Speaker 1 (00:04):
We can make an argument as to what is the
best postseason. I think baseball's got to be up there.
I think baseball is more dramatic than the Super Bowl is,
especially a lot of times the Super Bowl is a blowout.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
The Super Bowl is one game.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
I think the NBA Finals sometimes well obviously takes center stage.
And I'm going to kind of go off topic here
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
You gotta update chain no I was saying, like he's
going off topic. Where's he going with this?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
So well, the other day, the UFL ended its operation
in San Antonio, and I don't know that spring football
really works. I think if you're just a football junkie
and you really don't care what game is playing, if
there's a game on, you'll watch it.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
It caters to that.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
And I saw some people on social media saying that
San Antonio can't support pro sports. They were the second
biggest attend and it's in the UFL. So I don't
care what the numbers are. The UFL as a spring
league just doesn't work for me. By the time when
the Super Bowl's over, I'm ready for football to be over.
And when August September rolls around, I'm ready for it

(01:13):
to start. But in March, I want to watch basketball,
and in April I want to watch pro basketball, And
in April I want to watch the Masters, and in
May I want to watch the PGA and all the
major golf tournaments throughout the summer. And I just don't
think the UFL works. I think the USFL would have
had a chance if the Powers did be back in
the day had decided to keep the league in the spring.

(01:33):
They were never going to be able to compete against
the NFL and play in the same stadiums and control
any revenue that they needed back.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
In the eighties.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
But the idea that we can't support pro sports is ridiculous.
The idea that the UFL was a viable league, I
just don't think it works very well. Because I think
we want to crown a college football champion in January,
an NFL champion in five February, a basketball champion March April,
the Masters in April. In June, we want to crowd

(02:06):
an NBA champion in August.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
We want to start football.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
And that's why I think it would be cool to
have the football championship game a couple of weeks earlier
than it is and it's one of the reasons why
I actually think the WNBA would work if they moved
to a January to July league, because they're playing their
most important games during football season and during the baseball
playoffs and their third fiddle as far as what we're

(02:30):
watching and what we're paying attention to. And I didn't
sit down and watch the WNBA from tip off to finish,
but I saw bits and pieces of it, and it's
great basketball. But if I'm watching the Yankees and the
Blue Jays or the Aces and the Mercury, the baseball
is going to take center stage every time. And I'm
a big, big fan of the WNBA. If the championship

(02:52):
games were in July, I think that would be appointment
viewing television.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
And it's probably the only month of.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
The year, maybe August, where we don't really have a
champion that we crown. And the other thing, too, is
is I think the NBA would work with the WNBA
because they play in a lot of arenas similar, especially
when Caiton Clark's playing, and a lot of times they don't.
They play in auxiliary arenas in those cities, So I

(03:20):
think that would work. But the point of all of
this is when you get October baseball, and especially when
you get it in places like Boston and New York.
I think Saint Louis is in that category. Milwaukee probably
is to a certain extent. We don't see a lot
of baseball in Wrigley Field because the Cubs aren't very
often in the playoffs, even though they've been there, more

(03:40):
so in the last twenty years than they were in
the previous sixty. But when you get to a place
where it really matters to the fans, Philadelphia I think's
in that boat. San Francisco probably as well.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Houston.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
The Rangers had their run a couple of years ago.
It's really cool to see the drama of the game,
and last night he saw dramatics. Now it looked like
the series was going to be over with in a
hurry when the Blue Jays took a six to one lead,
and what there was two factors. First of all, the
Blue Jays had to make a couple of defensive mistakes,
which they did. The second thing that they have and

(04:14):
I can't remember the third baseman was for the Blue Jays,
but that should have been the left fielder's ball that
you have to give way to him, and he's got
to take charge. You don't want to be back pedaling
and back pedaling with a wondering if you're going to
run into the guide. The left fielder should have been
calling that playoff the whole time for Toronto. But you
gave Judge a chance. And Judges had an amazing postseason.

