questionable. I sent it to
you and then I retracted the message because I was like, no,
I don't think, no, I don't think we need to
be playing that again. He left it off as best
he could because he realized, exactly.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
We I give Brady.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
That's a Howard Stern clip on thousand percent.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Well, it's going to be on the podcast. It's going
to be on the Sports Cave with Biggest Puma tomorrow
night when we do the podcast.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
The uh Brady had a lot of cool a lot
of reactionary calls.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah, because we also were going to hear another one
here in a second. But on that specific play, it
wasn't just Trent's sig recovering the fumble. The This is
one of those deals that it gets blown way out
of proportion the majority of the time, where it's like, oh,
(06:27):
that's the kind of play that keeps you in the
league for five years, or that's a play Bill Bates
would have loved, or you know, that's how you stay
number fifty three on a fifty three man roster.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
That's how you feed your family, I say, you get
a job in the NFL. Exactly, it's a little in
between plays.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
I saw Bamani Jones put out today talking about as
soon as he saw the hit on that play by
Elijah Clark hitting the Eagles return man, his first thought was,
that's a I don't want to go back clip like,
that's a that's a good everything I grew up around.
I don't want to go back to that. And Elijah
(07:03):
Clark grew up in Camden. So back to your back
to the first start. Yeah, oh yeah, I played at
Syracuse ID for Syracuse. He was uh And once they
got them.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
You saw that.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
You saw that elementary school kids at Camden Elementary that
were just like beating up those pump punching bags with
the cowboy players.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
They're Eagles. They they propagandized them early. They get them
locked into what what it takes.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
You've got to learn.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Someone's got to teach you to throw snowballs at Santa
Claus and then you got to learn early. But once
I think Fox went to commercial break and then came
back and had uh this second angle of the punt,
of the fumble on the punt, and it was the absolute,
like as cliche as it is, the absolute dogged determination
(07:54):
of Elijah Clark on that play, getting knocked down a
couple of times and still getting down there laying that hit.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
All these years I've tried to get look at that hustle.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Who wants to be a gunner in the NFL?
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Not me but Clark?
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Relentless effort, Just.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Great hustle and then causing a massive turnover there, great
team effort.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
What a hit by Clark.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, that I think when when Brady is the reactionary
fan slash former player, he's great. The it's authentic, it
feels real like hearing him talk about who wants to
be a gunner in the NFL? I know, I don't
like that's that's that's where most that's right exactly. We
(08:38):
don't think of you ever being a gunner in the NFL, uh,
Tom Brady. But yeah, as cliche as it was, uh
that that play by Elijah Clark, the determination to get
down there and absolutely pop the hell out of that guy. Uh,
for the Eagles forced the fumble? What was that with that?
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Was?
Speaker 1 (08:58):
That was right after So the possession right before that,
right that was with five minutes to go in the game.
