Speaker 1 (00:04):
No show tomorrow. Christmas Day off on Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
We have football at five o'clock on Friday, so we
will have the first responder ball. Thanks to Corey Brooks
for joining us a little while. We'll talk more about
the UTSA game coming up, and we've also got some
other things to get too from the world of the
NFL and the NBA Spurs playing great basketball. But right
now it's time for NFL picks. So I'm kind of
(00:30):
in the same boat as Kansas City and Washington and Dallas.
I really have no chance of winning this thing this year.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Are we only going regular season?
Speaker 1 (00:40):
No, we go all the way through. Okay, yeah, we
will do the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
It's just a separation.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, I mean, I have a chance to catch up
in the playoffs if I pick all opposite of you.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
But is that your strategy, like kind of moving forward.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Well, it's the only strategy I have, even if I
don't think that team's going to win. But anyway, I
am one forty six, ninety three and one seventeen games
behind Shane that won sixty three, seventy six and one.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Good for me.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
As my first year doing it, So I but you
pick it seems like you pick more based on vibes.
I pick based on matchups. It's worked for you in
the past. Yeah, I gotta stop doing it next year
if you want no what the rematch next year?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Get ready, I'm already looking for draft picks for next
year so we can change my luck. All right, let's
just start off with Cowboys and Commanders. I actually think
the Cowboys are gonna win this game because it doesn't
matter and the Commanders are down to their.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Third string or fourth string quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Like, I like Dallas to win this game, and maybe
we'll see some things that are gonna be beneficial to
them and kind of figure out who's gonna play and
who's not gonna play on the roster next year. But
I'll take Dallas to win this game.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Yeah, when you're a Cowboys fan, go ahead and watch
who's playing now and see, like who you think will
be on this roster next year. I think that they
talked about it was coming out that Tyler Guiden they're
starting left tackle. He's going to season in an ir
and Tyler Smith he's gonna be playing left tackle the
rest of the year. So that's so something you want
to watch if your Cowboys fan I also think the
Cowboys win primarily just because, even though I respect Josh
Johnson's le longevity, that offensive line is beat up with
(02:12):
Leedmy Tensil, and honestly, I think this should be a
game that the cowboysh at cakewalk.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
All right, Lions are taking on the Vikings. I actually
think Minnesota is gonna win this game. I don't think
they have much to play for. The Lions are a
team that's kind of has had so many injuries this
year and so much issues happen with them that they're
now on the outside looking in. It's a must win
for them, but I'm gonna take the Vikings with a
home win.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
So you're taking the Vikings even though JJ McCarthy is
going to.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Ir Yeah, well it can't. The next guy can't be any.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Worse, DEBU heard of Max Bronson can't be any worse.
He's been there filling quarterback. I'm taking Detroit just because
they do have something to play for.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
I can appreciate how really since the Cowboys game, the
defense has not looked good, but the offense at the
very least has really started to come around a little bit.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
So I think Detroit wins this game.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
And set's a brilliant match him next week against Green
Bay for that final playoff spot.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
All right, Next up is the Chiefs and the Broncos. Well,
the Chiefs are down to all everybody on the roster
is pretty much not playing. I'm gonna take Denver. They
have to win this game to keep paid for it
New England for the number one seed. That the game
is in Kansas City, but I don't think that's gonna matter,
and I'll go with the Broncos and a relatively easy win.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Do you know who the starting quarterback will be for
Kansas City in this game?
