Speaker 1 (00:04):
Final episode of the year Here on Ticket.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Seven sixty, I am your host for the day, Sam
Freeze filling in for Andy along with Shane and double T.
Here we got got Mark Vandermere coming up here in
the next segment. Gonna talk Texans eight game win streak, Now,
is that right?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Double T?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
That is correct? They are at eight wins up to
It should.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Have been more because they because they should have lost
that game to uh I was right before the wind streak,
right before San Francisco.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Who is that who they lose to? It was by
three points Broncos. They lost to Denver. It was Denver.
They should have beat Denver.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Sure it's the guy.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Of course, the kid wearing the tank Dell Jersey knows
exactly what game you're talking about. Just realized as you
said that that was a tank del Jersey. Yeah, I
noticed that as soon as I walked in. Double T's
jersey game is unmatched. It's good to have a Jersey
guy out here again.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
He has even Jackson one time.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
I've mentioned it before, the great Johnny de la Rossa
most of y'all know, is dingus. He was his jersey game.
But the two of y'all could have a could have
a fair competition between who's got the most abstract, obscure jerseys.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
What was his most random jersey? What was his most
random one?

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Well, he was big on NBA jerseys.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Okay, the most random one though, I'd have to dig through,
I have to think about it. His was more like
nineties NBA jerseys, which was spectacular.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
So don't see what's the most random off the wall
jersey because you have a lot.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
What's the most random off the wall jersey you have
in your collection?

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Okay, depending on sport?

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Okay, so NFL probably, Oh Giants, Victor Cruiz, Okay, MLB Diamondbacks,
Luke Weaver.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Luke Weaver jersey.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
Yeah, it's a team issue game born.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Is it still the purple and green looked o or No,
it's it's the it's it's dark gray and teal. Okay.
And then NBA. Oh man, that's a tough one. I
like my Kings to Marcus Cousins a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
He has his sports. He has one for different sports.
Oh you got to if you love Jerzy guy. Yeah,
long lived Boogey Cousins. Nothing will beat that. Luke Weaver, though,
that's the most obscucci I've heard in a long time.
We're gonna ask Mark VanderMeer here in the next segment,
of course, about guided line of Texans questions for him,

(02:21):
as well as some generic Christmas.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Hey, how was your Christmas?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Hope it went well, but I should say I actually
had for the first time. I mentioned it at the
top of the show before we get into football talk here.
I was able to spend a lot of time back home.
And when I tell people, I was raised by Hillbillies,
and I mean that in the most affectionate way possible,

(02:48):
the Billies of the Hill.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
That's correct.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
So tell me which one of these Christmas gifts kind
of stands out is different from the rest. These were
my top three Christmas gifts, right all right? I got
gift card for Regal Cinema so I can get my
movie theater popcorn for all the college.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Oh very nice, I got one. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Are you embracing the movie theater popcorn? Well?

Speaker 4 (03:11):
I am. Now I want to try that, but it
feels like every time I leave work, I just I
have to get my wife and my daughter.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Like come home, and I'm like, okay, fine, I'm telling you.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
The movie theater popcorn, especially with all of the football
we have over.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
The next few weeks.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Such a good idea.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Second World Cup tickets.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
I'm gonna get to go see England versus Croatia. Jerry
World you got next set's dope? Yeah, that one. That
one's pretty pretty solid, pretty solid. And then the one
that I am always most proud of every year brought
back another mason jar of shine that.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Is literally nice.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
That's the level of hillbilly that raised the filtered buddy.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
It's uh, I've already given you too many details. It's
family recipe. Don't ask any questions.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
The first time, the first time, I brought the room
mate back for the holidays to introduce her to my family. Basically, yep,
I told her. I was like, listen, there's gonna be
a mason jar passed around the table. You don't have
to take any no one will think lesser of you.
It's not a test. Just if you don't want any

(04:18):
pass it on down. And she just looked at me like,
oh yeah, OK, sure, how much did she I'm sure
that's well a good time was half by all shame
And that was when I knew she was a keeper.
So uh yeah, we'll ask Mark VanderMeer if he got
any moonshine for Christmas.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
I am unashamed to say this. I've tried. I am
not a moonshine person. That's okay, that's just that.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Just ain't that. It ain't my go I prefer dark liquor.
I'm a dark liquer kind of guy.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, moonshine's got to be in your blood early. It's
an acquired taste for sure.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Uh let's get into a little football talk here, because
we're going to talk in depth more about the college
football matchups we have. But I wanted to start with
one here, the one we're going to see tomorrow night,
Ohio State.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Miami up in the Cotton Bowl. I know all the Aggie.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Fans are disappointed they're not making the trip up to
Dallas tomorrow night to watch A and M playing this game,
but these two teams gave us arguably the greatest game
of the BCS era, and maybe even better than the
game itself, was the intro when these two teams squared

(05:30):
off back in two thousand and two.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
As day merges in tonight along the Sonoran Desert in Arizona,
the second sun almost daily renders out the complete color spectrum,
the giant Swarro cactus standing as a setine on the horizon.
This is the game for the championship for college football,
and this is the Circuit City BCS trophy that goes

(05:53):
home with the winner very carefully. And this is where
the Bold Championship Series started four years ago in the
Torstidos yestervo did I the defending thing champion Mini Hurricanes
and the Ohio Snake fuck Eyes the only undefeated teams
and Division One college football after the two thousand and

(06:14):
two season.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Just so great.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
The classic Keith Jackson intros Circuit City. Yeah, that certainly
jumps out at you too.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
You know, I realized we have to test double t on,
Like what all references he picked up out of that,
because you were born in twousand and two, right t
thousand and one, thousand and two.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
I was born chousn three, Okay, so he might he
might not know. Do you know what Circuit City was?
Circuit City? Yeah? Do you know what that was? Is
it a movie? Oh? My god?

