Speaker 1 (00:03):
Are you familiar with the tirade in nineteen eighty three
that then Cubs manager Lee Elia went on, oh no,
go google it tonight. It's none of it is arable
for radio. Is it is full of one word after
another that you can't put on the radio. But the
Cubs started like five and seventeen or something that year,
(00:24):
and the fans bowed them every time they came to
bat or came in the field, and Lee Elia had
a bunch of reporters around him, and he just went
crazy with a lot of language that if you've ever
heard it, or if you google it, you'll understand it's
kind of entertaining if you're into that kind of dark,
twisted humor. I guess, but it is. It is kind
(00:46):
of iconic. I've heard several versions of it. I mean,
it's the same version, but everybody's got it either on
a on a disc or on a cassette tape or
someplace back in the day.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
So you're saying it been right up the alley of
one Jack Buck Huh.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Well, I'm sure Jack got a giggle or two out
of it. Everybody's ever heard it laughed a little bit. Anyway.
The reason I bring it up is Lee Elia passed
away today at the age of eighty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Wow, that's unfortunate. Good long life though, So seven is
it is a good number of years? Yeah? Yeah, I
also saw as well. Oh who was it? The Utah Jazz. Yes,
I was not.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
I did not know he was still alive until I
saw you that note of his passing this past week.
He he coached the Jazz back before Jerry Sloan did yep,
and then was one of their executives in the front
office for a number of years, and a lot of
people considered him a really, really good coach and he
was amazingly funny too. He would he would hold court
(01:52):
at games and he would give you some really good
quotes and they were all humorous and entertaining and quite
quite He.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Also spent one season of the as the coach of
the w NBA Utass Stars with two Z's in ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
That was a team that eventually came to San Antonio
and became the Silver Stars and then just the Stars.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
He was also, like you mentioned, he was the team's
president and general manager. He was part of one of
the potential not one of, but he was part of
the staff that selected not only one, but two Hall
of Famers with John Stockton and the Mailman Carl Malone.
So that's that's you know, ninety three years old. That
(02:39):
that's also a very very good long life.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
They had their meeting today in Dallas. I think for
the March Madness expansion. They're still talking about seventy two
or seventy six teams at the but it will not
take place until at least the well could it could
take a place as early as next year. They're gonna
table this for a bit longer, and they're going to
resolve the issue in the next few months. There's a
(03:03):
lot of people that don't think that they should expand
to seventy two or seventy six, and there's a lot
of others that say yes that they would like to
do that. Listen, it's just more games, and more games
generally means more money. It also means more expenses, but
it generally means that you're going to make up those
expenses with the advertising you sell around it.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
So it's.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I believe it's going to go to at least seventy two,
and I wouldn't be surprised if it's seventy six and
then if it's seventy six, you could have twelve buys
and then not necessarily have the play in games anymore.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, and in you know, thirty or forty years Andy,
it's going to be like one hundred at that point,
there's three hundred and sixty four teams. Just let them
all in. At this point, why not we just have
to move the Masters to May. Yeah, I mean, who
cares about or just the first round.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
But here's the deal, just not just don't play games
on Masters Weekie, and we're taking that week off and
then we'll resume the tournament.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
