Speaker 1 (00:07):
UTSA Baseball Saturday, six o'clock from Jackie Robinson Stadium on
the campus of u c L at the University of
California at Los Angeles. They never call them UC Los Angeles.
That really does irritate me when they call it Texas

(00:28):
San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Well, I it was really does it last month? They're gonna, Yes,
they're gonna do the rebranding.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Well they have and and some is some way shape
and or form. Uh And I don't know. I mean,
we've spent way too long establis UT saying UTSA. There
was in two thousand and four, maybe two thousand and
three they had these hats that said Texas San Antonio

(01:01):
and yeah, and they went, Nope, we're not doing that. No,
we're not going to new we are not going to
do that. And it's yeah, anyway.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Are you Are you okay with though at least just
saying ut San Antonio and and not Texas. I'm not
on board with Texas San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Definitely not that. The UT San Antonio. I'm not thrilled
with it is ut SA say it loud, say proud.
Here's my question, Okay, Saturday at six Sunday Monday, if needed.
We seriously, I don't I don't know if we're actually
going we meaning me and my family, because we're talking

(01:46):
that's a serious amount of that's a serious amount of
coin to go and do that, not because it's la,
but because you've got like three days to put everything together,
and the airlines know that, and of course then that's
how they get you. That man, that price, that price
tag in in like two hours today it went up
one hundred and forty dollars. You know, so well, be

(02:09):
cause you know, too many people got got the cheap
seats and now oh no, you've got to you know,
you've got to move up front, and you've got to
do all this and you know, two bags don't fly
for free, no more, come on man. Oh yeah. So
but and then we find out that, you know, the
price of the ticket per ticket one hundred and seventy dollars.

(02:32):
You think they are it's like New York Nicks. Well,
what do you think it is? The NBA Finals? I mean, now,
and you know we're I mean one hundred and seventy
bucks for a college baseball game went generally it's yeah,
I think at UTSA it's like eight dollars maybe eight bucks.
I mean it's it's a good deal. I can tell

(02:52):
you that.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
By the way, yes, right now, looking at the lowest
potential ticket that you can get for Game one one
at the pay Comm Center in Oklahoma City.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Oh, twenty three hundred dollars three d and fifty eight bucks. Oh,
that's that's all the way at the top. Probably, that's
all the way at the top. And you you can't
sit up straight because your head's gonna hit to Sally. Probably.
I mean it's not bad, No, no, that's not I
mean in the in the days, in the days when

(03:24):
the Spurs were doing it, I mean I had I
had tickets, and I knew what they were going for,
and I knew what I was getting for him to. Yeah,
it was. It was a lovely thing. So I'm pretty
sure we're going to because we'd have to do. Let's
see my son, his wife, three kids, me, that's six

(03:46):
of us on the plane. I think where I'm where
I'm going with this is, you know, in the in
the old days, not here in other places. When I
worked in San Francisco, we ran a promotion to go
to spring training with the Oakland As. I'm sorry for

(04:09):
that well, no, it was in It was in the day.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Oh back in the day.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
It was in the day when you know the Oakland A's.
The Oakland A's have had two great times. One was
with Reggie and those guys in the seventies and one
was with Mark McGuire and jose Canseco in the eighties.
That's when I'm talking about. Okay, so you could fly
to they they charged a plane going to fly and

(04:35):
go down to Scottsdale and stay in the hotel and
go to three days of games and then fly back home.
And it was a pretty reasonable price. I'm just wondering
if there's ever going to be a time where UTSA
can do that, And I don't know, maybe it's not.

(04:57):
Maybe you know, maybe the university will like look at
and go, oh no, well, that's not the job that
we're doing. I think it's a moneymaker. I think at
this particular point, potentially you could you could get you know,
football charters are plane. There's one hundred and seventy five seats.

(05:20):
I know because I'm in seat number one seventy five.
There's one hundred players and coaches. So three quarters of
the plane has taken up with the team. Well, for baseball,
there wouldn't be that many. So if they chartered a
plane and then they sold the rest of the seats,
they could maybe. I don't know, you know, because I

(05:41):
know the hotel they're staying in. That's the first hotel
that I stayed in when I got a job in
Los Angeles in nineteen seventy four.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
All right, well, don't tell the opponents where they're staying.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
No, well you know the opponents, No, trust me, the
UCLA people know every one. I know where it is.
It's so funny because I found out today and it's like, oh,
I've been there. I know that it's about three blocks
down or about about two miles down from a couple

(06:13):
of interesting things. Dead Man's Curve because Sunset Boulevard. Oh okay, okay,
so dead Man's Curve is there. Wonder why it's called that.
That's where Jan Barry from Jan and Dean and the
song dead Man's Curve. He'd come around the corner and
there was a garbage truck stopped. You know. He was

(06:34):
in his corvette, in his sixty six Corvette doing about
one hundred. Well, the last thing I remember Doc was
going into the curve and he came around the curve
and the garbage truck was stuck and stopped there, and
he went right underneath it and barely survived. Wow, barely survived.

(06:55):
But was not the same once he came out of
the calm, he was not the same. That's another rock
and roll history moment, but another history moment. Marilyn Monroe live.
You know, half a mile away, another mile away from
there is is the the the bungalows where they found

(07:16):
John Belushi. That's on on that same road. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Wow, that got ominous very quickly.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yeah it it's la hey. You know, it's right across
the street from the from the Getty Museum and that
whole hillside that was on fire a couple of years ago.
It's just man, just you know, I do wish I
was going, but I just don't think it's a Uh
we're going to have a hell of a party. I
can tell you that.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Does is coach his homemark? You do they abide by
the same uh, I guess, not rules, but whatever you
want to call them. Uh, culture pillar. You know that
they touched so they still Okay, well I'm not part

(08:04):
of this. I can violate culture pillar. Culture pillar, rules
if by chance, oh say, road runners make it all
the way we've talked, we've where Okay, the orders are
in for the Winnebago. We're probably driving to to Omaha.

(08:25):
That yeah, two wins away from Omaha, which is just
you know, every year, it's funny they they talk about
all the time. They talk about, well, you know, we
want to go to we want to wind up in Omaha. Yeah,
that's what everybody wants to do. But to be on
this precipice, this close, two wins away, it's a it's

(08:48):
a two out of three series against u c. L
A against against the Bruins. It starts Saturday, six o'clock
our time.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Uh. Last story for this particular segment in watching after
after UTSA clinched, I turned on the UCLA game and
they were playing uc Irvine and the announcers on the
game a lady and a guy, and the young lady
kept saying, you know, there was a heat wave that

(09:21):
came into LA this past week. It's been really odd,
and the guy goes, yeah, I know, it's been up
to eighty two and it's like, you've got to be
kidding me. Oh, and it's so humid, it's like, wait
a minute, you know humidity and yeah, well no, the

(09:41):
humidity you know when when you're when you've got the
marine layer, that's the fog that comes in off the
off the coast. When you've got the marine layer coming
in and it's sixty eight degrees, the humidity can go
ahead and be sixty percent and it's not that big
a deal because it's sixty degrees. You know, the game
time temperature Saturday is probably going to be in the

(10:03):
neighborhood of seventy two degrees. These guys are going to
think it's February when they get there and they're you know,
imagine playing I always told my son this, Imagine playing
baseball if you didn't have to sweat, And just imagine that.
We have more coming up ticket Sports Time five, p.
Forty six
