Speaker 2 (00:29):
Here we go Thursday, four o'clock.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
That means it's our turn to talk to you and
talk sports San Antonio style for the next three hours.
Thank you for spending your afternoon with us wherever it is.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
That you may be. I'm Andy Everett.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Our audio disseminator and producer of the program is Michael Bartlett.
He took the day off with Dog garretton studio yesterday.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Welcome back. We missed you.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
I mean glad to be missed. I didn't take the
date off, I just left early. Yeah, well you weren't
on the show. That's what matters most. Wow, I appreciate
it that so.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Hey, guess what they released the NBA schedule today and
the Spurs are playing eighty two games.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
What you know what, that's not true.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Potentially eighty three if they win the Emirates Cup.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yes, which we are so on board with.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
So I love not on board on that. We loves
like imrit some fine with the sponsor. They can, they
can sponsor something else that would be fine with me.
I still don't know why we need an end season
tournament because it's football season in December, and we care
slightly less about the in season tournament than we do
about whatever other regular season.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Game is being played in December.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Speaking of football, we are officially arch manning days away, sir, sixteen.
Huh sixteen. I'm ready, Yes we are.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
It's coming quick. It'll be here before you know it,
and we'll look forward to that.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
So we'll talk about the schedule coming out in a
little bit. As you might have guessed, there's eighty two
with the potential of eighty three games. That does not
include the preseason, so we'll get some details on all
of that. It includes the opening night against the Mavericks
and they conclude the season with home games against Dallas
and Denver as well. We'll tell you about the Rodeo
road trip and the games in Austin and all that

(02:07):
good stuff coming up in a bit, all right. I
got to talk about Project Marveled again from a different,
different avenue than I've ever talked about it in the
several weeks and months that we've talked about it. Apparently
the police department thankfully arrested some idiot that suggested that

(02:28):
was basically giving death threats to the mayor. I'm kind
of sick and tired of living in a world where
every time somebody disagrees with someone, whether it's what color
the rainbow is or something serious or some kind of
a political comment, that you're not my friend, I hate you.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
I never want to be around you again. We got
to stop that.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
I listen to I watched the Bill Marshaw pretty regularly
on HBO, and I think he's an hilarious comedian and
there's some things that he says that I agree with
and there's a few things that I don't. But he
got a bunch of flack because he went to the
White House with Kid Rock and had dinner with the President,
and they're like, why did you do that?

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Why are you there?

Speaker 1 (03:09):
It's like, if you don't have a conversation with people,
you're never going to know. It's the old it's the
old adage from you godfather, when Michael Corleone says that
his dad taught him to keep his friends close and
enemy's closer. You always need to know if somebody's got
something that's that you disagree with, as to why they
disagree with you on it. And listen Gina Ortiz Jones,

(03:32):
who's made some very very good things and and arguments
about doing due diligence and all of the things that
she's talked about. But I still think you can do
that in ninety days, and I still think you can
give the city an opportunity to make a decision based
on this if we educate people correctly. But I don't

(03:52):
care who you are, and I don't care what side
of the fence you're on. You cannot be perpetuating a
perpetuating or suggesting violence to anyone. So I'm not even
going to mention the guy's name because it'll give him
publicity that he doesn't deserve. But he's a twenty four
year old guy that was obviously in having a bad

(04:13):
day and made it worse, just dumb people doing dumb things.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
And you know they think because they put it on
the internet with the whole freedom of speech, that well,
I'm putting it on the internet so I can say
what I want without ramifications of the prompt.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
You can't yell fire the graduator.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Exactly, you can't. So I'm thankful that the San Antonio
Police Department and all the officials were able to find
this person and you know, hopefully put him him. It
is a gentleman, so put him behind bars for a while.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, what an idiot man? All right?

Speaker 1 (04:43):
There is a football coach at Northern Illinois, and normally
a football coach at Northern Illinois would not be on
anyone's radar, including ours. But he went on a rant
today talking about college athletes and he had some really
good points, and in the five o'clock hour, we're going
to let you hear what he had to say. His
name is Thomas Hammock. He's the head coach at inn IU.
He's been a coach in the NFL for as assistant

(05:05):
for teams in the past, and we're going to to
let him be kind of rant here for about a
minute and a half to two minutes in the five
o'clock hour, and I have some thoughts on what he said.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I agree with a lot of what he said.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Unfortunately, we live in a money first world. And while
part of what we'll tease here is that you know,
you may get money to transfer someplace else, but are
you getting an education and are you getting to play?
And I think the education thing has been put back
on the back burner for a lot of people. And
I don't think players cared anymore if they play or

(05:39):
not or play less as long as they're getting paid.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
So we'll share that with you. I also have another thought.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Now, in practice it should work, but I don't think
the conferences would like it, especially the SEC and the
Big Ten.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
So we'll get into that conversation.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
I'm also a big fan of listening to Colin Cowhart
and Jason McIntyre before where I come in on most days.
They usually give me some good fodder that we can
turn into a segment or two, and they did not
disappoint me today. So today on my NFL segment, we're
going to talk about the NFC North. I was a
Caleb Williams fan when he was Oh you Caleb, and

(06:17):
I thought USC Caleb had his moments, although he didn't
have a very good team around him. He had some
good wide receivers I guess in one of his seasons,
I'm not remembering which one was better than the other.
I think Lincoln Riley was a good quarterback whisper. But
the problem with Caleb Williams it doesn't necessarily matter how
good he is. I don't think his team is going

(06:37):
to be as good as the others in that division.
So we'll talk about the NFC North and the Caleb
Williams stuff. Then at the end of the show today
they do the tomorrow's headlines today, which they normally do
on Friday, but they did it today because they're not
going to Collin's.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Not going to be there tomorrow. Somebody else is filling
in for him.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Well, he's got like forty five vacation days, so he
has to get them in kind of like I do
before the important stuff starts.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
I mean, so do I I have like sixty vacation days.
But that doesn't mean I'm gonna take them all.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
If you're getting paid what he's getting paid, you're taking
them all. I guarantee you're getting them all in. I
guess so.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
But he also Jason McIntyre is predicting that Kansas City
and Houston will miss the playoffs in favor of Tennessee
and Jacksonville. I don't think Tennessee and Jacksonville will collectively
win twelve games, let alone either team being in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yeah, that you know what?

