Speaker 1 (00:00):
I think this is going to be a good game,
but I think Miami is the better team, and mainly
because of their defense. I'm not sure that all miskns
score enough points to win the game. As I mentioned
in the beginning of the show today, about an hour
and a half or so ago, I really want Mississippi
to win for a couple of reasons. I really like
Pete Golding. When he was here for the year or
two that he was with Frank Wilson, he was always good,

(00:22):
congenial and great to me.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I didn't really get to know him that well.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
But our conversations were good when we would do our
pregame stuff, and really I thought a good person, a
good human, and a really good defensive mind that those
defenses I think overachieved with some of the players that
he had on him back then. The second part of
that is I don't like the way that college football
has become because it doesn't match the academic calendar. And

(00:48):
I've said, and Jeff Trailor's mentioned this before on our show,
and I totally agree with him. The football season should
start the third Saturday in August. Championship weekend should be
on Thanksgiving weekend. The playoff should start the following weekend.
You take a week off for the Army Navy game
in finals, and you finish up over the next three
weeks and you play the championship game on New Year's Day.

(01:09):
And even I would go to us to a way
to where we extend the signing day to maybe later
in February and give the school six weeks to have
a transfer portal and then to figure out who they're
going to go recruit and who's going to who they
want to get out of high school, and who they
want to get out of the portal, and maybe the
portal is open, say January eighth to the twentieth, and

(01:31):
then you have you have your roster set, and then
you've got two or three weeks to finish up your recruiting,
and signing day becomes maybe the third Wednesday in February
instead of the first. I would get rid of the
December signing period as well.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
It feels insane that the transfer portal's one open window
now is taking place while the playoffs are still going on.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
That makes no sense.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
And I think the backup quarterback for Ole Miss, who
was the starting quarterback, has entered the portal ye. Now,
I don't know if he's still in the old his
team or not, but he's entered the portal and he's
I think he's even made a deal with whoever he's.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Going to next.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
I don't remember where he's going, but I think it's
maybe Missouri. But I think he's already made a decision
to go someplace else to play because and here's the thing,
if he comes if if they don't give the waiver
to Trinidad Chambliss, he's the quarterback again. If they do,
then he's not. And he's not going to wait a
round to figure out whether they do or they don't.

(02:27):
So is it I think it's Simmons.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, Austin Simmons, and I think he has already left
for Missouri. Okay, so now that now, oh no, he
is expected to remain with Ole Mess for the rest
of the player.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Okay, that's good at least if the Chambliss gets hurt
or has to come out for a player too. There's
got somebody in there that kind of knows what they're doing.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
But like you said, okay, so let's say Chamberiss gets hurt,
Austin Simmons comes in, has dominates leads to national and
then Chambliss has his waiver for extra year rejected, right, and.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Now it's already rejected.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Once this is the appeal, it's very likely it probably
gets rejected again.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Because it's the same group that's that he's appealing to
that rejected in the first place.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Now, granted, the only thing that would make me think
they changed their mind is the fact that he's led
a team to the semi finals of the college football
playoffs and they can be like, oh, we can make
more money off this kid next year.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
The only thing that I look at is the fact
that the year is sophomore year. He had either blood
plots and his lungs or couldn't breathe and had to
set out the year till they got that corrected. And
they're like, and they've given waivers for the players for
far worse things than are less things than that over
the years. I mean, they've given waivers to players. There

(03:43):
was one guy that played for Miami a couple of
years ago that was in his ninth year. So I
think you can give Chambliss a sixth year if you
want to. Oh, Frank Haras seven, Yeah, I was about
to say, I.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Mean we've seen We've seen it here in our own backyard.
How hew nice it is to have a six to
seven eight year on the roster.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
It would be something if that played out that way.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
And then Austin Simmons is in Missouri next year although
he just led Ole miss Well, Okay, let me ask
you this, would you be okay if he went back
on that Nio deal if it played out that way?

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Or is he officially? Is he gone to Missouri's Missouri?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
He's gone to Missouri.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
And I'm surprised he's even here because I thought, like
last year and when Penn State got the end of
the tournament, their backup quarterback left before the playoffs started.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
So anyway, Uh, speaking of that, I didn't get this
in the last segment. Rlike Brown, the right Arizona State
running back is going to UT I haven't watched Relake
Brown plays, but I assume he's pretty good or ut
wouldn't want him.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yeah, he's pretty solid. He was a first team All
Big twelve this last year.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
And utsa's top receiver, Devin McEwan.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
It is quite to Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
What a what a snag that is?

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Well, here's the deal. I'm not saying Devon's not good
enough to play Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
I think he is.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
But my question is, did he ask about what his
chances were for playing time because it Carson Lake or
Carson one of the wide receivers has already gone into
the NFL draft. Cardill, Oh, yeah, Cardil. Take cardial Taate. Yeah,
he's already gone to the NFL Draft. The other wide

(05:21):
receiver that started most of the games is coming back,
and I'm just wondering how many snaps the game Devin gets. Now,
my guess is, and I'm just spitballing here, my guess
is he's getting between three hundred thousand and five hundred thousand.
That to me is probably the area where he's getting paid.
But I don't know why schools like Ohio State would

(05:44):
pay that much if they weren't going to start the
guy or at least give him a chance to start.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yeah, I think he's going to absolutely be squarely in
the mix. Having, you know, Jeremiah Smith returning because he's
not draft eligible yet even though he would be a
top five, top three pick, was able to come out,
and Carnel Tate leaving for the draft. Ohio States had
a couple of former five star receivers hit the transfer

(06:10):
portal and leave already. I think that one of the
most recent ones just left yesterday. So you know, they
always have the five star recruits coming in every class,
but they haven't been able to retain them in this
most recent cycle, so I would expect I think they
probably look at McEwan as a plug in, you know,

(06:31):
one year until some of the freshmen are ready or
even you know, maybe he gets a lot of playing
time at the beginning of the year as the freshmen
are getting up to speed, and then he's you know,
more of a situational guy late in the season.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
I'd you know, as much as I hate seeing, you.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Know, UTSA lose a player of that caliber, it does
speak volumes that he's going from UTSA to Ohio.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
State, number one team in the country for a good
trunk of the season.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
It reminds me of when Trey Moore left to go
to Texas.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, absolutely, all right, we got Mike McDonald, Mike McDaniel
getting fired today in Miami.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
What does that do for the Dolphins?

Speaker 1 (07:07):
And also is that the beginning of the end for
Tua that's coming up?

Speaker 2 (07:11):
It's five point thirty on the ticke
