Speaker 1 (00:13):
I'm Pat Evans along with Michael Bartlett. We're backtrack here
for a second, you know, because we got the phone
numbers and got off of Aaron Rodgers. I just don't
think that Pittsburgh can again. They've had three coaches yep,
and forever that would be Chuck Noll, Bill Cower and

(00:37):
Mike Tomlin. Yep. In fifty years something like that. Longer
than that, isn't it? Well not much longer, but I'm
fifty years. I keep forgetting it. Fifty years ago, in
nineteen seventy five, s a little bit before that. Yeah,
so it's fifty plus years. They've had three coaches, They've
had one family that's owned owned it, you know, the

(01:01):
Rooney family. I don't think they want that kind of drama. Well,
I mean again, other than Terry Bradshaw, Terry Hanratty, you know. Okay,
and then we move on to the next part. You know,
how are they gonna honor Rocky Blyer? Rocky Blyer was

(01:21):
the other half back with Franco Harris. Oh okay, Rocky
Blyer was a Vietnam War veteran. Oh wow, wait you
feel bad now? Yeah? Wow, That's what I'm here for.
I'm here for the old stuff. I just Pittsburgh has.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
At this point, it seems like they've done everything they
possibly can or could to appease Aaron Rodgers. It's hey,
we'll give you time. We'll let you wait until after
the draft, because who's to say that maybe they would
have decided to take like a Jackson Darter or somebody,
you know, to take a quarterback right at that point,

(02:02):
and they didn't do that. They took Will Howard in
like the fifth round, who is going to be a
career backup. So that's not a threat. Will Howard came
from the Ohio state and originally Kansas state.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Well, and you can and you can say that you
at this point that he can be a backup forever.
But yeah, you know, stranger things have happened. True. All
he's got to do is be better than Mason Rudolph.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah at this point, which I don't even know if
he can do that, to be honest.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Well, we'll we'll see, but we'll see, we'll see.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
But so they only did that, and then it was Okay,
we're going to give you plenty of time. We're not
going to rush you, We're not going to give you
a timetable.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
We're not going to.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Say, hey, you need to be here by this day.
And like you mentioned, the Steelers notoriously are an organization
that doesn't really deal with drama for the most part,
our head cases for the most part.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
I also don't think that they deal with the media
to say so, they aren't out there talking about well,
you know, we're sitting here waiting. I think everyone has
kind of the narrative has come out. Well, I guess
they're waiting. Yeah, you know, they they moved on for
all we know. He may they may have told Aaron thanks,

(03:26):
we're cool.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Yeah, but they moved on from George Pickens, traded him
to the Cowboys. As you know, people saying, well George
Pickens a little bit of a problem or head case
a little bit, and you know again, you know Le'Veon
Bell was disgruntled, sat out a whole year and that
didn't work out well for him.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Antonio Brown, whether.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
It's head issues because of playing football, I don't know,
but they decided to say, hey, you know what, you're
not worth the head case anymore, will move on from you.
Obviously there was the Big Ben situation, but not that
this excuses him but because he had won a couple
of Super Bowls for the organization, they're like, Okay, we'll

(04:09):
give you a.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Little bit of a leeway. At the time, I think
he had only won one, but I don't think that,
you know. Again, Yeah, when when people are tried in
the court of public opinion, it turns out a particular way,
and I don't have a dog in that fight. Yeah,
so I don't care one way or the other. I mean,
obviously if it was if it was something that he did, yes,

(04:33):
I mean I have a problem with other athletes, yeah
that that has happened with.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, but it just the way that that organization represents
itself is they clearly just they don't like to deal
with or they don't put up with shenanigans. You know,
they don't put up with any of that. They're like, hey,
you can, well, we'll load up on defense again and
we'll we'll win that way and score seventeen points and
be happy about it.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well, I think it. It's also one of those those
things they are they are a franchise, and and you
there's enough franchises like this that there there's nobody here
who's bigger than the franchise. Yeah, the franchise is it.
You know, the franchise may extend to the coach Mike Tomlin,

