Speaker 1 (00:04):
Final game of the season against the Colts. The Colts
now with nothing to play, and Mark mentioned apparently it
doesn't seem like they are going to extend the Philip
Rivers experience or experiment. I guess you could probably say better.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, thank god, I mean that that.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
That felt like more of a Teas than Trevon Diggs
coming back from ir Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
I wouldn't want to see old man Rivers going up
against this Texans defense that Mark VanderMeer called the best
Texans defense ever.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
By the way, Double T was telling me during the
break he wants to change his most random NFL jersey
from Victor Cruz to cecil shorts, but he didn't specify
if it was Texans or jagged cecil shorts Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Okay, well that's way more random.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Yeah, I was about to say, especially coming from a
lifelong Texans face.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
My random Texan one might be DJ Sweringer.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Oh that's random random you.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Never ceased to Himzell.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
I love Double Tea just by talking, if nothing else.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Before we jump back into some college football talk, we
did have a couple of news stories besides the Trayvon
Diggs release break. Today, it's being reported now that Devin
Basell is out tomorrow night against the Knicks left abductor strain,
and also Steph Castle is questionable left thumb sprain, so.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
So that their wings are clipped right now.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Huh. You could say that you're proud of that one,
not really actually regret that one a little bit. You should,
I would say, dump that was unnecessary. God, So I guess.
I guess that would means we see a lot more
Lindy Waters. Maybe we might see some Dave Jones Garcia
if nothing else, probably a lot more car We see
a lot more Carter Bryan recently.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah, sliding back into the rotation.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
But I like him better as a free I don't
really want to put him at two if I don't
have to.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
No, I think there's, you know, getting through this stretch
of games, you know, coming off the back to back losses,
you're probably going to see some experiencementation with the lineups
to begin with from Otta Harper.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Probably Kildon playing the two, which Kelden can play that.
I'm fine with that one.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, You're going to see guys sliding up up a
few slots in the rotation. Also with Utsa coming off
the Massive Bowl wind they had over the Christmas break
the news. Now they have filled their offensive coordinator spot. Yes,
(02:27):
and seemingly an amazing hire, a great hire with just
judging off a track record moving up consecutive levels. I
don't know. I think it's Rick.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Bowie or Booie.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
It's Bowe Rick Booe Booe Okay rappling Christian Wildcat than
Western Kentucky hilltop. But he followed his quarterback, I guess,
sorry mchiv followed him and he had mea mckiv on
a All American year right before they went this year
to Western Kentucky where he put up I think also
like three thousand touchdowns, sorry, three thousand yards and thirty touchdowns.
His offense is like it's very West Texan. It's not
(03:06):
quite air raid, but it's a lot of spread. You'll
see a lot more like a lot of like three
and four receiver looks, and so I think, if nothing else,
UTSA is trying to get more is trying to get
more aerial, if anything else, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
And on a day where you know, UTSA did lose
arguably their best player, Devin McEwan, and the transfer portal
at the wide receiver slot, it's nice to get a
you know, offensive coordinator hired who has a track record
of running explosive offenses, something that I know a lot
of UTSA fans will celebrate mightily. As we go into
(03:42):
the new year, looking ahead to next season, the college
football has seen some faces move around. We saw Kyle
Winningham move from Utah to Michigan unexpectedly randomly. Chip Kelly
goes from coaching the offense for Ohio State last year
in a national championship year, Raiders offensive coordinator this year
(04:06):
gets dismissed. Now he's hired at Northwestern as the offensive
coordinators they hint Chip Kelly and stay in college. I
would say that's hit. I would say that's safe. He
never should have left New Hampshire if he could go
back and do it all over again.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I think, honestly, his hurry up offensive style fits more
of college anyway, because NFL offensive linement a lot of
times in the thirties, they don't want to run that much. No,
they don't want to do that. The twenty year old
offensive linement they're down for. They don't mind, especially they're
scoring points. But those older dudes, they don't want to
do that much.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Cardio yeah, And I bring up the Chip Kelly higher
because I think the game of the day, the game
of the best game of all of the quarterfinal matchups,
and the only game that Vegas has a favorite that
is less than a touchdown. That is the Oregon Texas
(04:55):
Tech game, the eleven o'clock kickoff New Year's Day, the
Oregon exploded offense in the shadow, the explosive offense that
Chip Kelly once ran versus the Texas Tech defense. Just
as far as you know, two sides of the ball
facing off against each other, I think that is the
best matchup you have across all the quarterfinal games.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
I don't disagree, especially just because like a lot has
been put on if you're talking about Oregon on on
Dante More and this offense, and on Texas Tech, especially
their front seven. And one thing that Oregon has struggle
with is they is they have allowed pressure against or
against against religious defensive lines. We saw against Indiana and
we saw it against even Washington. What hurts Texas Tech
defense and Double TEE can vouch for this as well.
(05:37):
If they have one weakness a lot of times is
they do give up the deep ball a little too often.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
They won't give up a lot every game.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
But they will give you a couple of those of
those deep shots that you really want to take advantage
of in that one not as be paid attention, I
think to the Tech Tech offense.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Versus the Oregon defense.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
The Oregon defense I think is more opportunistic, but it
can be but it can be beaten up with, but
it has it has those guys that can make plays
on that side. Text offense honestly has been predicated based
on what the offensive line does. If it's run block
and really well, you're gonna see a two hundred plus
yard day on the ground. If they're pass block and
really well, then Baron Morton's gonna play three or four touchdowns.
That's been kind of them this year.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
And Baron Morton we got the report earlier today as well.
He's out of the boot one hundred for the first
time in a long time. One hundred. Yeah. And in
their terms, the the interesting matchup with uh, you know,
the Tech defense has been so great this year statistically,
the they've only played one top fifteen offense and you know,
(06:37):
looking back at the teams that they have, you know,
beat and control dominated over the course of this season.