Speaker 1 (03:28):
I saw it a minute ago, but I didn't We
didn't resonate.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
You should be a familiar name for you if you've
covered UTSA as long as you have.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
Chris Alutkom, the former quarterback from South Florida.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Well, yeah, I guess he played for them two years ago, right.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
The last time he played would have been twenty nineteen.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
UTSA Never UTSA played South Florida in twenty three and
twenty five. Okay, so I don't recall him ever played
for against either way.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Yeah, like Kansas City's beat up and unfortunately the best
players they have left are old, and Denver right now
is like one of the better teams in the NFL,
and the week length of the Broncos offense is the
conundrum that is bone Nicks if he's gonna play well
or not. I think against the Kansas City defense that
they have right now, he should. I think Denver wins
has won pretty easily.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Yeah, I don't think it's much of a game. All right,
Let's get to Texans and Chargers. I really hope Houston
wins this game. I want them to catch Jacksonville, although
I don't think they are now with Jacksonville winning last
week in Denver. But I just don't see them beating
the Chargers. I think the Chargers are better. The Chargers
are gonna probably score around twenty five points even against
(04:33):
that good doll Houston defense, and I don't think the
Texans can catch up. I still think the Texans make
the playoffs as a seventh seed, but their inability to
score when you need to and have dynamic players on offense,
guess what's going to shorten their season.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
So I'm gonna go with LA in this one.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
I also like LA, but primarily because if you're a
Texans fan you've seen the last two weeks against the
Cardinals and against the Raiders, giving up a combined forty
one points those offenses. And now you're on the Ruegas,
that artist team, which is one of the highest teams
in the NFL, A team that's already I think security
a playoffs spot. I think the Texans also make the playoffs,
but mostly because Indy's playing Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
We'll get to them in a second.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
So you got the Chargers. I got the Chargers, all right,
We're okay with that one. All right, let's go Ravens
and Packers. Well again, I think Baltimore, which was the
team that I picked to go all the way this
season in the AFC, too many injuries, especially early in
the year, and I think it's even though the competitive
(05:31):
nature of Lamar Jackson and Henry and those guys will
be tested.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
I think the.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I think the Packers win this game. It's in Green Bay.
It was interesting last week in the Ravens game. After
Derrick Henry scored for them to take the lead, he
never touched of all the rest of the game. I
don't know what they're resting him for, but apparently it's
probably better off for this team to have him and
everybody else come back healthy.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
I think the.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Packers are going to win to keep their playoffs hopeful alive.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
My reservation about this game is that Jordan Love is
still in concussion protocol and he's been limited the last
couple of days at Packers camp. And the thing about
the Packers is is that they're unfortunately a position to
where they're going to struggle. They struggled last week against
the Bears, and they're playing against a desperate Baltimore team.
I like the Baltimore Ravens in an upset in Lambeau,
primarily because I don't know how healthy the offense is
(06:21):
going to be against a again a crappy Baltimore defense.
But I think at the very least Baltimore can run
on this Packers front.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Session Steelers are taking on the Browns, and I gotta
believe that the Steelers, as well as they're playing right now,
are not gonna wet the bed when they go to Cleveland.
Cleveland needs to lose to get closer to the to
the first pick. Anyway, I'm going with the Steelers a
road win in Cleveland and they'll solidify themselves as the
NFC North champion.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
This kind of feels like a game honestly that Pittsburgh
los is just like because then they shouldn't well, not
just because they shouldn't, but because their position to win
the division outright if the Ravens lose to the Packers
the day before. Cleveland right now is like it is
a bit of a conundrum team to where they are.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
They played decently on offense. Shador has done good job
of getting the ball downfield, but he's.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Also taking too many sacks and has too many turnovers
up to this point, so he's kind of playing for
that second chance going into next year, depending on what
Cleveland does with its two first round picks. I think
Pittsburgh does win this game, but I think it's by
less than a field goal, maybe a two or one
point victory.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Patriots are taking on the Jets. The Jets are a
complete dumpster fire. Even when they played well this year,
they find ways to lose. And I got the Patriots
and a landslide win in this game.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
This is not gonna be close.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Yeah, and poor Justin Fields has going on in season
in an ir and that's probably gonna end his time.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
In New York.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
He was doomed from the start because he never really
had an offensive cornet that could develop his talents.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
And unfortunately for them, they're playing New England, which which
still has something to play for.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
If they were at that point where they were a
seed that they couldn't move out of, maybe you see
the back of us play, maybe pick the Jets, But no,
you take the Patriots all day.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
In this one, Saints are taking on the Titans.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
I am not convinced that the Saints are as good
as they've been in their wins. I think there are
one of the bottom five teams in the league. Tennessee
is improving. I'm not sure cam Ward's the quarterback of
the future, but he's gonna be the quarterback for now
and into next year until he either gets better or
bus Titans are at home.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
I'll take the Titans with a home win. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
The thing I'm gonna get credible credits due Tyler Schuck,
a guy that Red Riders fans don't like.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
He says he become the starter.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
They won three in a row against the Bucks in Tampa,
against the Panthers, a playoff team right now, and the Jets. Obviously,
the Jets are bray Lowly the Titans right now, if
you look at the way that Cam Worre has played
last couple of weeks, he's playing more like a number
one pick. They're at home as well. The thing is,
though New Orleans has been playing a lot better on defense.
