Speaker 1 (00:03):
A couple of more segments before we finally call it
a year. A wha, that was an abrupt cut. It's
all good. Oh no, I love I saw earlier double tea. Whatever.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I was working your position years ago. There were so
many times where like, I was not very good at
that job. Let's just put it that way.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I was. There were a lot of what I ended
up referring to as misfires.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
So anytime there was a mistake, it was like, yeah,
I don't know what happened, man, it was it was
a computer misfire. That's that's not on me. So I
you're killing it. We're nailing it. We're having fun. It's
the last show of the year. There's two segments left.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Good job, buddy. That one right there.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I went to grab something and I had my hands
slowly putting it down, and then it slipped and it
went a little quicker, and I was like, well.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
No, there's again, Like, you didn't do anything wrong. The
computer misfired. It's blame everything on AI.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Speaking of blaming everything on AI, my buddy Cat, my
podcast partner, who also blames everything on AI.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
He is not able to join us today as he's
recovering from a little procedure. Get well, buddy, But one
I was gonna bust his chops because he wanted to
do the fantasy league. It turns out he won the
consolation bracket. But this guy, the Jerry Jones of fantasy

(01:38):
football that I am now proclaiming myself to be uh
along along with the great work of my player personnel,
guys zeb Pin a solid, solid local public educator here
in our city.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Zeb carried our team. He Zeb did everything. It was
a great victory for chairman me out. Chairman came out
on top. Zeb I.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Contributed to our draft strategy, but everything else was all Zeb,
So shout out ZEB. I was going to also drop
the bomb on Cap that this was the first time
in seven years that Zeb had played fantasy football.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Oh no, he's a fantasy basketball guy. So he got
beat by a couple of Philip Rivers. That's right exactly.
So I you know, I know, I knew that would
get under Capskin. Are you gonna do it again next year? Oh? Yeah,
we gotta do. Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
The Sports Cave will have a fantasy league every year
and I until Zeb and Zeb you have the job
again next year. If you want it unless you don't
repeat as champion, then I'm gonna have to find someone new.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
I run my. I mean, Jimmy got fired after a
second Super Bowl. That's exactly right.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
And you know you have European soccer managers getting fired
if they win or lose two games in a row.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
So I I'm going to be a.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Bit cutthroat with it, but no, we'll We'll definitely do

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Always always entertaining. We have him do some stuff with
me as well. But we'll be doing some audio only
short episodes Monday, Wednesday and Fridays to go along with

excited about that. Again, it wouldn't be possible without y'all

(06:01):
riding along and listening and continuing to support the show.
This would be the third year of y'all's podcast, right,
it will be so it started, it'll be the third year.
It started originally as just me trying to do it
and then.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
That's correct. I hated it and got.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Really you know, some some strong imposter syndrome, got really
inside my own head basically basically did a Bo Burnham
and went full depressed white guy and like trying to
like none of this matters, it's pointless, and then put
it on hiatus for a while.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
And then I got CAP and LG involved, and.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Really they got me motivated to be creative again, so
we started that back up this year. The response has
been great. The trust me my heart's happy, which makes
me happy with it.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Buskin.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Most importantly, I'm proud of the content so appreciate all
of y'all riding along.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
This next year.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Should be even big, even bigger, even better for the podcast,
for the station as we try to raise every boat
with this high tide we have here at iHeart but Cap,
get well and get ready for a full five day
work week because I need an accountability partner to keep
the shows on it.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
But coming up next, let's close.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
It out with one final segment before we call it
the end of the year. Let's look at some of
our sports viewing coming up on TV over the next
few days.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
