Speaker 1 (00:03):
Andrew Zimbile filling in more Andy Everett on this Monday,
as we get you closer to Christmas, Happy festivists to
all those who celebrate, all the Seinfeld fans out there.
It's the airing of grievances today, the feats of strength.
So if somebody comes up to you and starts yelling
you and tries to wrestle, you know they're not a
crazy person on the riverwalk. They are They're a festivest celebrator.
(00:26):
I guess what would you.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Challenge someone in to prove that you were superior in
the feat of strength, Like if you had your own competition.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Oh, I challenge you to this.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Here's the problem, and I don't want to spend too
much time on this. I have a lot of friends
who do jiu jitsu, who do all the mixed martial
arts and then the rolling and stuff, and I am.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
They're looking for a reason to beat you.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
I am a lot larger than they are, we'll put
it that way. I'm talking like three to four, fifteen
to twenty pounds heavier, and for whatever reason, they all
think that because they've gone to jiu jitsu, that if
they can just get me in this like one sleeper
hole that they're going to be good. And I'm thinking
to myself, I like, well, don't you have to like
let somebody do that to you, because unless you're jumping
(01:06):
on my back like Andre the Giant in a princess bride, like,
it's not really happening. I'm a pretty big guy. I'm
like six foot three, you know, pushing like two fifty, Like,
what are we doing? I don't I don't know. I
don't know why the feats of strength. I don't know
why people want to use the feats of strength on me?
Is my question doesn't make sense.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I'm gonna do that. Maybe that beef with you. I
don't give beef with anybody here at the studio.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I'm a jessel giant. I don't know why people are
trying to give me as hard of a time as
they do. All right, let's talk Longhorns and Arizona State. So,
Arizona State the home team this game. It will be
the Peach Bowl played in Atlanta, Georgia, the House of
Horrors for the University of Texas. They cannot seem to
get away from Mercedes Benz Stadium. They lose the SEC
(01:51):
Championship there, they're going back to play Arizona State. If
they beat Arizona State, guess where that next game will
be played Mercedes Benz Stadium. And guess where the National
Championship is. I wonder Mercedes been Stadium. So you potentially,
if you're the Texas Long Warrans or one of the
faithful going there just you know, wrecked out a hotel
at that point, because if you just keep winning, you're
(02:12):
just gonna get to keep staying in Atlanta. And the
other part is how much stuff is there to do
in Atlanta. I know some friends who have gone to Atlanta,
people who have lived in Atlanta. They love Atlanta. It's
a big city. I get that seems like a lot
of time to be spending there.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
If you're like being there, I don't know what they
is to do.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
It seems like a lot of time to be spending
there if you're the University of Texas. The only thing
I can think though, hey, how about this twenty twenty eight,
we're talking about a whole lineup for the Long Warrans
who are from Georgia, because it's like they were just
there for three weeks at one point, just recruiting all right,
So let's get into it. Sarkesian and dialing Eric head
coach Dillingham for Arizona State. By the way, Arizona State,
(02:54):
I saw them play Texas State earlier this year. They
almost lost the Bobcats in San Mark. They probably should
have if we're being completely honest. When the Texas State
played they lost to my Red Raiders.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
I think about this.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I go like, all right, well, you know, if Airs
of the State loses that game, we probably aren't playing
this one. So everything happens for a reason. Texas and
twelve and a half point favorite on that New Year's
Day game. So let us hear about Steve Starkesian. So
Aeras of the State has a handful of players on
their roster who are former Longhorns. This is Steve Starkesan
(03:29):
talking about facing former Texas players, guys that he might
have recruited on that ASU roster that would be cut
number five.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
You know, I think this is college football in twenty
twenty four, you know, and moving forward. It's almost got
a little bit of an NFL feel that way, you know.
And I'm happy for all those guys, you know, especially
the guys that are having some success in coach Dillingham's program.