I like the Saints on the road.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Saints on the road. All right, that's the third game
we disagree on. All right, Let's go to Jaguars and Colts.
The Colts are a shallow what they were a month
and a half ago. I thought they were the best
team in the in the AFC when everybody was healthy
and Jonathan Taylor was running the ball. Daniel Jones is
having a breakout year. I like the fact that Philip
(09:02):
Rivers can still.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Play, but it's not enough.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
And even though the Colts are at home, I think
Jacksonville is on another level right now. I'm not a
big fan of Jacksonville, except for the fact that Josh
Stephez is still in their practice squad.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
I think.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
But I'm going to take Jacksonville going in Indianapolis and
ending the Colts season.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Yeah, because of the Colts, who's that game? They are
out of the playoffs, and the Texans would solidify.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
The final playoffs, but that's not occupied currently by the
NFC Nord champion. I also like the Jags, and I'm
not going to get too much into this game, but
it's just that this is an example of a team
that starts off strong and an injury just to rail
what could have been a really promising season.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Buccaneers, they're taking on the Dolphins, and I've been on
the Baker Mayfield bandwagon all year long, and I don't
think it's his fault. I just think they've sustained way
too many injuries to too many key players, and I
don't know that they've lost games the last few weeks
that they shouldn't. This is another game they should win,
but they're on this downward spiral, and my thought is
(09:57):
this Carolina is gonna end up winning the division. Got
the Dolphins with a home win against Tampa Bay.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Yeah. The thing is that the Bucks are one and
six in their last seven games, but the Dolphins, after
going five and one falling their losing streak, are back
on another losing streak after getting blown out last week
gainst the Bengals, So something's got to give here. I
also like, I'm just kidding. I like the Bucks in
an upset on this one. I think what matters in
this one is that, like I think the Dolphins are
a little more beat up. I think, if nothing else,
(10:26):
this is a Bucks team that can throw the ball
on this really bad Miami secondary, especially this late in
the season. And that sets up a de facto NFC
South Championship game next week between the Bucks and the Panthers.
But I got the Bucks in an upset in well.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
It also sets it up because it's gonna go to
the next game and I've got Seattle going into Carolina
and upsetting the Panthers or beating the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
I have looked at the line to see who's favorite.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
A seven point favorite for Seattle.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Or Seattle even on the road, so that the Panthers
are a home dog at seven. I still like the Seahawks.
They're playing great, they want to keep the they want
to maintain that spot over the Rams. I still think
it's gonna come down to the Seahawks and the Rams.
Maybe if they if the brackets work out for them
to meet in the in the championship game. But I'm
(11:10):
gonna go with Seattle winning on the road to Carolina.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
To be fair, Carolina was also a home dog against
the Rams, and they took care of business against them
as well. But you know in this game, when you
saw last week Seattle got that win against the Rams,
obviously there was some sort of anomaly with that two
point conversion that that was in fact a two point
conversion and then you had the overtime play. Otherwise Seattle
really didn't look good in that game. Carolina has one
(11:33):
of the best trench play in terms of offense and
defensive line combos in the NFL, and while Seattle has
improved in that way, I like Carolina at home as
an upset to run the ball on this team, I think,
if nothing else, I think Bryce you can find his
receivers in those.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Open, quick routes.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
And while Seattle is gonna go into the playoffs potentially
the number one see if things finish out the way
they are, this will be a dangerous team.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
But I like the Panthers at home Bengals and Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Since that he has said home, Joe Burrow getting a
few more reps before the season comes to an end.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
I like him.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
I think he's I think what healthy, He's as good
as any quarterback in the league. I'm not gonna say
he's the best, because Mahomes is good and so is
Allen and I think Drake May is up and coming,
and Herbert's having a great year. But I like Joe
Burrow and the Bengals to win at home against the
team that's got to make a decision on what it's
going to do with Kyler Murray in the offseason.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Yeah, right now, the Bengals right now, them and Joe
Burrow and those guys on that offensive are playing right
now for contract stipulations, because if you get a certain
amount of yards of it for certain players, you get
at bonus money.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
And right now that's what's at stake.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
And against an Arizona team which was solid I thought
defensively to start the season, despite the losing streak, because
they kept them within a touchdown. They have fallen apart
since since they blew out since they blew out the Cows,
and yes, that ten point loss was in fact a blowout.
