Speaker 1 (00:09):
Bill Belichick's story will not go away because somebody else
every day decides to chime in on it. And I'm
going to preface this segment by saying this, and I
think Mike and I have kind of said this a
couple of times this week. I don't care what your
ages are if you are of adult age, and most
of us consider that eighteen to twenty one, depending on
(00:31):
what decisions you can do between eighteen and twenty one.
And obviously, Jordan Hudson, the girlfriend, is twenty four and
Bill Belichick is fifty years older, almost seventy four, and
a lot of people are having a hard time comprehending
why these two are together in a relationship that goes
not only personal in a dating relationship, but also in
(00:54):
a business relationship as well. And my first initial thought
and reaction to this is, it's nobody else's business except
for the two of them if they are of sound mind.
And there's people now that are questioning whether Bill is
or not. And Colin Coward had some thoughts on this today.
He had two or three opinions, And you know, I
(01:16):
don't care. And even if it's for even if Bill
Belichick knows that she's only there because she can have money.
And yeah, and Bill's okay with that. He's like, I
don't have anybody else that's spend my money on him
as well, give.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
It to her.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
I don't know if Bill's got kids from future our
past relationships or not. I mean, obviously his son is
the defensive coordinator I think for the team.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
But I mean if he has other kids.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
And maybe they've been taken care of and maybe he's
written out of the will, who knows. But again, when
it comes to having a relationship with someone, the entire
idea about that is it's up to them as far
as the CBS Sunday Morning Interview is concerned, and Jordan
Hudson say, we're not talking about that or that's off limits.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
If I'm going to go do an interview with someone.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
And I you know, it's not like regular people that
come on this show, or you know, an hour ago
we talked to Richard about the Kentucky Derby, so they
know what the topics are. If I'm the if I'm
the interviewer of CBS, before that sitdown ever happens, I'm
calling the uh. I'm either calling Bill or I'm calling
(02:31):
his handler or his PR person or the girlfriend, and
I'm saying, what do you guys, Is there any topic
that's off limits? And if the topics that are off
limits are things that I want to pursue in the
interview because I'm trying to do something at a certain
angle or a certain storyline and they don't want me
to ask about it, then I'm just going to.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Cancel the interview. There's no reason to do it.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
If if the people at CBS wanted to know about
how they met and what their relationship is like, and
what do have seventy four year old and a twenty
four year old talk about and they don't want to
answer that question that should have been part of the
pre interview before the camera's ever rolled. And this idea
that well you have to ask the question but they
don't have to answer it, Well you should have asked
(03:17):
the question before you did the interview in the first place.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
And say, is this on? Is this question okay?
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Do you want to talk about this and also be
able to understand that they may not want to. And
if they don't want to, and that's something that you
think needs to be asked anyway, then expect exactly what
you got from them.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
We told you we're not going to talk about that.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
In Bill Belichick's mind, this interview was about football and
about how to run a football program at North Carolina
and the idea of having a general manager at North
Carolina and having whatever role that Jordan Hudson has at
North Carolina. It was about his book and about the book. Okay, so,
but the book is about football, yes, And the fact
(04:01):
that you know, he talked about his football experiences and
the fact that Robert Kraft is not in the book. Well,
Robert Craft didn't have a lot to do with what
went on on the field. He had a lot to
do with a woman on the front office, and he
created an atmosphere and the culture and money for the
New England Patriots to be successful. But I don't think
that it's you know, I don't think it's anybody's business
(04:22):
what he and Jordan Hudson do when they're in their
own home or in his home or in her home.
Charles Barkley came out today and had a thought about this.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Maybe it was last night.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
He said, my good friend Bill Belichick, I'm worried about him.
I'm not sure what's going on. You know, he's been
a great friend for a long time. We've been friend
since he coached the Browns. I think he's going to
be very careful right now. This is going down a
very slippery slope. Colin Coward said today, this is mutually
beneficial for both parties. And again, if Bill Belichick loves
(04:55):
the relationship because he's hanging out with somebody fifty years
younger than him and it makes him feel good and
she's okay with that, that's fine. That's their business and
it's their life and they're not hurting anybody, and they're
not doing anything wrong, they're not doing anything illegal. But
I think we've made a big deal about something. And listen,
are there are reporters, and there are news agencies and
(05:17):
sports agencies that often look for dirt and or they
look for they look for an angle that's sometimes at
angle that other people don't want you to know about.
And there's always a producer that preps the interviewer. There's
always a producer or the interviewer themselves that calls the
(05:38):
person a, I'm coming to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Is there anything you don't want me to ask you?