(04:34):
He's batting over five hundred in the postseason. And then
the home run that he hit was a pitch that
nobody else on the planet could hit. As Derrek Jeter said,
one hundred at your neck. The only person that can
turn that around is Aaron Judge, and he did it.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Now. I think cal Rawley deserves.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
To be the American League MVP this year for hitting
sixty one home runs and for being a catcher. But
I think Aaron Judge is the best baseball player on
the planet right and it's probably not really that close.
And last night he was able to turn them that
pitch and give the Yankees the lead. But they had
to play a little bit smaller ball than they normally

(05:10):
do and hit the ball the other way and get
on base to be able to get it to six'
three and then get on base again to set the
table For judge to hit the home, run and then
Once chisholm broke the, tie it was all over from.
That and then the other part of the equation last,
night which has been the nemesis for a lot of.
Teams The dodgers have a bad. Bullpen The yankees bullpen

(05:33):
has been suspect throughout the year until you get to
the closer and whether it Was Tim hill Or dotel
or any of the guys that they bought out, there
they pitched their tails off and now Forces game four
this evening In New. York i'm skeptical as whether The
yankees can win A game five In toronto or, not
BUT i think they're gonna Win game, four which also

(05:54):
brings me To Cam. SCHLITLER i don't think it's it's
humanly possible for him to throw another their eight, inning
twelve strikeout. SHUTOUT i would love to see that. HAPPEN
i thought it was so cool the way he handled
it and it fed off the the enthusiasm of the
crowd last week and The boston series to win that.
Game But toronto's a better. Team toronto gets on, Base

(06:16):
toronto leads the. League it, hits they lead the league
in batting, average they score. Runs if you if you
can pitch seven innings or six and two, thirds six
and a, third maybe even, six and give up one
or two runs and keep your team in the game
and hope your bats take, ADVANTAGE i think The yankees
can win. This Alex rodriguez made a terrific point last
night on The Postgame show About. Toronto It's game four

(06:39):
and you're pitching a bullpen game in the.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Playoffs you don't have a fourth pitcher that you.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
TRUST i, MEAN i understand if you have a guy
with a short hook in your fourth, pitcher you may
not trust him in a high leverage. Situation but, really
you don't have a fourth starter that can go out
there and give you three innings and then go to the.
Bullpen you're gonna start bullpitning all the way and keep
your your fourth and fifth starter on the. Bench that

(07:05):
to me is a, problem and the only way you
can fix that problem is If toronto scores a bunch of.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
RUNS i will say, THIS i THINK i think then
in your argument about like whether baseball has the has
among the best, POSTSEASONS i think it has definitely the
most story and most romantic of all the. Sports my,
FAVORITE i should, SAY i think As March. Madett but
you also Know i'm a fan of college. Basketball, yes
when it comes to, baseball and especially with the teams
like The. Yankees teams like The yankees The dodgers who

(07:31):
also have a really good player in their aspect of, show,
hey they're the ones who we're going to keep the
attention because you you and you AND i have talked
about this throughout the. Year, baseball, well if, you is
very much an enjoyable sport through the first half of the,
season but once playoffs, start the rating, skyrocket and in
cities Like seattle, especially baseball has become rejuvenated. There cities
like SEE i Think Saint, louis you could, argue and

(07:52):
Maybe chicago might be the two biggest baseball cities In.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
America NOT i Sink Saint louis And New york would
be in that that category.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Too, WELL i consider In New york on a bat
BUT i agree because The mets and The yankees are
very popular. There BUT i think basketball takes center stage
in that, city whereas In, chicago they loved The, cubs
they loved The, bulls they love The, bears they love The,
bulls but just because you had The cubs And White
sox sharing, territory and In Saint louis they did have The.
Rams but, like The cardinals are such a storied franchise
right in the middle of pretty much. Nowhere it's it's

(08:22):
historic in that.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Right but, well the for, years The cardinals were the
furthest Team west Until la And San francisco became, franchises
and then later On houston And texas became. Franchises but
when baseball finally expanded west in the fifties and, sixties
prior to, That Saint louis was the furthest team to the,
west and The west coast had a bunch of minor league,

(08:43):
teams but pretty much From minnesota To South texas and
from that h that longitude line to the middle of
the country Was cardinal territory Or cub's territory or Maybe reds.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Territory, yeah and their radio.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Stations were just as powerful as w is to where
people can hear them all over the, world all over the.
Country so uh, YEAH i just think that you are.
Right it's the romanticizing of. It but the baseball season
is a grind from From april To, september and then
once On october rolls around the grind stops and people

(09:18):
start paying, attention and you wouldn't care you managed differently
in the eighth inning of a playoff game than you
do in the eighth inning of a game In. May
you just have to and every pitch the fans are
on their feet thinking this is the one that's going
to win the game or lose the game for, us
and it's a it's a pretty cool thing.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
To, see all.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
Right the coach of The Saint Louis cartin or The Arizona,
Cardinals jonathan Gannon, uh went After amari Di marcardo the
other day after he did not secure the football crossing
the goal. LINE i was very adamant about my disdain
for that and the idea that you have to give
up the ball when you cross the goal. Line but

(09:56):
we're going to talk about that in another vein coming
up here in just a little.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
