Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
I've seen people be for lack of a better word,
fired before unceremoniously. But Chris Paul's departure from and we
didn't get a chance to talk much about this yesterday
when it happened, but his departure from the Clippers, I
heard this comment. I can't remember who said it.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
It maybe with Steven A. Smith.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
This is very Clipper like. And let's let's go back
and look at the two generations of the Clippers. That
Donald Sterling owned Clippers, and we know what kind of
a person he was, and the current ownership Steve Bamber,
which I think is a fan with a bunch of
money spending it on a fantasy basketball team. But this

(00:41):
is what the Clippers do, and it's why they're always
the second team in the in the city. It's why
nobody ever takes them seriously. They've got this brand new building,
they have a team that's not even in the playing
games right now, and they have two players on their roster,
one that very seldom plays and the other one that
is when he does play. I kind of encapsulate what

(01:03):
the Clippers are.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
And not far off. And I mean, you look at
their off season moves where they bring in Chris Paul
and brook Lopez both you know, Chris Paul forty, brook
Lopez pushing forty I think thirty seven, maybe thirty eight,
and both of them are now no longer in the picture.
Brook Lopez out of the rotation. Chris Paul told basically

(01:27):
just go home.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, I'll get into that coming up a little bit.
There's all kinds of Yanna's trade talk going on, and
there's a couple of websites out there that kind of
show up on my Facebook feed from time to time,
and every time I see him like, Okay, that's not right,
and just I just moved past them because they're never right.
It's just somebody that's bored and needs to throw something
on the wall. I cannot imagine that the Spurs would

(01:51):
trade for him, and yet there's a lot of people
that think that they should. Now, I'm not going to
tell Brian right out to do his job. I've never
been a gentleman Dure in my life and don't want
to be one. And if some in some universe he
thinks that's a good idea, all right, then then pull
the trigger and let's see. But I think I think
it is very underestimated and something that is.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
That has gone under the radar.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
How about how good of a job of roster construction
the Spurs have done, not only for this year, but
the way they've staggered these salaries for the next several years,
so that Deer and Fox goes away about the time
Winby starts to make money, and others kind of follow
along that as well. And uh, I don't you know
we mentioned yesterday I think the Clippers between between Kawhi

(02:42):
and Harden and there's one other player on their roster
that collectively eat up about one hundred and forty million
dollars of their salary cap.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
It's probably Bradley Beal's for this season.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yeah, so Bradley Beal out for the year, Kawhi plays
whenever he is, whenever the sun comes up in the.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
East or the west.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
And now you've got Chris Paul not on the team anymore,
who probably had the most common sense of anybody on
the bench. I don't get the way that you and
especially in what was going to be a farewell tour
for him.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
All Right, it's a very odd story.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
I feel like we're going we're getting trickle information coming
out but I think we're going to get more and more.
I mean, believe what you will. But if the fact
that Chris Paul and Tylou weren't even on speaking terms
for the last week before they made this decision, that
is levels of dysfunction that I cannot wait to watch

(03:39):
the thirty for thirty about.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, somebody's writing that script right now for sure. Maybe
Chris Paul all right, Jalen Carter is going to be
out for the Eagles. That the chips are falling in
the right direction for the Cowboys. If they can beat
the Lions tonight, and we'll talk about that game coming
up in a bit, and the Chargers and Eagles play
on Monday night, the Cowboys could be on the precipice

(04:02):
of knocking on the door for the East Crown. I
think there would be a half game out because of
the tie. But that is if you'd have told me
three weeks ago that they were going to be playing
basically for the division lead if they win and Philadelphia loses,
I would have wondered what planet you were on. But
this is for real, and I think the Cowboys have

(04:24):
a great chance of beating the Lions as beat up
as their football team is. And I don't think enough
has been said about the fact that Ben Johnson isn't
calling plays. You know, a lot of times we just
think coaches can be plugged in and it's kind of
plug and play. And I think it's been well documented
that Jared Goff has been a better Lion than he
was better with the Rams or in his past. But

(04:46):
when you have the quarterback whisper or the guy that
says something that you just you know, they may be
the same plays, but it may be a different voice.
It's just weird to hear that. And I see the
Lions not being as consistent as they have been the
last couple of years with Ben Johnson now doing the
whispering in Caleb Williams is year.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah, I'm trying not to get too far ahead of
myself in terms of Cowboys future prospects the rest of this.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Year, as I always let you down.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Well, that's that's been the MO for thirty years now,
for the majority of my lifetime.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
But the Jalen Carter injury.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
That truly impacts that game, That opens up a lot
less Chargers to run and pass because he's a good
he's good at at clogging up the middle both ways.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, when Jalen Carter's active and playing in the game
for Eagles, they're a top ten, top five defense. When
he's not on the field, you flip that they're bottom ten.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
We'll also talk about the Texas and Chiefs coming up
a little bit. This is a one in one out.
I think whoever wins this game is still alive for
a playoff spot, that the Texans maybe even for the
division crown.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
The Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
It's went out or go home, and I honestly think
it would be in the Chiefs best interest to just
let this season go away. Even if they get to
the playoffs. I can't see them winning very many games,
and I don't think they're far off from being back
atop the West next year if they can get the
right players on offense to replace the aging players that