Speaker 1 (05:42):
And if all the things that you want to ask
are on the do not ask lisk then you just say, well,
let's just not do it till you're comfortable asking that, because, yeah,
I want to help you sell your book, but I
need you to help me sell some TV ratings by
telling me what you're doing with a girlfriend that's fifty
years younger than you are. So in a way, I
blame the CBS people because in the media, all you
(06:05):
hear from media people is well, those are questions you
got to ask. Well, if you know that they're not
going to ask them, then why are you asking them
if you know you're not going to get an answer.
Years ago, Bonnie Bernstein did an interview with Roy Williams
after Kansas lost in the championship game at basketball and
Roy dropped an expletive on live TV. And I'm sure
(06:28):
that Bonnie didn't want to answer the question I asked
the question. I'm sure that there was a producer in
the truck saying make sure you ask him about the
North Carolina question. You just lost a heartbreaking game in
the finals, and she's got to go do the two
question to the loser coach question. And there's rumors all
over the place that he's going to North Carolina, and
(06:50):
he probably is, but he doesn't want to tell a
bunch of kids that have been a part of his
teams for the last several years.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Hey, by the way, so nice to know you. I'm leaving.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
It's the wrong time to ask the question this idea. Well,
it's media. You got to ask the question. Well, you
know what the answer is going to be. It's the
exact what answer you got. And I don't understand why
you have to ask a question when you know the
answer isn't what you what people want. If Roy Williams
and Roy Williams was going to North Carolina at the time,
(07:22):
but if he just said, yeah, Bonnie, I'm out of here.
I'm leaving. Sorry, sorry to Mike Kansas fans. I haven't
had a chance to tell you. And so why don't
you allow those people to have a moment of reflection
with their team, to have a moment of reflection with
their athletic director and their president, and to address their
team when they get back to Lawrence. Hey, guys, I've
(07:43):
been offered my dream job. I get to go back
home to North Carolina. You're going to start reading things
in the paper, but yes, I'm going and then go
to Bonnie Bernstein or somebody he's not answering that he's
not answering the question afterwards after the game. And the
same thing with Bill Belichick. If they've told you we're
not talking about a relationship, and then you start asking
(08:04):
relationship questions, you're going to get the answers. Now. Barkley
may be correct in that Bilichick has lost his mind
in spending all of his money and letting her have
card watch with a credit card with somebody fifty years
younger than her, but he also may like the benefits
of it as well. So who cares? Who cares what
(08:24):
is going on in their relationship? What matters most or
what should matter most to football fans, and especially to
North Carolina football fans, is touchdown tar heels on Saturday afternoon.
And are you winning games, not who you're dating, not
who your girlfriend is, not what her role is in
the organization, or how much of your nest egg and
your fortune you're giving to her or allowing her to
(08:48):
have access to. As long as you win, you're relevant.
If you go oh to eleven to twelve this year,
no one's going to care who you're dating.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Well, I don't blame Charles Barkley for looking out for one.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
I don't either, because because he could have a middle
lapse of judgment here.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Even if he doesn't have that, it could be.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
You know, we've all been in a situation to where
we think we've possibly met the person of our dreams
to find out that they're not a very good person.
But sometimes it takes an outside source, you know, a
good buddy to say, hey, dude, so.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
And so was doing this. Are you even noticing?
Speaker 3 (09:24):
And you don't notice it because your love struck poppylove whatever,
And then you start to pick up on it and
you're like, hey, they were right.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
So I just apparently she's.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Wrung up eight million dollars of his money on real
estate purchases since since they started dating.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Oh how convenience.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Yeah, and her.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Dad is a is a fisherman, and I think the
New England area in the fishing business with bankrupt and
according to Colin, mom runs a sex toy shop somewhere nearby.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Sex toy slash museum museum shops. Get that right, I
guess you can. You can see what they used to have.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
I don't even want to go down that Avenue and.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
I gotcha, But who cares?
Speaker 1 (10:05):
I mean, if that's what they'd have to do to
make a living, then that's fine. There's a lot of
people that have worse jobs than that. Yeah, and so,
and if Jordan Hudson is providing a outlet for Bill
Belichick that he likes and he's in love and all
that kind of stuff, who's to say is wrong? Again?
I don't know what a seventy four year old and
a twenty four year old have in common, but maybe
(10:27):
they don't care.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Who knows. Who knows?
Speaker 3 (10:29):
But CBS did put out a statement and it's quote,
we agreed to speak with mister Belichick in what was
a very wide ranging interview that they sent to people.
It also goes on to say there were no preconditions
or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with
(10:51):
his publisher before the interview took place and it was completed.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
If there's no question that's off limits, then the well,
here's what you could have done if you want to.
