Wednesday: Jordan Spieth returns to action

Spieth makes his return, competing in the Cognizant Classic.

For the first time in his professional golf career, Jordan
Speeth is going to play in what is now known
as the Cognizant Classic. This used to be Honda way
back in the day. It was the Jackie Leeson Inverary.
It's been all over South Florida for a many years,
and it's now played at a Jack Nicholas golf course,
with the last three holes affectionately known as the bear Trap.

I think it's actually fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen three of
the hardest holes. The wind blows all over the place,
and if you survive the bear Trap and you're in
the lead, you usually have a pretty.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Good chance of winning.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
But there's a lot of mayhem that tends to happen
on those last three holes. So Jordan speed trying to
play a little bit more of golf. I'm sure he'll
play the next two weeks at bay Hill and then
again at although I'm not one hundred percent sure if
he's eligible for bay Hill next week.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
That may be why he's playing this week.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
He does not have eighty two wins, so he's does
not have the Tiger exemption to play at any signature
event that he wants to next week, by the way,
is bay Hill, and we should know by Friday if
Tiger is going to add that to his schedule or
not having to skip the Genesis after his mom passed away,
or maybe he chooses to play at the Players Championship

in a couple of weeks as a pass champion. So
we're gonna see Jordan's speed play. But Jordan was talking
the other day, and here's something that's really interesting that's
happening right now with this PGA Tour Live thing. I
think they're close to a deal. I I heard Jordan
kind of hint towards this, but it's kind of gonna

come down to when do you want to announce it?
Because the tour doesn't like to upstage at signature events,
and the next two weeks are pretty big events, so
maybe they don't want to announce things at bay Hill
or at the Players. And then after that you have Tampa, Houston,
and San Antonio. So maybe by the time that we

get around to the Vallero Texas Open, we have a
better idea of what this deal is going to look like.
Pending Department of Justice approval. All I want is for
it to get over with and whatever they decide whatever
they agree on, let's just get it done. And yes,
I know it's a foreign entity and there's rules about that,

but rules are meant sometimes to be changed if it's
for the good of the game, and if it's for
the good of the.

Sport, let's change the rules and get it done.

Especially when it comes to live, right, you know, if
there's rules, it's live, let's it's live, and they're irrelevant.
Those rules don't really they don't really matter. But you know, yeah,
it would be nice for them to hurry up and
get this situation, uh, you know settled and announced it,
because I know one of the first people in the
world that's going to be happy about it will definitely

But as long as they, you know, don't upstage the
veleal texts open or uh you know come April, you know,
the tradition like no other.

Yeah, they're not going to announce it the masters. So
if there is, if there is something that's imminent, my guesses, well,
I think we hear about it after the players and
before the texts open, so it'll be Tampa, Houston, San.

Antonio somewhere in there that we may get an.

Answer coming up in June will be at the two
year mark when they decided to bury the hatchet and
do a deal with one another. And now we've taken
what is that twenty months already or twenty one months.

To try to figure out what we're gonna do.

It's time to figure it out for sure and get
the deal done. But it is kind of cool that
Jordan Speeth is playing this week at the Cognizant, and
I kind of think the reason why is he's hoping
to have a high enough finish so that he can
play next week in bay Hill. And I'm pretty sure
his status is pretty well set for the players. We'll
have to see if he's there or not. So he's

coming back from that injury.

So those two tournaments in between the Players Championship and
then the VLEL Texts Open is the Valspar Championship that's
in Tampa and yeah, yeah, at Palm Harbor, Florida at
the copper Head Course and in there, and then the
Texas Children's Houston Open, which is at in Houston, Texas,
the Memorial Park golf Course. So that's between March twentieth

through March thirtieth, So I would assume that's probably when
we get the when we get the announcement, all.

Right, Yeah, and I just looked up something here to
confirm this. He does need try to figure out what
he needs to do to get into next week's bay Hill,
but he needs to finish. He's number sixty seven on
last year's FedEx Cup, and so he needs to play
well this week and see if he can work his

way into Bayhill and the other the other signature events.