(06:16):
they have and the defense. To me, from what the
games I've seen, Cannas play is good enough, and I
think Mahomes is good enough, but I want to see
a little bit better running back and I want to
see a little bit more of a If Rashi Rice
could be your number two instead of your number one,
and you can draft a number one wide receiver and
or find somebody to replace Kelsey.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
That's pretty good stuff right there.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Yeah, the only reason I would think, I mean the
only reason the Chiefs. First of all, when you have
Patrick Mahomes, you have a chance to beat anybody in
a playoff game. But secondly, you know, the top three
seeds in the AFC this year are not your normal
Ravens Bills waiting for the Steelers or waiting for the
Chiefs to stumble. Your top three are Patriots, Broncos, Jaguars,

(07:00):
all with unproven quarterbacks in playoff game. So I would
still if the Chiefs can get in, even as a
seven seed, which is where the Bills are right now,
I think that AFC playoff bracket is going to be
so unpredictable. Who's to say they wouldn't be the betting
favorite if they can just get in, all right?

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Has anybody ever botched a coaching a coaching search, and
a direction of your team worse than Penn State has?

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Oh Man, they're running out of options fast.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
And the guy that's their interim coach is being accorded
by Yukon and another school to take over there if
Penn State doesn't make him the permanent coach, and the
Penn State fans don't want him to be the permanent
coach because he's not enough of a sizzle guy. And
they've already missed the first period of a signing period
which they got no one and the and the portal

(07:50):
opens up in the month and they don't have anybody
to check that out, and nobody knows who's driving the ship.
It is a mess for a really good, proud program.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Well, we know Unt didn't pick Jason Garrett, but Penn
State Beaver Valley, can I interest you in former Cowboys
coach Jason Garrett because that might be your best option
right now?

Speaker 1 (08:11):
It might be a good choice.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Although I don't know that Jason Garrett wants to move
away from Dallas to Happy Valley. But and list, we
talked about this a little bit yesterday. When you get
rid of a coach, be careful what happens. And I
understand that Penn State was upset with the losses they
had this year, and they've been upset with his track record.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Against top twenty teams and big games. James S.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Franklin was four and whatever against teams that were in
the top twenty five or or big games that would
get you into the next round of the NCAA Tournament,
the College Football Playoff. But in reality of all of this,
Penn State was a good program. And always say be
careful and be very cautious of what happens when you

(08:56):
fire a coach, because when you fire a coach may
not end up with somebody that's any better, or a
lot of times you've you wind up with somebody that's
way worse.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, I mean this is again, whoever ends up taking
that job at Penn State. Now, not only are you
not only do you know your basically fifth choice on
their list, but you're also so far behind the eight
ball now with you know, already missing signing day and
you're not talking to potential transfers. Now it the college

(09:30):
football moves faster than it ever has, and Penn State
might find themselves back in that malaise, you know, late
nineties Penn State where eight and four was a banner
year there.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
For a decade.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
All right, Vanderbilt tried to schedule a thirteenth game.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
What the hell is up? What is that? Okay, So
here's the deal on this. Now.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Apparently the NCAA said stop doing this because the only
school that you can play. You can schedule thirteen games
if if one of those games is played in Hawaii
or Alaska, and Alaska doesn't have a Division one team.
Hawaii happens to be a pretty decent team this year.
I think they're going to go to a bowl game,

(10:12):
but they would have to play a game in Hawaii
and win, and win big. Because what Penn State was
trying to do was to make their case that they
should be the twelfth team or the eleventh team in
the tournament, and logistically it didn't work out, and they
did it so late in the season that there was
no way that those teams were going to do that

(10:34):
just to help out Vanderbilt. It wasn't going to help
Hawaii to play Vanderbilt. It was actually going to hurt
them because if they were six and seven and I
don't even know, I don't know how many games Hawaii
you want to have, it.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Looked, but they were pretty decent.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
I know they're both eligible, but I don't know if
they won six games or seven or eight or whatever.
But okay, we're going to do you a solid and
have you come to Hawaii and let you beat us
by thirty so the committee wants to put another SEC.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Team in the league.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
I mean that's just being a little bit full of
yourself for a university that has nothing to stand.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
On to ever be full of itself.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yeah, I mean besides academics and baseball. I just I
don't I don't understand how playing University of Alaska Anchorage
or that they don't buy Yeah, running Rainbows the Rainbow
Warriors is gonna get you anywhere.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
And they play like in some dump high school stadium
in Honolulu. Now they don't even have the Aloha Ball anymore.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
I think they're building a new stadium. It's a transition.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Period for twenty five year transition period.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Look, the June Jones era will always be fonned and
held highly in my memory.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
All Right, Tiger's event and the Bahamas is underway, Tiger
not playing, and we'll talk about all of that coming
up and much more. Let's get into the Spurs win
last night in Orlando and what's up next for them.
It's four thirteen. It's the Andy Everage Show. On the
