Speaker 1 (00:04):
I still think in some regards, participation trophies have have
kind of been part of the reason why people feel
like when they're criticized or overly criticized, or somebody says
something to them that they either take offense to it
or they have their feelings hurt. And you know, I'm

(00:24):
almost sixty two years old, and you know, get over it.
You're going to get your feelings hurt from time to time.
It's just part of life.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
And the last couple of generations have h Yes, you're
in this. You're definitely in this because you are parented
differently than I was.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
There's no question about it that, yeah, because you had
different parents.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Well you were you were do You were parented softer
than I was. My dad was a coach, your your
generation was parented softer. Now you specifically may not be there,
but you know, try The things are a lot different
now than they were then, and not necessarily always for

(01:04):
the good. But you know, we evolve, and I'll deal
with the evolution. And I'm going through this with with
my kids.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
And you know, they think I'm you know, the the
old man in the uh, the old.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah, or the sea or whatever. But I was a
lady in a shoe.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
But DK Metcalf comes to mind, And apparently this fan
in Detroit was trying to get his attention, either to
have him sign something or to say hi to him
or get a picture or whatever fans do, and DK
was ignoring him, and he called him by his government name,
which is ka Kaelin.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yeah, uh, and DK is a nickname. Well, DK is
the D and the K and de kaelin, I assume exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
So he he took offense to that and kind of
went into the stands and ripped the guy's shirt and
somewhat assaulted him to some extent. And according to DK,
he had some kind of a racial slur that was
directed in his way, which everybody around this fan says
it didn't happen, and that nothing he said should have

(02:12):
warranted a player to go into the stands and take
action as as Metcalf did.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yeah, the fans be more of an idiot than being
rude and.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Disrespectful, yeah, or or or trying to be you know,
cute or kind of trying to be on the on
edge a little bit, Yeah, trying to get under his skin,
because hey, you wouldn't come over here and take my picture,
or you wouldn't sign the autograph or whatever.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah, I don't care what level of spotlight you're on.
When you are in the public eye, you're.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Going to get criticized, and if you can't handle it,
you're gonna have to figure out how to handle it
or or not do it. Yeah, And I think this
kind of behavior is one of the reasons why Seattle
moved off of him and basically gave him to Pittsburgh
for not a whole lot of compensation in return. And
a lot of times you don't get a lot of
compensation when you move a better player anyway. And I

(03:02):
think he's an incredibly talented football player. But we see
a lot of these players. We've had this with Kevin
Durant for years, where when somebody is critical of him,
he goes on fake Twitter and defends himself or he
gets overly and sensitive or over sensitive about what people's
opinions of him are. And everybody wants to be loved

(03:24):
and to feel good and to have everything happen positively.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah, it's just not going to happen that way.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
And it doesn't matter what you do, you're gonna face
criticism at some point, and you have to learn how
to best handle that. And the best thing for DK
metcalf is if he would have just ignored the guy
and walked to the locker room, and he'd be about
a half a million dollars richer than he gets today
and he wouldn't be suspended for two games at Pittsburgh
kind of needs.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
I'm so in terms of like the event itself being
called de Kaal instead of DK, I don't personally, I
don't know what it's like to go buy a nickname
and then have someone called by the name that only
he said, only my mama can call me. That's that's
something that I don't understand personally. What I do understand
is in terms of optics, just optics alone, is that
if you and I hate to use this term, but

(04:11):
it kind of what it is, if you cry racism
and no racism was found.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
We talked about this earlier in the show, that is
a bad look on you.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Because that's gonna have an excuse for the next person
who actually does use a racist term, racist language, racist
actions towards it an athlete.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
The other guy got away with it, So I can
go a little bit further.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, exactly, especially if there's nobody of evidence, there's video
evidence of the of the event and the event in question,
there's there's a witnesses, there's fans around this idiot and
blue hair. Because this guy was an idiot, this guy
was being disrespectful. We can agree on that what DK
did was unnecessary. Again, I don't know what it's like
to have someone call me by my government name and
I take offense to it because I've only ever been

