Speaker 1 (00:03):
Here were going down our number two of the program,
and welcome to it. I'm Andy Everett, our audio disseminators today,
Shane Carter, and the producer of the show, Michael Bartlett.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Thank you for spending your afternoon with us.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
We'll talk more about a big game tonight in Dallas,
is the Lakers take on the MAVs. We've got some
NBA and Major League Baseball news to share, and more
on the Denver nugget Nick Denver Nuggets fall out.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
No one is safe there. We'll talk about that.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
We talked you heard from Steve car a little while ago,
and we've got our master's picks coming up here in
just a little bit as well. I'm looking at the
American Airlines Arena in Dallas. They're the AAA or the
AAC AAC okay, America America Airlines Center is in Dallas,
and the arena is in Miami, or it used to be.

(00:48):
I think it's something else. Now, what the heck do
Miami's changed his thing, but I think to something else.
But anyway, well, to get our master's picks come up.
But that court is terrible. It's like a great court.
I guess that's gray.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Is that gray.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yeah, it's because I'm assuming they're probably gonna wear like
what they call they just get a regular court. David
Stern's having another heart attack right now. Just David Stern
would cringe at everything that the NPAs about these days.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
So do you not like the Spurs City edition court?
I know, And I don't like the city edition jerseys either.
I like the white, and I like the silver, and
occasionally I'm okay with the gray or the silver, and
I'm okay with the camouflage.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
The rest of them I don't need.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah, yeah, I still think it's weird when I hear
Bill Uh say that, Yeah, they're wearing their city edition jerseys,
you know, the uh, the ones that have a little
crystal blue in it. I'm like, just like the word
crystal blue and Spurs jerseys don't.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
No, I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
It's you need to keep you need to keep the tradition.
I'm a was it.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
A traditionalist or a purest purist?

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
I've acquiesced in some areas, you know, like the d
H and baseball yeah uh and and a few things.
But I still I still don't like the fact when
the home team wears their road uniforms. And the other
night I saw a game I can't remember who was playing,
but one team was wearing red, one team was wearing blue.
Now I can see those two colors, that's fine. If
if it was if it was red and green, that'd

(02:16):
be a problem. Absolutely. But but but I don't mind.
I don't have a problem seeing the colors. I just
don't think it's a good look. I wish the Lakers
would wear their there's they're golden the home more often,
and I wish they would wear a purple or whatever
on the road. But I think that when you turn
on a game in Los Angeles with the Lakers, you

(02:36):
should see the gold uniforms.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
So do you not like when they do the retro
throwbacks with the Minneapolis.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
No, because they have not, because they have nothing.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
The only thing that the LA and Minneapolis have in
common is they didn't change the name when they went
from Minneapolis the land of ten thousand Lakes to LA.
The Lakers is because of the ten thousand Lakes in Minnesota.
They never changed their name when they went. Other than
that thing, got they've got nothing in common with Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
I was like, and there's, yeah, Oh that's why they're
called the Lakes.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah, and and they then now have another team in
Minnesota that they don't need to have any reference to.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Okay, yeah, that makes sense. I will say the one
throwback that I do like seeing. I do like seeing
when the Grizzlies rock the Vancouver Grizzlies jerseys. I think
those are pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Okay, maybe you're paying homage to a city that's four
thousand miles away from you.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I don't I don't like the uh.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
I guess it's a different shade of green that the
Celtics sometimes wear.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah, I don't just go back to the original colors.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
I mean I don't like that the that there's alternate
Knicks jerseys that's green, and I'm like, well, like I
saw one last night with that game with the Knicks
and the Celtics, and i saw some kid in the
in the crown and I'm like, he's wearing a Knix jersey.
But it's because it's like I guess they played on
like Saint Patrick's Day or something, and it's green.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
I'm like, dude, that just doesn't look see see like
UTSA this past year had the alternate black uniforms that
j T Clark co designed and that was great for
that one game, and then we wore them the rest
of the season at home and of the ball game.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
They were undefeated in them.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
So but they would have also been undefeated because they
were playing at home and they were way better than
Coastal Carolina in the ballgame. I don't mind a one
off but or or a you know like sometimes h
the WNBA, they'll wear pink uniforms and they'll auction them off. Yeah,
I'm fine with all of that. That that's cool, but
because it's for a cause. But stick to your tradition