(05:25):
who I don't think again, if there's anybody if he
was teaching math, he would be the kind of teacher
you come in, you sit down, you pay attention or else. Yeah,
I mean, there's no funny business with with Mike Tomlin.
I also but I also think that he's a good

(05:47):
enough human being to open up to those inside that circle,
to to to stand and fight for someone who who
may or may not be misperceived by the outside world. Okay,
I mean I think that that's you know, and and

(06:09):
those kinds of of franchises are few and far between,
you know. I mean the Cowboys are Jerry Jones and
the Cowboys. Now, whether that's right or wrong, it doesn't
generally extend a whole lot further down than that. There's

(06:31):
there's things that go on that Jerry talks about, and
they go through people, you know. I mean, there's a
do you know what a rolodex is? Yes? Sorry, I'm
not that young, pat to be honest, but I mean
they've got I got I got it. I got yellow

(06:51):
pages in the mail, the other day, I didn't know
what they did, and it was in my mailbox and
I'm looking at it going, what the heck, why does
anybody need this anymore? And there's still people who sell
ads in it anyway. But there's plenty that Jerry talks
about that goes on in cowboys world, in Cowboys Land

(07:13):
that gives you an impression of one way or the other.
And then there are those players who get to talk
and speak out loud. Pittsburgh doesn't have anybody like that. Yeah,
they're not allowed to do that. And it's not that
they're not allowed, they just don't do that. Yeah, they
just don't. It's it's not something that's new. England used
to be that way.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, it's just not something I guess that's not necessarily
embraced is the wrong word to say, but I guess
uh pursued, Yeah, to a certain extent. You know, that's
just Hey, we're come in, we're you know, steel City
where lunch pail guys. We come in, we clock in
at eight o'clock and we're out of here by six
kind of a thing. And that's the that's the way

(07:53):
that the Steelers have always run their organization with Aaron Rodgers. I, honestly,
Pat just feel like it's a guy that he's trying
to hold on, hold on and hold out as long
as he can to find the perfect spot for him,
which at this point there is no there really is.
I mean, you could say Pittsburgh is a quote somewhat

(08:15):
and I put hes in air quotes perfect spot. But
he's forty forty one, He's gonna be forty one years old,
he's forty two, many forty two, something like that, coming
off of a year removed from Achilles surgery. It's like, dude,
sometimes you just gotta let go and understand it's your time.

(08:36):
But I think he's just he's that guy that just
wants to hold on for as long as he can,
but just doesn't realize that he can't say goodbye.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
I'm not sure the next time that I'm going to
be back, don't worry. Aaron Rodgers want to have signed by then, okay, okay,
just want to make sure a couple of little things
just to Jay. Riley is texting me, and I was
very remiss the last time I was here. I did
not extend any well wishes to Jay, who has had

(09:09):
a little health episode. Man, and I'm hoping that he's okay,
all right, and that he wanted us to let us
put that out there. Well, I just I wanted. I
felt it was important to let the world know that
I was thinking about him. And I'm hoping he's okay.
Here's your colleague. I can't wait to see Andy Everett

(09:29):
and he'll be back Thursday, Thursday, Thursday in this very chair,
two days from two days he will be in that
very chur days from now. I still haven't decided whether
I'm going to LA or not, barring any setbacks. If
I am going to LA, look for us in the
front row, because we will. We will one hundred and
seventy a pop. I'm not sure. I'm just not sure.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Write it off as a as a businesses expense. Oh, definitely,
Pat Evans production scouting. I'm scouting for next year. And please,
on Friday, here's what I'll do. I'll let me do
let me do a phone in with Andy and and
that way that that tax deduction will be fulfilled.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Okay, all right, we'll do that Friday. We'll do that.
Wrap up the whole thing here in just a moment.
