Speaker 1 (00:04):
We got to talk some Spurs.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
I it would be sacrilegious to sit in the big
chair today and tomorrow and not get into some Spurs talk. Unfortunately,
the three game win streak is no more. Spurs dropped
one on the road last night, one eleven, one oh
two to the Spurs, and damn if it wasn't Sons. Yeah,

(00:27):
if it wasn't Dylan Brooks again being the absolute thorn
in the side that he is. It feels like he's
either he's either what we saw yesterday, a twenty five
point scorer that actually plays winning basketball, or he's absolutely
worthless and fouls out or gets double tech and is

(00:48):
out of the game in the first half.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
It feels like he wants to be not exactly, but
it feels like he wants to be on the same
villainisque level as like a Draymond Green almost.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, there's there's so. I think he has a better offensive.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Game, yeah, definitely, Well, depend he's not consistent.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
But like if you're talking about, like which one am
I going to bet on the score twenty points?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:09):
I was about to say he has a better scoring game, right,
I think Draymond is still the better offensive player. Just
because Draymond's ability to.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
We're talking all fastest than sure, which we'll get into
later on about like Draymond and his position.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, we do have some fun Draymond audio to get
to in the Lightning round.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
What's so frustrating is that, like in the first matchup, right,
the first matchup, the Phoenix Sounds did a great job
of forcing Wemby and Castle in the foul trouble. They
did a great job of doing that. They also said like, hey,
we're gonna double Winby down low.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
We're not.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
We're gonna like if he wants to shoot, he can
shoot on the outside. They didn't mind that they were
gonna They were trying to take away the paint from them,
and they tried. It felt like doing similar stuff like
that to guys like Cornett and o Lino, but not
to the same degree because like, no offense to them,
they're not the same offensive threat that Wenby is.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
No, I don't think they would take offense to that, but.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
They definitely felt like, and maybe I'm wrong, it felt
like a lot of unnecess shots were taken. Guys like Champagnie.
It felt like forced a lot of threes. And when
you get down early and when you get down in
these games, because they had to lead for a while,
but when so was that lead because I think the
third quarter was like the big swing of that game.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
As as it is, it's every game this season.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
You forced shots you didn't need to take. And it
wasn't just him, to his credit, Den Missel also had
a lot of like questionable misses. It felt like they
forced the last shots that didn't need to be taken.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yeah, I think once you I mean, as you said,
they had the lead most of that first half, actually
were had all of it. Were up seven at the half,
and then get out scored thirty seven to twenty four
in that third quarter. So you go from being up
seven at the half to down six after the third.

(02:46):
And they put a graphic up on the on the
broadcast last night. Yea, the Spurs are a net positive
in every quarter this season except the third quarter.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
What is it about that?

Speaker 2 (02:58):
And it is a negative in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
That is a It makes sense they have good starts
to games and in the at the end they close well.
But I guess like according to that graphic, the third
quarter is kind of the relaxation time.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
I guess I don't know. Yeah, well, and I think
you could.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
You know obviously last night it's they've been able to
get past a lot of those third quarter struggles because
they have closers like Castle and Wimby now Fox to
potentially you know that are able to take over games
and control games in the fourth quarter and allow the
Spurs to end up winning the other Besides the third

(03:35):
quarter trend being an issue, the other trend right now,
the Pacific Division is an issue for the Spurs.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Spurs are ten to.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Zero against every team in the NBA not residing in
the Pacific Division.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Something about crossing Nevada just like for some reason that
affects them.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
They are one in five against the Pacific.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Of course, the back to back losses to the Warriors
last week. Now they've dropped both games against the Suns,
they dropped the one game against the Lakers. The one
win they have is against the right No, the hapless
can't light the beam Sacramento as team Portland coming up.

(04:19):
I'm glad you mentioned that because now that they will
need to start a new win streak after having their
own three game win streak. I should also say there's
I hesitate to take too much out of these games.
I mean you mentioned some of the forced shots obviously,

(04:39):
when you don't have when you're when you're missing Wimby,
when you're missing Castle, when you're missing even Dylan Harper,
now your your recent number two pick in the draft.
I hesitate to rush to too much judgment against the
shot selection when you don't have the guys out there
that I mean, Steph Castle was averaging what seven and

(05:01):
a half assist of games something like that, So I
mean that makes your shot selection look quite a bit
better when you have a facilitator playmaker like that on
the court versus when you don't. The one takeaway though,
we talked about this before when all the injuries started
piling up. The way the Spurs were going to stay
competitive with all of their stars missing was on the

(05:25):
defensive side of the ball. They're three and one now
since Wimby's been out plus twenty something point differential, so
they're overall still winning close games. That's four games where
it's a twenty three point differential, so it's basically they're
averaging a plus five each game if you look at
it that way. But more importantly, we talked about it

(05:48):
with Wmby on the court, they were the number two
defense in the league behind Oklahoma City. With Wmby off
the court, they were twenty eight. Well, now over these
last four games they've managed to thirteenth in defense, so
the defense has been there, actually top ten in offense
still without Wemby right there at tenth. So, you know,

(06:11):
promising signs as they navigate life without their stars at
least for another week.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
But you mentioned Portland.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
We've got big NBA Cup games coming up back to back.
Wednesday at Portland that's an NBA Cup game, and then
Friday at Denver, also a Cup game. And I should
say we're twenty two days away from the Emirates NBA
Cup Final. I know how much you love to be reminded,
so excited. Well, speaking of being reminded for fellow Rangers

(06:41):
fans like me, I was reminded of the good old
days this weekend as several World Series heroes left the building.