I don't know that I would have done this. And
I don't remember who the CBS news person was.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
It was Tony the co do co.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Yeah, let's just go with Tony Tony. So Tony goes in, Hey,
how'd you guys meet? We're not answering that question. See, yeah,
I'm out of here. That we're done. If you talked
me about your book and you told me that no
question was off limits, you want to promote your book.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Answer this question.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Yeah, and now if you'd have told me beforehand, I
can't ask you about this.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
This and this.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
This happened to me years ago when I was first
in San Antonio. I think I've told this story before.
We used to have We used to carry the Astros
on w o I in nineteen ninety.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
I was about to say wow.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
And in the day back it was we carried Astros
games in the evenings. We didn't carry their day games,
but we carried their their their games on w OI
in eighty eight, eighty nine through about ninety one ninety two,
and we had sportscasts on w a I back when
the format was different on that station, and the last
one was like a replay sportscast. The eight forty five
(12:09):
sports cast was a replay of games from the night before.
Well if the Astros played, we ran highlights of the
game and recapped the game as part of that sports cast,
and on the nights they didn't play, we'd run like
a feature about the player's lifestyle and what they liked
to do, and it was like minute a minute and
a half interview with a player, and so I would
I went over to Houston, not opening day, but a
(12:31):
couple of weeks into opening day, and it was kind
of up close in personal interviews with every player that
I could get in the hour that I had in
the locker room. And I remember I had Jim Jim
Chay's and I had Bagwell and Eric Bell, maybe no.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
The Caminitty, Ken.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Mike camped in, Mike Mike Scott I think was on
one of those and maybe may have left.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
I don't remember, but I had is.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
The last guy I talked to was Kevin Bass, and
Kevin Bass was awesome. I mean I asked him one
questioning what like a minute and a half with it,
and it was like the questions I was asking was, Uh,
what do you do for fun when you're not playing baseball?
What's your favorite what's your favorite baseball story? What are
some of your hobbies? Where'd you go to college, where'd
(13:20):
you meet your wife? You know, just up close, some personal,
random stuff that you could run at any time during
the year. That would be what we call generic, kind
of like to Life of Bradley segment on you exactly.
And Bill Doran is closer to me and Kevin Bass
than you and I are. So Bill Doran, here's this
entire interview that I do with Kevin Bass. And I
know he's listening because I can hear him smirking in
(13:42):
the background and making fun and making faces at Kevin Bass.
So I said to Bill, Hey, do you have two
minutes to do the same thing I just did with Kevin.
He goes sure. I said, Remember, I'm not asking you
baseball questions. It's up close some personal personal stuff, hobbies,
that kind of stuff. Yeah, no problem. So I turned
the tape recorder on. Ask first question, Okay, Bill, on
(14:02):
your day off, what do you do for fun? What
are your hobbies? And he goes off, what the what
the hell are you? And and I can't say what he
said to me, but he just he went nuts in
front of Kevin Bass, in front of Jim Desha's, in
front of a whole bunch of people and k and
I went, Okay, I guess you don't want to do
it after all. And I turned the tape recorder off
and walked away, and I looked at Kevin Bass. He goes, man,
(14:23):
what what you ask him? I said, didn't I just
tell him what I was going to ask him? Well,
he had to go to batting practice. So now he's
already out of the locker room. And even Kevin Bass
apologized on Bill Doren's behalf to me, and I'm like, okay,
I told you what I was going to ask you.
You told me it was okay. Then I asked you
and then and I didn't say the tape. Then you
(14:45):
cussed me out in front of the whole locker room.
So that to me is, you know, you're being a jerk,
and you're and you're grandstanding somebody because you have the opportunity.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
To do so. Probably steroids could have been who knows.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
But so if if the if, no question is off limits,
and then you go in and ask a question and
now it's off limits, turn the tape recorder off and
say listen, are we doing this interview?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Are we not?
Speaker 1 (15:10):
You know, you can give me a BS answer if
you want, but you got to give me an answer
or I'm just gonna leave, and you're you gonna have
somebody else publicize your book, because that's the reason you
invite me in the first place, is so you can
sell some books.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
So anyway, again, I don't.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Care what Bill Belichick does, and Barkley is probably I'll
have a conversation with him to make sure he hasn't
lost his mind. But uh, that's that's that's what's going
on with that story.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
By the way, he has three kids, two sons and
a daughter.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
I'm sure they're saying, make sure you put some into
aren't camp The.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
Daughter, one of the daughter in laws, is apparently already
slammed Jordan Hudson basically kind of like, I don't know
what what father in.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Law is doing, but all right to consending adults, he
can do what he wants, all right.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Travis and Jason Kelsey waited on the Shade or sand
Or as Saga. We'll talk about them next. It's the
Andy Everage Show. On the tickets