We're going to talk about the Cowboys possession, some questionable
decisions from Shoddy right after that fumble recovery. We'll get
to that in our five o'clock football Happy Hour. But
(09:20):
the possession before for the Eagles was about seven and
a half minutes left. And a guy that I think
you and I have, but two guys really that you
and I have talked about, how I would think I
would enjoy it if he wasn't a part of my
active roster every Sunday. The Sam Williams playing in a
(09:43):
contract year that hasn't performed like he's playing in a
contract year. And Kenneth Murray Junior, who somehow the Cowboys
actually drave up gave up draft capital four on the
final year of his deal. Two guys that I think
still regardless of yesterday will probably be playing their last
(10:04):
few games as a member of the Dallas Cowboys over
the course of the next two months. But that being said,
Kenneth Murray Junior led all linebackers and snap count yesterday
and Sam Williams was the highest graded Cowboy on either
side of the ball, which is something you haven't been
able to say all season, higher than George Pickens even
(10:26):
crazy enough, and the two of them combined to make
Saquan's day look that much worse.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Second along Hurts, Kings, Tigers clips apart the nice still
play he wants to part, It's loose, Cowboys Recover, Sam
Williams knocked it out, and Kenneth Murray takes it home.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
So you heard a little bit of it there. The
Brady oh yeah, oh like.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
I like to say that he's kind of stuck his
oh is his reactions into every play.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
I think that's that's the one.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
If you were gonna tell me what do I notice
most about Brady's broadcast in a positive light, I would
say it's exactly that. It's when he is just the
authentic fan on the couch or when he's himself, yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Let's go, type of Tom Brady has hyped up Tom Brady, right,
because you know he misses the game.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
He always he can't play it anymore.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Yeah, and when he tries to do the broadcaster Tom Brady,
it turns into the Tom Brady. You see, that's a.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
You know, a bit of a robot filming.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Yeah, a robot filming an Instagram video like we played
talking about him discussing that picture of him playing in
the sun at Jerry World.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
And then lastly the I don't know, I don't know
if I'm.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Ready to say that this is going to be a
success for longer than two or three years, Like I'm
not sure I'm ready to suggest that Jerry has found
his new member of the family that will go on
family vacations and be the head coach of the Cowboys
for a decade like Jason Garrett was. But damn it,
(12:10):
it seems like this locker room loves the hell out
of Coach Shoddy.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Let me listen out, listen on.
Speaker 6 (12:20):
Hey, we got a lot of to celebrate, But I
got a question.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
Can you win the game in the first court? Can
you win the game in the second quarter?
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Did we spot twenty one points?
Speaker 6 (12:31):
About?
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Can you win you hang a third quarter?
Speaker 6 (12:35):
What about that.
Speaker 5 (12:43):
We're starting with the takeaways today. Same Kenny recovered it.
Elijah Clark Fort of Foley.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
That I yes, sir, that.
Speaker 5 (12:59):
Presh got through a past.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
George Pecketts Jack Press got through a past.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
The preface by Thorpe and the old Man ran one
of him.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
I love him, call him dat an old man.
Speaker 6 (13:13):
Is this dude lolls out sack and then hey, nothing
like walking them off and Brandon offer big Field. Everything
we've talked about, everything you guys have done it.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
You stacked these days.
Speaker 6 (13:32):
You stacked these wins, you learn because they build championship habits.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
I'm so proud love the man of this room.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
Shotty gets you want, makes you want to run through
a brick wall.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
There's there's some serious there. Okay, there's a little bit
of overcussing there. It does sound like I don't mind it.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
No, I mean Jason Garrett felt like never cussed.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Well until you heard I used you saw a hard
knocks He would cus a little bit like the meetings
and all that, but like on the sidelines of it,
he had the same kind of energy.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Didn't feel like no, And that's where I mean Shody is.
Shody is coach Brow.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
I mean he's a shot biggest at his biggest attribute,
seemingly besides uh leading the number one or top three
offense in the league right now, his best attribute is
the connection to the players. And that's very, very evident,
I think.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Shoddy right now. And this is a very light comparison.
He is Dan Campbell esque just in the way he
approached the players and everything.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Look as someone who used to sit in the same
church pew growing up as Dan Campbell and his and
his full family. Yeah, that is a very bold comparison
to make.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
There are shades of it there.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
I think it's I think the best comparison is look
at Pete Carroll, who Shody was with for all those
years in Seattle. I think that's where you see a
lot of the fun motivation. I mean, even things aren't
going that great for Pete this year, but you know,
it wasn't that long ago that he was getting in
one of those giant inflatable balls and getting pushed around
(15:03):
the practice field up there in Seattle. So yeah, I
look the vibe. When the vibes are good, we got
to celebrate them. And on this Cowboy's victory Monday, they
are not going potentially not going to get much better
for the rest of the year. On another note, though,
the vibes from spurs Land over the weekend not as
(15:25):
good as Cowboy fandom. We'll get into that next here
on The Andy Evert Show.