(04:48):
called Shane. No offense to anyone else out there named Shane.
It's a very plain it's not a common name, but
it's a very plain name.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
You can't really, you.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Can't really make a nickname out of that, exactly. It's
like it's like a it's like you you're you're name
is Andrew, correct, but you go by Andy.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Double T's real name is Timothy. He goes by tim
You can't do anything with my name. Unfortunately, it is
what it is. So I'm on DK side in terms of, like,
don't be disrespectful to me just as an adult. But
when it comes to crossing the line in which he did,
and also crying racism, which is a serious thing to do,
you don't joke about that kind of thing, especially in
today's climate, because that that's that stuff is real.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
I take offense that as well.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yeah, I if there is racial word said or a
racist remarks said, then that fan is in the wrong.
It still doesn't mean that that DK Metcalf and go
in the stands and take things into his own hands.
He can call security and the guy's never coming to
an NFL game for.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
The rest of his life. That's how you you get
rid of that, or at least take him the drunk tank. Yeah,
or if he was, I'm assuming he was, because most
NAMS have those.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
But yeah, but DK Metcalf regardless, unless he's going in
the stands to save someone's life, he doesn't need to
be going into the stands. Yeah, And that's what security
personnel is for, and a lot of other things.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Uh and and so.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
I the guy's going to hold a press conference on
Friday and defend himself and show the video, and he's
gonna have lawyers present, and he's gonna make sure that
the world knows he didn't say what DK Metcalf said.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
He said, Yeah, you know, that statement's going to be prepared.
The lawyer's gonna be there to like, you know, protect
he's probably gonna get questioned.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
I don't if you didn't do it, you don't need
a prepared statement. Well, it's gonna have one. Yeah, I'm
sure he will.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
But if you really want to exonerate yourself, let the
people that are at the press conference ask whatever you
want and you can say, you know, I was out
of line because I said to de Kaelin instead of
DK but it was it was meant to be a joke.
It was maybe it wasn't funny to him, but I
never said anything racist, and I never said say anything
about his mother.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Because that's the thing, is like, you get suspended for
conduct Dutch detrimental to the league, and that and that
could be by the way, that's a very broad blanket
term conduct detriment of the league because we see those
things where it's essentially off the field activities and even
though this was happening during a game, but was considered
off the field. That's why he's being suspended. And that's
also why a lot of his guarantees we talked about about.
I think they set up to forty five million of

(07:08):
his guarantees over the next two years could be voided
because of the conduct issue, and also, unfortunately, there could
be ramifications later for this off the field as well,
because the fan has not yet filed suit, but there's
a possibility that he could file a suit against the
NFL or against the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Against the UFF. I guess the see yeah, but.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
If you see a player directly that the team is
the one that's going to bear the brun of that
more often than not. And that's again a later consequence
of this, because I think we're just seeing like the
first domino fall.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
This is far from over all.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Right.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
The other thing about tomorrow is we're going to have
the NBA games from noon to midnight basically, but we're
also going to have three NFL games, and the NFL
has decided to kind of encroach on the NBA's party
because this was never an an NFL day. It's been
an NBA day for the last twenty five thirty years.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
I can go back. It was not that back in
the seventies and eighties.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
It was hardly anything sports related on Christmas Day because
they didn't think people would watch. They were all around
their families and opening gifts and special yeah, watching Christmas
exactly But here's the problem with the NBA. On Christmas Day.
We have three games on the docket tomorrow and one
of them kind of matters with the Lions in the Vikings,

(08:20):
and the other two they do. Denver needs to beat
Kansas City, but Kansas City doesn't have anything to play
for except Spoiler and the Cowboys and the Commanders, which
you think would be a good Thanksgiving Day game, is irrelevant.
Back on Thanksgiving Day, if those teams played or whoever
Dallas played kanas City that day, then those games were

(08:41):
relevant because those teams were still very much part of
the playoff picture. And because it's Christmas Day and it's
been planned for so long, these are games you can't flex.
You can't tell a team on Sunday. Oh, by the way,
you're playing on Thursday when you've been planning on playing
on Sunday. So if you could flex these games like
you could the rest, then then you would be able

(09:02):
to do that.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
But I just don't see where.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
And maybe next year with Christmas on Friday and the
following year with it being on Saturday, you can flex it,
but not if you can't flex the prim the prime
Sunday Christmas Day games Yeah, then I don't think that
the NFL needs to play more than one game on
Christmas Day.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, especially just because, like if you talked about it,
if it were if these were Fox, CBS, NBC games,
then you have probably have less of an issue with them.
But because they're on Netflix and the NFL's are experimented
on Netflix, and they've had buffering issues that goes back
to the Houston Baltimore game. They've done a better job
of accumulating it, but they have yet. Netflix has yet
to have an audience the size of a Cowboys audience.

(09:41):
And whether you love or hate the Cowboys or not,
it doesn't matter. The Cowboys, year in a year out,
are the biggest draw in the NFL. It doesn't matter
they're playing the Chiefs. Do thet matter playing the Raiders
or whoever? Teams want to want to tune in. They
want to see them win, they want to see them lose.
And I don't know yet, and we'll find out if
Netflix has the has the capability of handling all all
those eyes that are going to be on them.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Well, I think they've learned the lesson, and I'm sure,
but the bandwidth has been increased.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
I mean you hope so.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
But with the NBA, unfortunately, I agreed that like for Christmas,
the NBA should be ruling there as it is, and
I wish the NFL and it won't happen because.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
The NFL is gonna do this again next year. But
the one thing is is, though, is we don't have
the Christmas is Friday next year, and I think it's
Sunday in twenty twenty. It's Saturday in twenty six and
then Monday in twenty twenty eight with the leap year.
But you're gonna have weekend games, so maybe you can
flex these games, or you're gonna you're gonna play games
on Friday and Saturday next year in the NFL. All right,

(10:34):
one more segment to go, we wrap up the day
and get ready for Christmas.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
All coming up on the ticket