You know, in this day and age of college football,
(03:57):
it's about creating opportunities for our young people and the
way the transfer portal works, and when new coaches get
jobs and half their roster. I'm sure when Kenny took
over at Arizona State jump ship and now he's trying
to fill his roster, and so that creates opportunities for
other players and other programs to maybe go there and
contribute and find a role that's different than maybe their
(04:19):
role was here and vice versa for that matter. And
so I'm happy for all those guys that they had
this opportunity. You know, you transfer schools and you never know,
we got to transfer to have an opportunity to get
in the College Football Playoff for those things in reality,
and for them to be, you know, in in the
quarterfinal the CFP, I'm really happy for those guys. And so,
(04:41):
you know, I know our players are you know, they
were kind of talking about today so and so yeah,
so and so you know that the name started popping
up again today. So but I do think that's the
era of college football where we're at now. It's twenty
twenty four. The portals alive and well. And I'm you know,
twenty twenty five is gonna roll around. There'll be more
faces moving around.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Aghan has been my biggest grievance on this Festivus. So
this is the transfer portal, guys jumping in and moving
all over the place. I don't know how you fix
the problem. I just know that there has to be
something to do. Oh, by the way game played in
Mercedes Benz, we should mention the Bevo is still excluded,
banned from going to Mercedes Benz Stadium. So it wasn't
(05:22):
just the SEC Championship game that Bevo, the friendly Longhorn
won't get to go to. It's pretty much every Longhorn
game from here on out that Bevo will have to
stay back and watch in Austin, Texas.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Not great. I'm not a fan of that.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Speaking of the four Longhorns on that ASU roster, Xavier
Alford he's a safety, Jake Smith receiver, also Troy Omir
defensive back, Prince Dover and Jamon Tapp all guys who
will be on the ASC roster facing off against Texas. Look,
(05:56):
Texas hasn't suffered a ton of these transfer portal what
I call casualties. There's not like a bunch of guys
who are impactful players who are jumping in the portal
leaving the University of Texas, so that helps. Coach Dellingham.
King Dellingham, the head coach of Arizona State, spoke on
current players facing their old school in Texas. I gotta
imagine this kind of feels like seeing your ex at
(06:19):
the high school dance.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
What is that like? This is cut five.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
That's the nature of the Beasts right now is people
will be moving around, You'll be playing your former teammates.
And I mean at the end of the day, we're
playing in the Peach Ball with eight teams left. If
that is more energy, then something's wrong with you. If
you need external factors to get excited to play this game,
you're at the wrong program here. You know, we want
(06:47):
people who are competitive. Where's eight teams left in college football?
This about competing Verus one of the best teams in
the country in the Peach Ball, and all one hundred
and twenty of our guys get to go. All one
hundred and twenty the guys get to go and experience
what college football is about, and that's competing in one
of the biggest bowl games.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
It's worth noting about Arizona State. They were picked to
finish last in the Big Twelve before the season. They
had an incredible turnaround with coach Dellingham and co.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
And they have done a great, great job getting to
this point. Now.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
The tough part is though, because they won the Big Twelve,
they got that first round by and you have to
feel kind of bad for Arizona State in that way
because you get that first round by. Yes, it does
help the rest aspect of it. You get a little
bit of time to heal up and keep moving. But
this feels like all right, Texas just won a huge
(07:43):
game at home against Clemson against Dabosweeney, a team or
a coach who has won a national championship before, you
think to yourself, like, man, do we really want to
catch these guys right now? Do we really want to
catch Texas? Currently? Sarkeisian also on maybe the best running
back the Texas will face this year in uh Camp's Goataboo,
(08:07):
this is cutting number eight.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
Shame well, I think this. You know, he's a really
versatile player. I think when you first turn on Cam's tape,
you're thinking you're just going to see Mike alstat You're
just going to see this bruiser that's just running into
the line of scrimmage and bouncing off of people. And
then the more you watch him, you're like, man, this
guy's got really good feet. This guy's got great contact balance.
(08:30):
This guy, right when you think he's getting ready to
run somebody over, he makes a miss.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
He uses a stiff arm.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
He's really good in the open field.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
He can run away from you. And then all of
a sudden, you're like, but wait a minute, this guy
catches the ball really well out of the backfield. He's got,
you know, really good initial quickness after the catch to
get vertical. And so he's a really versatile player. You know,
I was hoping he was going to be kind of
a one dimensional guy, you know when you just kind
of watch Sports Center and different things, or you know,
(08:56):
but all of a sudden, you start looking at the
cutup of him and the explosive plays and how they're happening.
His versatility is probably the thing that stands out to
me the most.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Over fifteen hundred yards and nineteen touchdowns for Skataboo, and
I thought you said he should have been a Heisman invite, right,
wasn't that your take? Or no?
Speaker 4 (09:15):
That was Mike.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Mike was was high on that.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
I was the guy who said that that their new
offensive Coaina I can't remember his name, has like really
modified their blocking, which there if you don't know they're blocking.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
It was like, this is the same guy as it
was last year when they were really bad.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
But they've they've they modified the zone run so well
that essentially they have so many guys who were double
team and then peel which I mean, you know, I know,
you know what a peel block is, but like for
those who don't know, I peel block essentially two guys
going one and then once the main guy has a
hold of the defensive lineman, he goes off. I guess
the next threat. They have such cohesion there that's opened
up the lanes. And since Camp Scattaboo's got to be
like two thirty two forty, give or take or someone.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Listen at two fifteen.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
I that that feels low, right, Okay, that little lad
it feels light, doesn't it?
Speaker 4 (09:58):
It does?
Speaker 1 (09:58):
All right? When we come back Monday night football Saints
and Packers, we'll get you ready for it next on
the Andy Everage Show on sports Radio AM seven sixty.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
The ticket