I also like the Bengals, but I like them by
double digits.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Raiders are hosting the Giants, another bad team playing another
bad team, and the Giants have to travel fair across
the country to play this game, which is never a
good thing. But as bad as both of these teams
are playing, the Raiders showed a little bit of life
against Houston last week, so I'm gonna go with Ashton
Genty and the Raiders for a home win in Vegas.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Yeah, Ashton GenZ had a breakout game against Surprisingly the
Texans defense, which is considered one of the best units
in the NFL. New York if nothing else, still has
a really good pass rush on their side, but the
quarterbacks beat up.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
The offensive line is still bad, their weapons are hurt.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
They can't really put points up, even against a Vegas
defense which allowed the most points I think all season
per game. I also like Vegas in this win, even
though brock Bauers unfortunately did go season end and I
are and I think we're starting to see that. I
think we're starting to see Ashton Genzy become who's supposed.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
To be Eagles and Bills in Buffalo. The Bills need
to keep winning. I think the Eagles are still in
a little bit of a free fall. They're gonna win
the NFC East by default because they won it. Yeahah,
they're already in I mean, they can lose the rest
of their games. They have won the NFC East by
default because the other three teams have been eliminated.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
But I think the Bills.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Win at home, and the Eagles are probably gonna end
up being the fourth seed. Before it's all over, they
can still be the third. But I got the Bills
winning this game.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
The thing is the Bills and allly at four and
o five. They've won five of their last six games.
They're one of the best teams in the NFL over
the over the past two months.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
They're averaging almost thirty points a game in the last
four weeks. This I told you. I told this to Puma.
I told this to you now.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
When you get to the playoffs, don't always pick the
team with the best record. Pick the team that's been
there before, the most experienced team. Right now, the Bills
are not only dangerous even though they'll likely be a
wild car because think the Patriots are going to secure
the AFC East, they might be the best team in
the AFC playoffs come the final week of the season.
They win this game because Philadelphia got to win last
week against a bad washing team that really they should
have bown out. It was closed than the score indicated,
(14:47):
and I think the Bills blow out the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
All right, here's the one that I'm gonna go on
a limb with. The Bears are at the forty nine ers.
Give me the Caleb Williams Chicago Bears in this game. Okay,
I am not picking the four nine ers. There's still
a team I'm not I don't believe in. I think
brought Perty's average at best, average average, h at best,
he's over achieved. Christian McCaffrey's pretty good. But I'm gonna
(15:12):
go with a Bears win and another coming out party
for Caleb Williams.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
He said, Brock is just a party boy, like the
I like the gutsy ness of that call in Dye.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
But I'm gonna take San Francisco at home because, unlike
the Colts, unlike Washington, Unlike a lot of teams that
have sustained a lot of injuries this year to keep players,
San Francisco, because of really good coaching from Shanahan and
Roberts all on defense, have done a good job of
overcoming them and putting players in position to succeed. I
think San Francisco only wins this game. We need to
watch the final week of the season because San Francisco
(15:42):
was still live for the.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Number one seed and the NFC West Crown.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
Right now they're the sixth seed, but they, similar to
the Bills, could be the most dangerous wild card team
going into the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
All right, Final game Monday night, Rams and Falcons. I
will never pick the Falcons ever. Their ownership is terrible,
They're coaching is terrible, their players are terrible.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
They never give the ball to Bjean Robbins.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Lot of Bjon. They just can't do anything besides that.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Well, every time I pick them, they lose, and I'm
not picking him now because I think the Rams are
gonna are gonna win big. I got la as they
try to ascend up the chain to get a better
seed than they have right now, and they too could
get the number one seed if they keep winning out.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Yeah, I don't know if you're gonna pick Atlanta because
you knew I was gonna pick the Rams just so
you could get back in.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
The race a little bit.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
You say, what the Rams is though, is they played
the Falcons this week and then up the Cardinals finish
out the season, So you're right, they have plenty to
play for right now to the fifth seed. They had
the easiest schedule remaining compared to San Francisco and Seattle,
and they're still a love for the number one seed.
Matt Stafford right now, I think have solidified himself as
the league MVP, and I think his time in LA
has really showing how underrated he really was in Detroit.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
And the Rams.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
Should not only blow out the Falcons, watch out because
I think that we might see a NFC West matchup
in the Robs Championship, including this Rams team.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
All Right, those are our picks.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
We disagree on five games, so I have a chance
to get to within ten if I win everything else.
All Right, we'll get to Dak Prescott's thoughts on next year.
Next it's the Andy Everage Show on the ticket
