Speaker 1 (00:05):
Here's my hopefully less than thirty seconds on the Cavaliers
and the Heat. The Cavaliers won sixty four games, the
Heat won thirty seven. They were the tenth seed going
into the playoffs. There should not have been a playing game.
They're not very good, they're not worthy of playing a
team like the Cavaliers, and they shouldn't have been there.
Even the eighth seed would have probably lost in four games.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
The tenth seed would have as well.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
And now pat Riley and Eric Spolster, great managers and
great coaches, can go figure out if they can find
some support for hero and out of bio, and then
they'll be good again. Other than that, they're too old
and they're they're just not good enough right now.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Got anything else to add to that.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
No, pretty much it not enough firepower and ties. Cleveland
Cavaliers are really really good basketball team.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
And they're likely going to see they got Indiana. I
think Indiana's going to beat Milwaukee, and we'll talk about
what happens if that happens a little bit. But I
think Indiana is We'll give them a little bit of trouble.
But I still think the Cavaliers are going to win
the East all right, let's talk about the other game though.
That was thrilling and what basketball is all about. Playoff
(01:10):
NBA Basketball Alpha and shun Gun is an amazing player.
I think Aman Thompson is starting to come into his own.
Fred van Fleet was played pretty well except for the
last series or two of the game, the last couple
of plays of the game. The Rockets are going to
be a really good basketball team for years to come
if they keep that core together.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I still think they need to add a piece. Well.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
When we talk about trades and superstars coming there, they
will obviously have to give up something to get it.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
But I don't know that.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
I don't think the Rockets are going to be in
the in the Durant Giannis Superstar sweepstakes because if you
look at their payroll, they only have one player that
makes any money, and that's Van Fleet.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
I think he makes forty million.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Everybody else is under twenty or under fifteen, and you
just don't have an players. You'd have to give up
the whole team to get that. So when we talk
about the Bucks potentially trading on Us or Phoenix potentially
trading Durant and destinations where they would go, you have
to figure out the salaries to be matched, and these
younger teams don't have the capital to be able to
(02:17):
do that I mentioned last week, And because and only,
and the only reason I did this exercise is because
I think there's a there's a lot of Facebook memes
with the Honus and a Spurs uniform, and I'm sure
he'd love to play with Wimby and all that kind
of stuff, but there's just they played the same position.
I even saw one meme today that had Wemby, Durant
(02:37):
and Yannis all in the same in a Spurs uniform. Like, Okay,
that's a hundred million plus in contracts with two players,
and that doesn't include maxing out Wimby whenever his time comes.
Plus you've got Deer and Fox and everybody else that's
making the money that they're making.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
The only way that the trade works, what.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
The current roster of the Spurs have is to trade
Keldon Johnson and Devin Vessel. And I think that's giving
up too much because you also have to give up
a ton of what you have a ton of, and
that is draft capital. I don't know where Yannis ends up,
but it's really hard to trade a fifty million dollar
player when you're trying to get expiring contracts and players
(03:19):
who have one in two year deals that will expire
by the time you're good again. And we'll talk more
about the Buck situation coming up. But anyway, I just
think that the Rockets are going to be better in
the next couple of years. I'm going to preface it
by this, however, and there's a difference. I think they
are the Sacramento Kings version of a couple of years ago.
(03:40):
Two years ago, the Kings were the third seed, played
great in the playoffs, and I think lost to the Lakers.
Whoever it was late in the maybe Denver at some
point down in the latter part of the series. I
think the Rockets are a very young, good team, just
like that, and I mentioned the players that are part
(04:00):
of that good Rockets team, but experience matters and situations
like this, and sometimes you don't know how to handle
yourself when the game is not called like it is
in the regular season. I heard Collins say today that
the regular season is about putting buds in the seats
and that the playoffs are about getting fans to watch
it on TV.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Well, I think that's wrong. I would like to see.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
I know we can't play as physical basketball for eighty
two games as we do for a seven game series
in the playoffs. The players would be beat up and
tired and injured before the All Star break, if not
before Christmas. So they have to be a little bit
more judicious in calling fouls, and they tend to temper
back and keep the whistle in there in their pocket
(04:44):
a little bit more than normal in the playoffs. But
we need to see the competition that we see in
the playoffs in the regular season because because it needs
to matter, and for the good teams it does matter,
and for the good players, it's always about trying to
win games at whatever level that you can. But last night,
the Warriors showed their experience with Curry, Buddy healed, stepped
(05:06):
up and made some huge, big time shots. I thought
Draymond Green was getting out of the skin of the
Rockets in the first half and in the second half
he was making good plays defensively. And I think the
Warriors wrap this up. They may not win Game five
in Houston, but I don't see this going past six.
