Speaker 1 (00:04):
Texas A and M's got a home date this weekend
with Mississippi State. I don't think a lot of Mississippi State,
if you've followed me recently. I think they're a bottom
feeder in the SEC these days, mainly because everybody else
is just a little bit better. I think that they
may have a shot. I don't know if they play
Florida or not this year, but Florida's really struggling, so
(00:25):
that's possibility. They're probably on the same part as Arkansas Kentucky.
I'm not one hundred percent sold on South Carolina, but
anytime you play at South Carolina, it's hard the entire SEC.
Lank Kiffin came out today and said the days of
SEC dynasties are over, and he's one hundred percent correct.
You're not going to have an SEC team run the table.
(00:46):
This is playing in the NFL every week, and nobody
goes undefeated. You know, maybe every thirty years in the
NFL they get a little run going, but nobody's been
able to do what the Dolphins did back in nineteen
seventy two. So I think that this is a game
that here's how I look at this game, and there's
a lot of games out there. I'm going to use
this same analogy when we talk UTSA and Temple here
(01:07):
in a little bit. If you're going to be a
contender for the for the SEC Crown, a contender for
the College Football playoff group of probably four teams from
the SEC that get in, this is a game you
have to win. You don't have to win it by fifty,
you don't have to hang half one hundred by halftime
and rest starters in the second half, but at the
(01:28):
end of the day, you have to win. And if
you don't win this game, if now your schedule becomes
even tougher with the rest of the games that you
have to play and the difficulty that is coming up
with some road games after these next two home games,
there's there's always When when I was out, I'll get
into this in a little bit, and I was asked
about the Temple UTSA game a couple of days ago.
(01:49):
I said, I don't know whether UTSA will be Temple
or not, but I know if their aspiration is to
win the conference championship, they better because whoever wins the
conference championship is likely to beat Temple. And that doesn't
mean that Temple is a bad team. They're not as
good as everybody else. They're not, I don't think as
good as South Florida. I don't think they're as good
as North Texas or two later Memphis, and all of
(02:10):
those teams, along with UTSA have aspirations of winning the league.
I think if you realistically ask administrations, is Rice, is Charlotte?
Is Temple? Are those teams gonna win the conference championship?
Is Army not this year? Probably not. That doesn't mean
that they're not that they're that they're terrible. It just
means that they're not as good as the teams that
(02:31):
are favored to win the championship. And if you're going
to beat the win your championship, and I think A
and M is in this boat with Mississippi State. If
you're gonna stay on course to be one of the
teams that plays for the conference championship, this is a
game you have to have.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
First off, I'm sorry to any of our Mississippi State
Bulldog listeners. I believe in the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Well listen the Mississippi State listeners, by the way, can
listen you know in Starkville on the iHeartRadio app and
it's great video.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yes, yes, And then they you know, set ticket seven
to sixty as a preset and.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
They probably I probably just made them so mad that
they're going to call in at some point and put
utsa on the schedule or something like that.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, they'll leave us a talkback or they'll you know,
unpreset us. But don't do that. We love you. I
love you. I have a friend in Mississippi who went
to Starkville, who went to the Bulldogs. But you know,
if this was last year's and I know that you're
just going off of last year's record, Andy, Mississippi State
this year has played pretty good. Their four and one
(03:34):
owen one in the conference. And that one loss was
against a number fifteenth ranked Tennessee and they lost women
in overtime. They beat at the time the twelfth ranked
team Arizona or Arizona State. So this isn't this isn't
your grandfather's Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Andy, Well, if you're a Texas A and M fan,
you better hope that it is. Because you can't slip
up these games. You have to win this this game.
You have to beat Arkansas, you have to beat the
teams that are at in the bottom half of the league,
because I guarantee you when Alabama plays Mississippi State or Auburn,
(04:13):
or Florida or not Florida, Georgia or Tennessee, are those
teams that have aspirations of winning the league, They're going
to beat those teams. And that's one of the things
that you look at. Conference play is really hard, whether
it's football or basketball or volleyball. When you get these
conference rivalries going and these conference matchups going, it's really
hard to win. And everybody wants to beat Alabama, and
(04:35):
so Vanderbilt wants to Everybody wants to knock off Texas
A and M because of their prowess, especially financially. Mississippi
State's going to have a battle, and A and M
needs to be able to match that. NFL picks coming
up on the tickets
