Speaker 1 (00:04):
So tyce him good in the Alabama quarterback and informed
to everybody today that he's going to go to the
NFL draft. I'm not sure anybody cares because I don't
think he's a first round pick. Even though he'll probably
be a first round pick.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
I don't think so either. I think he'll I think
he'll probably getting drafted high. Mean, you and I both
know this.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
And for those that aren't aware but love the draft,
quarterbacks can get a third round grade to get drafted
high enough by a team that's desperate enough for a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
That's one of those.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Positions that they get, you get, you get a preferential
treatment from in that regard. I mean, you see all
the time Mandy like quarterbacks say oh he's a second
round coreter, he's a third round quarterback. They go top
ten because that team needs to have a quarterback. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
But here's the thing I think NFL general managers make
a mistake with and again I'm speaking from somebody that's
not a general manager.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
No, it's okay, we see it all the time.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
But anyway, if you are if you need a quarterback
and the and it's your turn to draft, and there's
a quarterback on the board, and you don't think that
quarterback is going to help you for the next six
to seven years, why are you drafting you? Right, if
you don't think he's good enough to be you don't
need to draft a quarterback for the sake of drafting
a quarterback. Yes, if that quarterback is an average quarterback

(01:05):
and would normally be a fourth round pick, and now
you're investing first or second round money, I agree. So
to me, that's the question that has to be asked.
So and and I think Fernando Mendoza and Dotte Moore
are the best two quarterbacks, and I think they're worthy
of being in the first round. But I don't think
either one of them would be a first round pick
if you I mean the first pick in the draft.
When you go back and look the draft two years ago,

(01:27):
typical first round quarterback. Yeah, well you had Jayde Daniels
and Drake may in that draft class, right, those guys
would be seventh or eighth on the list, But now
they're first or second in the quarterbacks because those are
the quarterbacks in this class.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
So, but I think Vegas is going to take Fernando
Mendoza because they got to get a quarterback, and they're
and they're desperate. They just can't do it with Gino
Smith anymore or whoever else they get off the scrap
heat been.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
I've been the mindset that if you're and I'll pick
it back off your opinion, I'll take it to a
step further from may that if you're a team that,
like obviously they're in a rebuild mode, and you understand
this rebuild is gonna be two three years in the making. Anyway, again,
don't force the quarterback on the team. Go ahead and
build other positions of need as well. And go ahead,
and except you're probably gonna suck for the year, start
the veteran quarterback, the bridge guy anyway, because I agree,

(02:10):
and this is obviously very early and all this stuff
like that, But with guys like Mendoza and more, I
think there are things that they do well. Like I
think that Dante Moore, I would say from when I've
seen him play, he's a better processor of defenses. I
don't think he has a very strong passer Mendoz. Mendoz,
I think it has a much better arm. But I
think he also makes a lot of like safe throws
more More than like one more than a lot of
like the deep shots and all.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Which is fine. Take the shape, take the safe shots.
That's fine.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah, to Mendoz has a lot of Mac Jones from
his Alabama days in.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
That's that's a good comparison. Yet he does, he does.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
He's not He's not gonna overwhelm you with his arm overweb.
He's gonna make the right play. He's gonna get you
into the right set. But can he win with inferior talent,
which is what he's gonna be asked to do with
the Raiders for at least a year or two until
they get the roster up.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
And Dante Moore kind reminds you of like a Teddy
Bridgewater Alex Smith like guy that's very accurate with the ball,
but doesn't have like any sort of wow factor to
his game other than like it's just his good actorcy.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
He's an accurate quarterback.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
The second pick in the draft goes to Vega, it
goes to the Jets, and Dote Moore is that is
the next one on the list. Would dot de Moore
be the guy that you would want to pick? I mean,
if you're Dote Moore, would you want to go to
the Jets, or you better off potentially staying at Oregon
for another year, getting your three or four million in

(03:25):
nil and uh, and make another decision to go in
that direction and instead of going to the Jets, which
has been a dumpster fire for a long time and
likely will be for a lot longer time.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
So let me open up a broader idea for you.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
And because I've seen this on Twitter a little bit
and I'm and I've loved this idea. So someone that
I follow who's who covers the Jets and they suggested that,
you know, using that second round pick. The reality is
that is that there's no surefied I guess you call
it elite quarterback talent this year.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Which is fine. There's gonna be some solid ones.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
It's that happens every year with with that second round pick.
Would you not then move moving to a different team
that has expendability at quarterback to let them move up?
And one team that they suggested was gonna be a
team like what was it the Giants because they have
Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston under contract or something like that.
And in that regard, you have you have a coach

(04:16):
who would likely prefer a veteran quarterback anyway, and then
you can get and you can allocate draft assets sort
of future in that way. That way, obviously you're not
forcing a rookie quarterback who's not ready to play.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
I play a bad team.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
I think owners and sponsors want to know, how are
you gonna make my team great immediately? And so the
rush to judgment is is we're gonna go get a
quarterback no matter what. And then sometimes that's not the
right guy. If I am picking anywhere in the first round,
I'm gonna go with I'm gonna look at my needs
and I'm gonna take the best player based on those needs.