Speaker 5 (06:45):
They were.

Speaker 6 (06:45):
They were the sponsor of the.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Game the year you were Do you know what the
BCS was?

Speaker 3 (06:53):
I do?

Speaker 6 (06:53):
Okay, all right, that just started the movie Keith Jackson
is he was here, was like, I okay, ship, all right? Yeah,
So that game would end up being Miami was.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Looking for their thirty thirty thirty straight wins something like that,
because there was eight I think, isn't that.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Many because they were one away from the record, but
then they were, but that was the one that care.
Then Oklahoma's or some older team have like the records.
It's obscure. It's like from the forties or something like that.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yeah, the Miami was going for their second straight national title.
Right Ohio State coming in as the massive underdog ends
up getting the upset in double overtimes. It was a
great game, and I mean the best game I think,
no question of the BCS.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
More than the Texas us C and O six, because
that's some people think that's the greatest college game of
all time.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Regardless.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, I guess that was still BCS, wasn't I feel
like those two at least in the last like twenty
five thirty years of college football, those two, especially given
the teams, the game itself, the circumstances might.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Be one and two however you want to organize it.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
I still look back in that game and that and
that phantom pass interference should have won Miami's championship. That's right,
we all, we all saw it. Ohio State knows they
still that championship. And what's crazy is like after that,
like you saw the progressive like decline of the U,
and I maybe I'm wrong, I feel like the U
really ended for me when they had that fight against
Forlida International after that field goal.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Yeah, that was probably where it officially ended. But this
is where the descent started, right.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
And it's funny now looking at the game tomorrow night,
it's almost a exact inverse of what it was back
in two o three, where now Ohio State is the
defending champ.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Uh, they're double digit favorites.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Like Miami was back in that national championship matchup, not
quite as long as a win streak.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
That Miami team was insane that three those three years
of the U returning, that was like that was some
of my favorite coafeortaball teams.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Even if I wasn't a U fan, I loved those
U teams.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
And it's you know, it's funny now that we look at,
you know, teams like No Offense Tech and Indiana being
at the upper echelon of college football. You know, back then,
the argument, as stupid as it is of whether a
college team can beat the worst NFL team started there.
I would have put Miami. I would have given them

(09:16):
a chance in that game, some of those Miami rosters.
Even though the USC team or the Texas team back then,
or USC particularly, they had more NFL players on that.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Worst NFL team in that era was the Lions, like
year in, year out, like like the post Barry Sanders,
pre Matt Stafford Lions were terrible.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Poor Jolly Harrington.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
That Danie Rolowski, your guy, Dan, I am still a
belief there's no NFL team that couldn't be a college team.
But like for people that didn't see a double tea,
this is for you, by the way, people who never
saw any version of the U, whether it was the eighties,
the nineties, or even in the early two thousands, those
U teams they were just different. They were physical and
they and they were like they were abusive. They wanted

(09:54):
to didn't want to win. They wanted to hurt you.
They don't care what the score was at the end.
They just wanted to beat you down. And that was
one of the times I'm like, Okay, maybe this you
team could have beaten.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
That Lions team. Those are some bad Lions teams.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Yeah, really bad. Thinking about the game tomorrow night. You know,
Ohio State, it doesn't have a win streat because they
lost to Indiana right in the Big Ten Championship game,
coming off their first loss of the season.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Their schedule was kind of underwhelming.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
As I was about to say, it's an Ohio State
team that I really feel like we don't actually know
how good they are.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Their biggest challenges this year were Texas, but that was
really more defensively, and then Michigan put on a bit
of a challenge, but not as much. And obviously we
saw the under the underlying what was what was going
on there? And but you know, beyond that, their best
win is is actually Illinois, and Illinois don't fe This
is not after they had a strong seven to one

(10:45):
start or I think it was like five and one start.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
They're three and three in their last six games. Yeah,
they've absolutely crumbled. As we're watching them take on Tennessee
now in a bowl game, I uh, it feels like
it's a nice this game being tomorrow night, outside of
the trip header on New Year's Day. It's a nice
appetizer for what we're gonna see come New Year's Day.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Because I do I do think Miami with a.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Couple of weapons, with the with the Tony kid, the
freshman receiver. We saw them, you know, do just enough
to get by A and M. Yeah, it wouldn't surprise
me if this is a very similar game with Ohio State,
where it's probably potentially both teams under twenty points and
it's a weird one place swing everything kind of deal.

(11:36):
But definitely looking forward to the quarterfinals starting tomorrow night.
We'll talk more college football in the second half of
the hour here, but let's not get behind the clock
because we have joined joining us. Next the voice of
the Texans, Mark VanderMeer. Let's see how his Christmas was