I think the Rockets are the Warriors win one of
(05:26):
the next two games to move on to most likely
play Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Yeah, you know it was.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Last night was Houston's chance to basically, I wouldn't necessarily
say to end the series, but they took a gigantic
step backwards. Obviously you didn't take the advantage in the
opportunity when Jimmy Butler was out and now he comes back,
and you give all that and go through all of
(05:56):
that to let you know a steph Curry, Amond Green
and Jimmy Butler and Brandon Pajenski to show up and
I'll do what they do. It's it's just it. They're
Oklahoma City last year.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
They're not ready. Yeah, they're not ready. They're not ready yet.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
The one thing I encourage you to do, just for
a series or two, when Golden State's on offense, and
especially when Curry's not running the play from the point
is to watch how Curry gets open and to watch
the movement. And I don't know that I've ever seen
a player that can be in traffic in the paint
(06:34):
have somebody grabbing his jersey as he's trying to make
a move. The first move is never where he's intending
to go. That's always the decoy. He ends up getting open,
and then he needs about a half a second of
space to be able to get a shot off, and
it's so he rarely gets his shot blopped, no matter
if there's a bigger guy switching off.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
On him or not.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Just the way that he plays basketball fundamentally, with his
ability to kind of get a There was a game
that they were playing in the playing game and don't
remember the situation, but the other team couldn't get the
ball inbounded, and so that was called a state's turn,
and everybody in the building knew they wanted to get
the ball into Curry's hands so that he could get
(07:15):
fouled and hit the two free throats. And it looked
like there was no way they could because they were
double covering him and one was grabbing his shirt, and
somehow he made a move and all of a sudden
he was open and he got found to hit the
free throws, and yet the other team couldn't get the
ball inbounded. It's just an amazing thing that he does
with his ability to count toward his body to make
(07:36):
you think he's going one place and he's going another. Obviously,
we're watching one of the all time greats. But he
did it again last night and timing was off a
little bit. Then you had guys like Buddy Heal and
Gary Payton Junior or the tip ind and things like
that to give the Warriors the win.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Yeah, it's I hate the fact that the Warriors are
more than likely going to win this series, especially with
they beat Minnesota. Yeah, but I don't think they can
beat Minnesota. I just didn't want it to be in
this particular situation.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
You have a six seven matchup if they if these
two teams win two and three, could be gone.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, they could be gone.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
It just rubs me the wrong way because obviously, you know,
I texted you watching somewhat watching that if you want
to call it a basketball game with with Miami, And
then I hear Jimmy Butler in his off walk the
off the court and he's like, oh, yeah, you know,
I found.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
My joy again.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
And you knew you knew, he knew I was a
shot at Miami. It was a shot at Miami. You
knew he knew what that score was and was just
like ha ha ha. And I'm just like that I'm
not there.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
I'm just like, but see if he was there that
Miami was a better team when he was there, and
he I understand that players in the NBA, and maybe
players in all sports they looked at. They want respect
as much as they want money. They want to be respected.
(09:03):
And when you wouldn't give him a contract for services rendered,
that's where the disrespect in his mind came in. I've
taken you to two finals. I've been the poster child
for your team for the last couple of years. I'm
the leader of this team. I got one year and
fifty million dollars left. Can you give me a deal
to where I get another year an extension? And I
(09:26):
understand that, but I don't think the Miami Heat or
any other organization owes you for services rendered. It's about
where you. We live in a what have you done
for me lately? World, and you don't want to extend
a guy. See the Heat or the Heat don't have
enough players to win a championship by getting rid of
Jimmy Butler now, and I guess they got Andrew Wiggins
(09:48):
as part of the deal and whatever else they got.
Now they're in a position to where they can go
maybe go trade for Giannis or somebody like that. If
they can find the right pieces or get a third
or fourth team to go in on with them. But
they were not going to win a championship with him,
and Golden State may not either. But Golden State's closer
to winning playoff games than they were without him, because
(10:08):
without him it was just Draymond and Steph and a
bunch of guys that really don't matter. I think Pojenski
is going to be a good player. Moody's kind of
a Moody person to begin with. But anyway, the Warriors
win last night. They're up three to one, and I
think they close out the series, maybe not in Game five,
but in game six. All right, coming up next to
should or Sanders fell we knew about that, But what
(10:30):
about the fall of Quinn yours. I've got some thoughts
on his journey from South Lake, Carrol to the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
All that. Coming up next, It's the Andy Everett Show
on the Ticket