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (07:34):
So, and like you said, we'll get into it later.
I know we are both on board and think that
the fighting Taylor Swiss are gonna clearly come back down
to earth and not gonna go But they're not gonna.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Go fifteen and two.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
But they could go thirteen and four and still win
the division, or they could go seven to eleven and
not be in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
I don't know if it would go that drastic, but
I think they could very really, very really go like
nine and eight or ten and seven and just be
on the cut.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Well, they were beat up and injured and limped into
the super Bowl last year and then got walloped by
the Eagles. So but that's I think Kansas City is
still going to be a playoff team even if they
don't win the division, and all three of the teams
in the AFC West are better than they have been
in the past, so we'll kind of figure them into

(08:25):
some kind of push for the playoffs as well. I
think the Raiders are still a year or two away,
all right, Jerry Jones says, I was asked, what's holding
up the conversations between you and Micah Parsons to get
a deal done? And he said nothing? So why is
there a deal getting done? So either Jerry Jones is

(08:46):
ready to talk as he says he is, and he's
not and he lying, or Micah Parsons is ready to
talk and.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
He's not or he's lying.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
What other the two are lying because they're not talking
about negotiating a contract. And I don't know how how
much negotiation you actually have to do. Here's what the
last guy got, Here's what I want, uh, And it's
probably fifty cents over what the last guy got, and
Jerry's gonna have to pay it.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
I think what the negotiation winds up being is now
of years, well, not necessarily number of years, because it's
pretty much gonna be hey, four years, five max. But
it's it's the guaranteed money. Now that's always like the
biggest bugaboo when it comes to contract is how much.
Are these players gonna get up front? That way, you know,

(09:31):
they can get their payday, and god forbid, something happens,
they get hurt, Well.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
They get cut in the year four or five.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Yeah, yeah, So it wouldn't be surprising Andy, if actually
both of them are lying, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Well, neither one are picking up the phone. This goes
back to my conversation and ago. When you're on opposite
side of the equation, the only way you're going to
solve them is to talk about it. You can't just
sit there and throw barbs in the media at one
another and hate on each other. That rare, if ever works.
So let's come up with a better plan and let's
see what that can happen. We'll learn the fate of

(10:06):
Rashid Rice later in the year. So he's going to
get to start the year for Kansas City. I have
a thought or so on that I'm kind of embarrassed
to say, to think that oh, you needs this much,
this little amount of money, this desperately. Uh huh, But
O you is about to charge fans a fee if
they want to have an experience of setting in the postgame.

(10:31):
Coach and player press conferences after football games. Let me
give you some information, guys. It's not all that exciting.
It's not worth five hundred bucks. Oh, how the mighty
have fallen in Well, it's a gimmick obviously, because I
can't imagine what five indred bucks is going to cover.

(10:51):
But we'll tell you the details of all of that
coming up here in a little bit too.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Your poor soonery.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Hey, according to Phil Steele, they're going to go ten
and two this year.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
I have no idea which ten games they're going to win,
but which two they're going to lose.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
I mean, we know they're going to lose the second
Saturday in October. We don't know. We don't always know that. Yeah,
they're going to lose that.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
I mean the odds are that that's the case. But hey,
you know, Arch can wake wake up with a headache
and all things are different.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
I mean, that's true. But they still have an incredible
backfield of running backs.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
They have a well, according to Phil Steele, you've got
the second beast quarterback in the nation.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
That's if he decides to not be stupid and.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Not put gambling gambling memos on Instagram. They have the
best running back from the pack whatever it was last
year coming in who they got a great defensive and
offensive line. Listen, if they're better than six and seven,
it's it's a it's a win. But how they're going
to go from six and seven to ten and two
plus whatever they do in the postseason, I'm not holding

(11:52):
my breath. Well, I and I I also find it
kind of hard to believe that Brad Venables being the
head coach will get out of the way of the
offensive staff.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
I hope he does callin and I agree on this.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
I think the best head coaches are generally there's a
lot of coaches out there that once coached offense and
then coach defense, and they're kind of labeled as a
defensive coach. But I think if you're I think Andy
Reid calling plays, I think anybody like Sean McVay, he
calls plays. When you have coaches that understand the offensive
party get they have a little bit more openness to

(12:30):
how they play football. And this is a stereotype for sure,
but it's fourth and one on your own thirty seven,
and there's four minutes to go in the game, and
you need to score, and the offensive coach is going
to look at his defense and go, do you got
me if I go for this? And they go for it,
and the defensive coach says, I'm not putting my defense
in that particular scenario.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
We're punting. And I always like the.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
More aggressive coach because fourth and one is a nervous
down for the offense, but it's also a nervous down
for the defense too.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
So we'll get into some of that coming up.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Let's talk about this per schedule, and we'll get into
the Project Marvel stuff again. And also at the five
o'clock hour, the coach at NIU talking about what he'd
like to see more athletes do.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
It's four thirteen. It's the Andy Everett Show. On the
