Speaker 1 (00:08):
Scotland, Day six, Day six. I believe yes, okay, well
you you better, you know, get your ducks in a row.
It's probably not ducks. What would we call them? What
would they be called if they were in scott Get
your hotgis, Get your hogis in a row. It is
day six, day six. We will have an update later

(00:31):
on on this very radio program. We'll discuss every everything
that happened today on the golf course with Andy Everett
in Scotland. I'm Pat Evans. I'll be here today and
I want to talk about UTSA baseball because tomorrow night,
six o'clock dish Falk Stadium, the NCAA Regional, the Austin

(00:54):
Region gets underway, well gets underway for UTSA. Texas is
playing in the first game against Houston Christian at two o'clock,
six o'clock tomorrow night, UTSA will take on Kansas State.
Kansas State is an interesting, interesting team. They had a
so so year and in between year they were looked

(01:15):
like it was going to be probably a middle of
the pack year for the Big twelve, and they did okay.
They got three pictures. The three pictures that they tried
out there Friday, Saturday, Sunday. All have eras in the
neighborhood of six, which is a lot. They give up

(01:35):
a lot of runs. That's good because UTSA scores a lot,
a whole bunch. You last segment you talked about how
against Rice they were down seven to nothing they managed
to come all the way back and win at fifteen
fifteen seven. There were other games, though, other other things
that happened during the year. I will tell you that

(01:58):
from my perspective, I watched A. I watched a lot
of games B I did some games for ESPN Plus,
which was fun for UTSA, and the resiliency of this
particular team is really quite remarkable. It didn't seem to

(02:19):
matter if they were down seven runs. There were The
first game that I did was against Texas State. They
were they were up big, and then it came down
Texas State score a little here, and a little here,
and a little here, and the next thing you know,
it's like, you know, ten to seven, ten to eight,

(02:40):
and then they put them away in the in the
eighth inning. They just they continue to have impressive at bats,
and I wanted to, you know, single out a couple
of things that I saw. School record forty four wins,
impressive thing. Over forty is usually a guaranteed invite. So

(03:07):
when they the most that they had ever ever had
was thirty eight, thirty nine, thirty eight, they did a
couple of times and just trying to get over that
little hump, they finally did. They did that against Tulane,
I believe.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
I think so again another another school.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Well and tu Lane. Tulane had a rough year, but
then all of a sudden they came alive in in
in the in the American Athletic Conference tournament. But at
the same time uh and UTSA beat beat Tulane like
twenty five to six one night, which is like, I mean,

(03:53):
they score eleven runs in the second and ten runs
in the eighth. I mean, it was phenomenal. Most runs
scored in the American Athletic Conference history six hundred and two.
Needless to say that it's a school record too. They
surpassed the two thousand and eight Roadrunner team. The twenty

(04:17):
eighteen had about two had five hundred and ninety or
four hundred and ninety one runs scored. They passed that
by the players James Tousig, Drew Detloffson, Andrew Stookie, Norris McClure.

(04:37):
They have three freshmen. Jordan by Yeen. You'll hear him
called if you watch or listen to the games, you'll
hear him called Ballin because that's how it's spelled. But
everyone knows if you are from South Texas and he is.
He's from Bernie or as some places say Born. And

(05:00):
it's funny. A couple of guys in the in the
tournament said, well, he's from Born, Texas now Bernie. Jordan
by Yeen, Cayden Miller, Nathan Hodge are all guys who
were all on the All Freshman team, Nathan's older brother Tye.
Courtesy a consolidated high school uh in College station, a

(05:23):
preseason kid guy was voted to be the preseason player
of the Year and then actually became the player of
the year. Mason Lytel, who is one run away from
having the school record one I believe. Uh, there's the
other kid, McClure. McClure is on a twenty two game

(05:47):
hitting streak, which if they get all the way to Omaha,
he has a chance to break the school record, which
would be terrific. We'll we'll vote for that. They got
a great man with a bunch of guys that can hit,
and they got guys that can pitch, and they've already
beaten Texas this year and Houston Christian. Yes, so we'll see.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yeah, it's not you know, when you look at the
forty forty plus wins that they had, it's not just
when you see schools in like this with UTSA, the
like you mentioned, kind of the mid major schools, it's
not just oh, well they beat you know, Sam, Houston State,
or a lot of Division twos or some low end

(06:36):
Division ones. I mean, you've had, like you mentioned, You've
got Texas A and M at the time, who was
the number one ranked team in the country. You have Texas,
which is a very good school predominantly and a good school.
This year. You had Florida Atlantic, you had Tulane, you
had you had.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Rice and also had and Rice had had a very
horrible year. But we also have had TCU in there
and Baylor. And that's the beauty of I think of
our location is we may not be a major, but
we can go play all these all these big, big

(07:13):
schools and improve our record, improve our standing. That's called RPI,
and the RPI this year was I think it slipped
down to twenty four, but that's still better than it's
ever been. And because of that, it's the first time
that UTSA made the field as an at large they

(07:35):
had been They've been to the NCAA Regionals three other times,
and each of those times it was because they won
the conference championship, not the conference title. The conference championship.
The only time they ever won the title was two
thousand and seven and two thousand and eight, and this
year they won the American Athletic So good luck tomorrow night,

(07:56):
six o'clock, dishfalk UTSA, Kansas State wild Cats. It should
be it should be a lot of fun and then
we'll talk about it next week. Yeah yeah, Ticket Sports
time for twenty eight
