Speaker 1 (00:02):
All right, here we go. It's our number to three
of the program. Just after six o'clock. Thank you for
spinning your afternoon with us wherever you may be. And
if you're a Dallas Cowboy fan, well I hope you
haven't driven off the road or are about to find
a ledge as Michael has for most of the last
two hours. Just as the show began today at four o'clock,
(00:22):
the breaking news came down that Micah Parsons is no
longer a Dallas Cowboy. He has been Jennison too Green
Bay for two picks and Kenny Clark, a defensive tackle
who may be beyond his years and probably is a
clone of Mazzie Smith at best. So good trade there, Jerry, nice,
(00:43):
nice work. And you're still shaking your head.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
You're lucky I'm still here, Andy, To be honest, you
are so lucky. I'm here. And just I mean I'm
half here.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Coms a rating with the people, that's what we're doing
right now.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
I am just I am just beyond speechless. Again two
picks and to eight. If it was again, if it
was two picks to some terrible team that you know
it's going to be a top ten at worst. Pick then, Okay,
I can be talked into.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Well, let me ask you this. Does this make Green
Bay better than Detroit and Minnesota in the NFC North?
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I mean it at least definitely gives them a leg
up the Boys in the Desert for you know, bet MGM.
Their original odds to win the Super Bowl was plus
twenty two hundred. After the Michael Parsons trade, it is
now plus thirteen hundred, So it has gone down.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
See. I moved Dallas from a bubble team to out
of the playoffs six wins at best, and I put
Green Bay as a bubble team into the playoffs. I
think this is a massive switch in because I kind
of had Dallas and Green Bay as a similar team
that would win somewhere between eight and eleven games. And
(02:03):
now that the Cowboys have gone this route and never
there was never a doubt in my mind until four
o'clock today that Jerry wasn't going to swallow his pride
and sign Micah because he's their best player and he's
been talking about for two years and he's been saving
money to pay Micah. But when Jerry gets his feelings hurt,
he decides to go things in a different direction, and
this is Jerry getting his feelings hurt. So I think
(02:27):
this is a huge impact to the Green Bay Packers positively.
It ratches up their defense very much so, and it
devastates not only the Cowboys defense, but I think the
morale of the team. It's a very good thing for
the Cowboys right now that they don't have a veteran
player who is quote unquote next inline to get paid.
(02:49):
I guess darn Bland would be the next one, but
he's he's going to get safety or quarterback money, probably
not top money, but close to it. But now, if
you are a player for the Dallas Cowboys, if you're
a free agent thinking about going to the Dallas Cowboys,
if you're trying to make sure that you get paid
as a player that's on this team and get as
much as you can, you're wondering if that's the place
(03:11):
that you need to be. And I don't know how
Brian Schottenneimer gets his team together, because everybody knows they're
not as good defensively without Micah Parsons and if and
the offense knows, well, we got to stay on the
field longer. We've got to do more things to protect
the defense. Now we probably have to punt more on
fourth down because then we would on short guarded situations
(03:32):
because we may not have the playmaker that we have
on defense. And I think this trickles down to the
entire team and makes it really difficult for the Cowboys
to get the momentum they want. I thought very much
so that they could be Philadelphia on Opening Night. I
think the happiest person in the world right now is
Jalen Hurts. He's like, I don't have to worry about
(03:53):
anybody coming to get me because they don't have anybody.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
You know, what the Cowboys could potentially be in the
twenty twenty five season is a worse version of the
Cincinnati Bengals. No defense whatsoever, but the offense can at
least give you thirty points.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
That's what it's going.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
And I'm not saying Dak Prescott is Joe Burrow, but again, but.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Ceedee Lamb and Perkins are good enough to get to
put points on the board. Yeah, you have to. And
the Bengals don't have a running back either, so maybe
there is a comparison there. If Jaydon Blue learns how
to not fumble, then he'll probably be the starting quarterback.
They starting running back at some point, but this is
going to be a pass happy Dallas team. And I
don't know that they can beat Washington or Philadelphia at
(04:35):
either time. They may split against the Giants. There's one
win there and that now you've got to win, you know,
seven of the other games just to have a chance
to get close to five hundred seven or eight.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
You know. The second the second person that is probably
thankful as well is Patrick Mahomes. Just remember the Cowboys
played Patrick Mahomes on Thanksgiving this year. He's probably like, Hey,
I don't have to worry about that guy.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Well, here's the other thing. Every tackle right and left
tackle in the league, depending on where he lines up.
If you're playing the Cowboys, you don't have to worry
about him, And if you're not playing Green Bay this year,
you don't have to worry about him. I mean, this
guy is a generational talent. And it would be one
thing if you were in a contract dispute with somebody
that wasn't very good. But you could make a case
that Micah Parsons was the best player the Dallas Cowboys had.
(05:21):
Dak is getting up in age, He's not as efficient
as he once was. They don't have a real running
back yet. The wide receiver course got two good players,
but I would say that Micah Parsons was as good
of a better football player as Ceedee Lamb is. And
now it's going to be contingent on the offense to
put thirty on the board every game or they're not
going to have a chance. And against good defenses. Philadelphia
(05:43):
is a good defensive team. I think Washington's improving in
that area, and as bad as the Giants are, who
knows what they're going to show up on defense. To me,
this changes the entire outcome of what the Cowboys could become.
But maybe it's maybe they got inside information that it's
a good year to go, you know, four and thirteen
and get a good pick in the draft. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
You know what I worry about now is that Jerry
is going to try to overcompensate because George Pickens is
in a contract year. So what I have a feeling
now is, yes, it's more money potentially if George Pickens
has a really good year and wants to stay in Dallas.
