Speaker 1 (00:03):
I'm looking forward to my big Have you ever been
checked out and you're just ready for vacation?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yes, that is how I am right now.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
I'm telling you, I'm getting text messages and people are like, okay,
sounded like the SEC commissioner up there.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, speaking of the SEC.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
You know, so obviously they're meetings that started in Destin, Florida.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
One of the.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Major issues for SEC college football coaches. What do you
think one of the major issues is Mike.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
For SEC coaches, SCC coaches, Yes, SEC coaches.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I would say transfer portal and probably you're cheating. No,
I'm just going off the top of my head. I
would say, I mean, but that's more than just the SEC.
But I would say transfer portal and probably college football
playoffs because that's that's what everybody came Those.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Are the two hot topics, right, the transfer portal being
one because Kirby Smartest said, you know, they've got to
make this thing clearer, you know, and have clarity on
this whole transfer portal because again with college football and
college in general, if you're not happy, you just transfer.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
At the end of the day, you just transfer, right.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I know that you guys were discussing it last week,
a little bit of the transfer and you know where
you go and if you don't get noticed, you're gonna
go play here and you're gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Go do that. I can tell you this.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
There's a lot of social media interaction with transfer portals
and knowing where to go and where to be hit.
You know, did you see the little I think it
was Georgia's former quarterback Carson Beck. Yeah, he said something
about Archie Manny.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Did you see what he said? I didn't because he's irrelevant.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah, he said, oh, you're so good, but you played
behind a seventh rounder.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Wow, taking a little shot. Okay, why does he have
to take a shot like that? But me in Miami? Now, yeah,
he's at Miami.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
The only reason that he's there because I believe he
is or originally was dating one of the Cavender twins.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Okay, so whatever.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah, like, dude, you you were a first round quarterback
great as well, so and yeah you started to suck.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
I don't think the transfer portal is the problem.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
I think the biggest problem is obviously this nil money.
It just eventually it was going to make this college
sport into a professional sport.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Well don't I don't necessarily agree that it's I agree
with you that I don't blame the transfer portal and
I don't blame the NIL. What I do blame are
the people that are backing it, behind it because it's
the well, we're just going to be the pay for
play kind of a thing. Because, again Andy has said
all the time, originally the reason NIL was created is

(02:39):
so these particular college athletes can market and benefit off
of their likeness. I forget the guy that he always
brings up, but the guy in the eighties or nineties
or whatever that had a T shirt company that he
was literally just making T shirts, right and he was
benefiting himself. But because he was a college athlete, it was, oh, well,

(02:59):
that's unfair because the only reason you're making money is
because people know who you are for playing basketball or
whatever sport.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
It was, well, it was kind of like when back
in the day with you know, when Longhorn fans were
wearing the number ten jersey, who were they representing? That
was Vince Yeah it was Vince Young, righte and Baker
Mayfield a lot of OU jerseys that.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Were number six.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yep, you couldn't put his name back there, you know,
but eventually that's where it kind of I get it right, Like, oh,
you're you're making money off of me. You know, the
whole johnny Man's You ever see that on Netflix?

Speaker 2 (03:34):
I don't give that any time of day because here's
the thing about him.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
He might be one of the dumbest guys around, right,
but during that time he was probably one of the
smartest guys around making money. Where you know, it was like, dude,
you're using me for likeness because A and M jerseys.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
What number were they wearing? Number two? Right?

Speaker 1 (03:57):
And that's the thing is like this name and likeness,
I get it right, But it's also ruining the sport.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
It's ruining traditions.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
You don't have players who go to like I see
players that commit, right, They're all there are five star
recruit they're committing to OU And I'm like in my head,
I'm like, give them a year. They're gonna go to Florida. Yeah,
they're gonna transfer, They're gonna go home there, you know
stuff like that. Now, this is supposed to benefit the
smaller schools, in my opinion, right to keep players playing

(04:26):
such as at Utsa or UIW. But again, look at
the cam Ward's story, Right, cam Ward starts not he
he wasn't even.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Looked at zero stars, right, and.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
He goes to uiw and people are like, man, you
see this kid. And then he goes to Washington State,
he follows the coach, and then he ends up at
Miami and now he's the number one pick in the
NFL draft, you know. And so for kids like him,
I mean, I think he was in school for what
five six.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Years somewhere around that, something like that, five I think.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
And then the Denver quarterback, what's his name, bo Nix?
How many years was he in? Ten years?

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Six something like that? He went to Oregon, he went
to started started at Auburn, started at Auburn, went to Oregon.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yes, And then of course you have Dylan Gabriel who
started at Central Florida, goes to oh you ends up
at Oregon.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
So there's three schools here.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
So you get these kids to come in and they're
playing in five different schools before they even get to
the draft. Now they get to kind of hold off now, right,
because that's what they do. It's like, it's not really
going to be a quarterback class this year.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
I'm gonna go one more year. In college. You know, college,
I don't know. College sports to me is just different.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
I feel like it's changed, and I don't like the
change that I'm seeing.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
But that's the thing that I at least like on
a positive aspect. For if a particular player doesn't think, hey,
you know, I don't know if this year is going
to be a good year, especially if we look at
it from the basketball perspective. We're so I've had this
conversation before with a colleague of mine. We're so quick

(06:04):
on the draw of you know, college basketball players one
and done, and now with the availability of nil, it's
why do we need to rush these eighteen year old
nineteen year old.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Kids out so quick?

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Because now you can make money, stay an extra year,
develop a little.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Bit more, and also agree mature a little bit.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Yeah, that's the big thing too with getting a degree,
because we've seen in the blink of an eye, whether
you're the number one overall pick or last pick, your
your college, your professional career can end with one injury.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
But look at dj Ugulele. I know that's how you
say it is last name, That's how Andy and I
say it. I love it. Dude, went to what six
schools in six years. How you can't tell me that
that kid's got a degree. If anything he's got, he's
got an associates. True. If that, well they lose. It

(07:00):
just depends.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
You know, these athletes now, they're so fine tune that,
you know, college to go to class. Do they go
to class? We don't know if they do. They you know,
it doesn't matter, right because they're not there for school.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
They're there to.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Play football, get recognized, play whatever sport they want to
and get recognized. And you know, and that's just what
it is. And that just sounds like I'm just a
grumpy old man about it.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
I guess I.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Think that, like my daughters would tell me, shut up
and deal, which means deal with it.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
I think they tell me that a lot it happens.
Speaking of a.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Shut up and deal, We've got some news on the
gymnastics side of sports. That's all next on the Andy