There's not a real explosive offense or a weapon anywhere
close to what Dante Moore can be.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Yeah, I can't say anything. They would have been, it
would have been, it would have been. Sean Levitt was
probably the closest you would have came to that, but
he got he got hurt in that game against against
TECHU Tech was also playing with their back quarterback as well.
But yeah, so they didn't play Baylor, who has Sawyer
Robinson I think might be the best quarterback in the
Big Twelve. They didn't play him. I think the best
quarterback they played this year. And that's and that's subjective.
(07:13):
Whether it's Bear Bachmeyer BYU or Devin Dampier at Utah.
It might have been Connor Wayman, the U of age quarterback.
He's been solid despite you know, some issues on their
offensive line. That Houston team is kind of a sleeping
jib because they have a really good defense and Waven's
pretty good, but they don't have any weapons. That's been
their probably they don't have any deep weapons.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Yeah, I think we're really going to you know, unlike
the you know that Ohio State Miami matchup tomorrow night.
Both those teams are you know, top ten in the
lead or top ten in the nation in amount of snaps,
least amount of snaps a game. They slow it down.
They take the most amount of time between plays. You're
(07:51):
going to see the exact opposite of that. I think
between Oregon and Tech.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
I'm already calling right now. So I told this with
Andy Eshan.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
I'll tell you right now, I'm calling for the upset
with Miami versus Ohio State because when one Ohiose hasn't
been challenged enough to where, like I think, you can
defermally say they're the best team, but when they have
been challenged, that Ohiose offensive line is susceptible, especially with
a good pass rush. Miami last week against Texas A
and M and both of y'all saw that game. Y'all
saw Ohiose has an offensive line that Miami can can
(08:19):
rush on. Their secondary might be susceptible if you give
them clean looks. That's been the issue all year for them.
But if they can get to past this offensive line,
Julian's saying as good a quarterback as he might have been,
he led the FBS and completion percentage.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
He's an accurate quarterback.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
He's also a young quarterback who when he has a
hand in his face will make those mistakes.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
And I think Miami and this one is gonna take
advantage of that.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah. I think if you're looking at the most likely upset,
it would be hard to disagree with you.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
I think because because I don't consider Tech organ really
an upset. I feel that's an evenly matched game.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Yeah. And it's also I think Tech Oregon is you know,
a great matchup for two teams that are kind of
you know, Oregon's been obviously where they're at for a while.
Tech is right to this, you know, this stage. But
both of those programs you think of more as new money.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
And then you look at the you know, classic matchup
Miami of Ohio and Miami versus Ohio State. We talk
about the national championship games from the early odds. The
Alabama Indiana game is really interesting to me because we've
seen Indiana beat up on, you know, Oregon. They got
(09:29):
the win over Oregon in the regular season, they got
the win over Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game.
I want to see what they look like going up
against an SEC team. For as as as silly as
that sounds.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
No.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
I still hold a.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Certain level of physicality that Alabama has that Oregon or
Ohio State doesn't happen.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
But I don't think this Alabama team is as physical
as Alabama teams in the past. Is Alabama team has
been beat up. They also can't run the ball, which
didn't make any sense at one time. That's all they
could do. This offense is obviously predicated on if you
can get pressure on ty Simpson. The offense falters and
the defense is going through injuries. They're not as physical
as they once were. I agree, like if you can
go especially just for bragga rights, I don't believe this
(10:11):
is this is what you would call a traditional Alabama defense.
It's not as dominant. No, it's very susceptible. You can
you can take you could take advantage of it.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
I do believe. But there is something, But there is
there is.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Bragging rights that go behind beating in beating in an
SEC defense in the postseason. Early on the season, people
will say they chalk that up to like, you know,
Russ whatever. There's always an excuse for that you beat
an SEC team, especially in.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
The collegetball playoff.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
That holds a lot of regard, especially because there's a
lot of questions about Mendoza, if he's gonna be the
number one pick, is he really a NFL quarterback?
Speaker 2 (10:40):
All that stuff. So I don't disagree with you.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
I think the match up here for me honestly similar
to Miami's front seven against Julian saying Indiana's front seven
because they got after Julian saying Indiana's front seven against
Alabama's offensive line.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I think that is where this game is gonna be
one or lost either side.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
SOE I think I think Alabama is my pick if
I was picking one upset in this round. H I'll
ask you this, which which game do you think has
the closer spread? Indiana Alabama or Miami Ohio State?
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Miami Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
It's Alabama Indiana. Alabama is only a seven point underdog,
uh and Miami is a nine and a half point underdog.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
The fact that you haven't mentioned Georgia Ole miss tells
me that they have that as a double digit spread.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
It's no, it's actually it's seven as well with six
and a half. But I haven't mentioned it because I
just don't want to talk about it. It's we've seen this,
We have it. We know what these teams are, they play,
they've played each other every year in conference. There's it's
the least exciting of them. And unfortunately it's the seven
o'clock primetime kickoff.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
And you know what, you know what TV wants? What
TV wants.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
They want Oregon to beat Tech, Bama to beat Indiana,
they want Georgia to beat ole Miss, and they want
a Hoio State to beat Miami. But like what the
college well purists wants to happen is they want Miami, Tech, Indiana,
and ole Miss all to have those wins because they
want the non sho there's no powers in there.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Yeah, no, I want chaos. I want to see Tech
play Indiana. I want to see ole Miss play Miami.
I want to see you want to see a basketball
final four? Essentially, absolutely, that's exactly what I want to see.
One more segment here in the five o'clock Football Happy Hour,
let's talk about the future of Darren Woodson and are
(12:21):
they finally going to let him in. Coming up next
on The Andy Everett Show,