But I have a feeling he's going to potentially overpay
(06:26):
now because he's gonna have the the extra money to
go pay George Pickens.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
What does George Pickens make right now?
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I think he's still on the rookie contract, so but
I'm assuming he'll probably want at least thirty you know, maybe.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Twenty seven the four year of a rookie contract six
point seven five million salary this year of three point
six five million.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah, so that's gonna be a guy who's gonna want
to get paid. I just I again, only two first
round drafts. It's a great pickup for the Packers because
now you have a legitimate another in your division.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Let's talk about that real quick, as far as as
Perkins is concerned. Here's the top ten highest paid wide
receivers in the NFL. Jamar Chase forty million, Jefferson thirty five,
Lamb thirty four, Metcalf thirty three, Garrett Wilson thirty two,
McLaren thirty two, A. J. Brown thirty two, Aman Ross
(07:31):
Saint Brown thirty Tyreek Kill thirty, Davante Adams twenty eight. Yeah.
I'm not giving George Pickens more than twenty eight. Not
a chance. He's not as good as any of those
ten players.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
I would go on on a legend. Say he's better
than Davante Smith, I like George Pickens.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
No, it's dividing Adams Davante.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Well, Davante Adams is older than Dirt as well, so
that's that's a contract.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
That is, you know, three years old as well.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
But George Pickens again, he's he's still very much in
the early of his prime.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Well, how about Brandon Ayuk at thirty million, t Higgins
at twenty eight, Jayden Wattle at twenty eight. I might
give Pickens twenty to twenty five. But if he wants more,
I mean by Perkins. But if you Pickens, you got
to If he wants more than that, all right, I'll
draft a wide receiver. See you and Jerry may be
(08:22):
in that boat too. And listen, this is about ego.
This is about Jerry thinking he got his way and
thought he had a deal done. We've heard all this.
Jerry said, I got a handshake deal from him during
an OTA, and I thought the deal was done. And
now the agent's involved. Agents are always involved. I don't
(08:43):
understand why that story keeps coming out that the agents
are are the ones that are messing all this up.
Agents are always, always, always involved in contracts at any
level of sport. Now there are some eight there's some players,
very very few of them that that we don't have agents,
but ninety nine percent of them. I mean, Lamar Jackson
(09:04):
had his mom being an agent for a while until
they realized she couldn't do it because she wasn't certified.
And then she went and got the certification so she
could do it. And I mean, when you're making two
hundred million dollars and two percent of that's four million,
I don't know why you're splitting hairs over that. But
that's what Lamar decided to do. But I think Green
Bay's now playoff team. I thought they were a legitimate
(09:25):
playoff team regardless, I thought they were a bubble playoff team.
Now I think they could win the division.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
I definitely think they are up there with Detroit. I'm
still not sold on Minnesota. Again, we still don't know
what JJ McCarthy is going to be other the fact
that he can hand the ball off to Aaron Jones
and maybe throw an out an out pattern to Jordan
Addison and Justin Jefferson. But I mean, so.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
If you're the if you're an NFC an NFC North opponent,
and the Lions have had what's his name Hutchinson. Hutchinson, Yeah,
for the last couple of years. Yep. And you're like, okay, well,
at least we get a reprieve on edge rushers when
we're playing Minnesota Chicago. Uh. And now you're not a
(10:17):
Green Bay. Now you got to worry about it with
Green Bay. Yeah. So there's another power edge rusher in
that division.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Yeah, it helps green Bay now to And granted I
know that the Lions were, you know, very offensively heavy
with loose but losing Ben Johnson. The way you disrupt
that that style of offense, you get pressure on the
quarterback Jared Goff, good quarterback, not very agile or mobile.
And now when the Packers are playing the Lions, what
(10:45):
is what does the Jared Goff have to look forward to? Oh,
he gets to look forward to trying to run away
and stay away from Michael Parsons.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
So I'm just.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Thank god it's it's Thursday, Andy, because I don't know
if I could if I could take this all week, man,
I don't know if I could. Well.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Now, now next Thursday night, you're gonna have to worry
about it because next Thursday night, the get the the
Cowboys and the Eagles play, and I wonder what the
if the points spread on that game has changed. I
would imagine it has because people are probably expecting Mike
get to play a little bit. And as we were
talking yesterday with Mac Ingele from the four warth Star Telegram,
(11:23):
we all thought that Micah would play whether he got
a new deal or not, and that he would probably
get some kind of a new deal. Now he's not playing,
and we're gonna in the next segment we're going to
talk about what the options the Cowboys have to get
their defense better. But at this stage of the season,
unless you can find a trade partner for a disgruntled
player or a player that you think is less than
(11:44):
than they do or more than the other team does,
that's gonna be a hard deal to get that player
to move over.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
At least according to ESPN dot Com in their ESPN
bet uh, the spread is seven and.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
A half right now. For the was it lower than
that earlier? I think it was still the same.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
It was still either seven or seven and a half,
So it doesn't look at least according to the website,
it hasn't changed yet, but it would not surprise me
if it goes up to like ten.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Well, if the Cowboys play well defensively, then Jerry will
look like a genius next Friday. If they have a
bad night, he's gonna hear about it from every media
outlet and every fan outlet and every Instagram post and
all of that as well. Coming up next week, next
Thursday nights when the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cowboys play,
(12:36):
and now the Cowboys are without I think their best
football player. Yes, I'm a big Cede Lamb fan, but
this is a devastating blow to that locker room, into
the morale of the team. We'll talk more about this
coming up. Rick Barnes has got a new deal with Tennessee.
More in the last forty minutes of the show as well.
It's six thirteen. It's the Indy average show on the