(04:49):
And if I need a running back and a quarterback,
a wide receiver, and an offensive lineman and I don't
like the quarterback, I'm not gonna take the best quarterback.
If the if the best player on the board is
the best player at that position in his position group, right,
that's who I'm drafting I would take, because then I
can go get Okay, in the second round, maybe I
get another Dak Press Got or somebody like that. In

(05:12):
the third round, maybe I get an offensive lineman that
I can develop the place for me for ten years.
But I'm not gonna waste first round money on a
position where the choice is not as good as what
I need to help my team right away.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yeah, well, I think if there's a Dak Press on
the second round, you should draft him in the first
round first of all.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
But Dak Prescott wasn't. We didn't know what Dak Prescott
was gonna be until Press.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
If you think there's a quarterback who's better thanhere's gonna
get drafted. I understand that line of thinking. My line
of thinking has always been. And you know, there are
five premier positions in football. This quarterback, the blind side tackle,
whichever side of the quarterback throws, the pass rusher, the
number one receiver, the number one quarterback. Those positions, percentage wise,
are get drafted higher than other positions in the first round,

(05:58):
more than anybody else because they're hard to have tain.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
The next The next pick, though, is to the Cardinals,
and they need a quarterback too, because they're definitely going to.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Move off with Kyler Murray. Oh I think it a swap?

Speaker 1 (06:07):
No, Well, my question is is it would and we
don't know who the coach is going to be in
Arizona yet because they got rid of Anon. But now
the Cardinals they're going to have. The third choice is
who's the third best quarterback in this draft?

Speaker 2 (06:20):
It might be Chambless if he's not granted the eligibility.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Yeah, well, but he's a project. There's no way Chambliss
is ye.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Is to be fit. Every Rocky quarterback's a project.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, yeah, I think, well he's only a sophomore, right, Chadless?

Speaker 2 (06:32):
This is Oh no, that's right. You know, I'm thinking
he's going he's going for a six year.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
It is going for the extra year because he had
the injury in twenty twenty two. Right, that's what the
the the waiver is being debated about. Yeah, but Chambliss
is probably going. I can make more in Mississippi than
I can if I don't get picked until the twentieth
or thirtieth pick in the draft. So but here's the
next one is the Titans and they and Love, the
running back from Notre Dame, is on the list.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Now, do not take a running back in the top five.
Do not do that. Build the offensive line Tennessee.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
I swear I don't listen to Handy and take and
take Jeremiah Love.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
I'm just saying Jeremiah Love would.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Be he would be good now, but take him at fifteen.
Then they trade back and take the team.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Okay, the trade down and and and move move Kyler Murray.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Who now ways a top ten pick on a running back? Andy,
I know you love the position.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
But to position, if there is an elite running back,
I want that guy.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
And after the top ten, the top ten is for quarterbacks,
edge rushers, offensive tackles, receivers, and cornerbacks.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Okay, tight, the Giants are at five, Yeah, they go
get They've got a run, They've got a quarterback. They've
got a running back in scoataboo. Yeah, and uh then
we'll see who they take after that.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
I think they need offensive lineman or cornerback. They were
really bad in covers, they're really bad in pass protection.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
I think the likelyhood is that if they don't go cornerback,
they might go someone like r bel Reeves is a
really good sorry Caleb Downs, the safety from Ohio State,
because they need secondary players.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Or they could go.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Get Spencer fan oh Spencer Fano, a lot of people
think were the first offensive lineman take and he's from
Utah to help keep Jackson Dart upright, the.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Guy who refuses to slide, which you know, I.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Mean ask ask ask two to talk about loa, like
how it is take those hits and like I still
can't believe that guy like just waves off like the
Guardian cat, like it's not that big a deal. Who
Tua another guy like Tua Kirk Cousins, Guys like that
they could be looking for new teams in addition to
Kyler Murray. So I think this year, to be honest, Andy,
the quarterbacks are that could be traded and or signing
free agency might be better than what you're gonna get

(08:26):
in the draft.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Don't you love that? We're gonna have this debate now
for the next four months.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
I love draft talk, you know that.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
But you know me for like, we're gonna have a
different discussion on this every week until the end of April.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Wait till Puma gets involved as well, because like I mean, yes,
you know me for what three or four years up
to this point. You know how love how much I
love and get into the draft. So I have all
kinds of ideas for the next four months. But like
this is very preliminary.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
All right, coming app next Hall of Fame in the
NFL will discuss that next. It's the Andy Ever Show
on the tickets,