(04:35):
and stick to your color.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Like what was it a couple of years ago, remember
the Florida Gators were going to do like black jerseys
for the air Force or something, and it had it
was just the black jersey.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
It had.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
There was nothing on there whatsoever that was supposed to
represent the armed forces or something.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
But I understand, I understand why we're doing it. And
I'll use the Jeff Trailer line for this. It's not
about us all. It's about the kids, and it's about
the players. So they can do whatever they want.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Well unless you're unless you're Texas, then you know you
can check those. You can go create your own, uh
where we've been here longer than you.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Well here, it's like the Yankees.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
The Yankees where the uh the black or the or
the midnight blue uh jersey on spring training games and
they'll have the white hat with the black pin stripes
in spring training games. But once they play, except for
the two nights, they do the city edition in August
because every team now has the city thing because they

(05:35):
can sell more stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
They Other than that, they never put they never degrade
the uniform. They always wear the grays on the road,
and they always wear the pin stripes at home except
for two days a year.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Yeah, I mean, look at the Astros. I want to
see the Ashers will probably change that design and logo
like five times.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
And the since I recall uh but uh, the Dodgers
a couple of years ago, I guess they may still
do this. They came out in all blue uniforms, pants
and blue tops.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
But at least that's part of their colors.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
But it just doesn't look good.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
I know it doesn't look but at least it's part
of their colors.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
I mean, looks like a softball game.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
If the Dodgers are going to roll out.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
And like, and I'm not talking about a colleague softball game.
I'm talking like a slow pitch, old man softball game.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
At least they're adhering to the colors. That's that's my
biggest thing. Like if if your Sooners just for whatever reason,
decided to roll out and just like all black.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Uniforms, You're like, well they have and I don't like them.
Now they had the black, the black jerseys and the
and the white pants. Then they have the crimson on
crimson and and they lost, and they lost. I think
they're one in five in those So like, can we
please burn those crimson cream at home and all cream
on the road.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
That's what you do.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
You want to change the helmet once in a while
to throw back to the fifties or something, fine, but
leave the uniform alone.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
All right.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
I got on a tangent for seven minutes on that rant.
All right, let's talk about the NFL draft. It looks
like cam Ward is the consensus number one in Tennessee's
gonna draft him. Uh, they'll they'll play this out for
two weeks and they'll make the official announcement when the
draft begins. But cam Ward's gonna be Tennessee's quarterback, and
he probably will start from day one. What's after that
is what Cleveland's gonna do. And Cleveland's got a lot

(07:22):
of choices. I think they're gonna they're gonna take Travis
Hunter because Travis Hunter can play both wide receiver and cornerback.
At least early in his career, he'll be something that
fans want to go see because he's kind of a
different type player going on both sides of the ball.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
And you can sell tickets to come watch Travis Hunter play.
And I think that's part of the thing that the
the Browns have to do. If I'm the Browns, I
try to go sign Joe Flacco or you know, uh
some some free yeah, trade for somebody, Go find somebody
on somebody's bench that can just hold me over for
a year. You're not beating Pittsburgh, Baltimore, or Cincinnati this

(08:04):
year anyway, So just get that out of your mind.
You're at best a six win team, maybe four would
be even a better place for you to get to.
If you don't think should or Sanders can lead you
to beating those three teams within two or three years,
it's time to wait until you find somebody that can.
So if I'm Cleveland, I would probably go with Travis Hunter.

(08:24):
The Giants with the third pick then have to decide
the same thing about should or Sanders do we want
him or do we wait and let him maybe let
somebody else have him.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
To me.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
If I'm the Giants, I make sure my defense is
as good as it can be, and that's where I
think Abduall Carter would fit in because I hate to
compare anybody to Lawrence Taylor, and there may never be
anybody that's Lawrence Taylor. But Lawrence Taylor created the edge
rusher position, the linebacker that blits almost all the time,
and got to quarterbacks, and Abduall Carter's the best at that.

(08:58):
Then New England would pick fourth. They're not going to
take a quarterback. They have to go the second best receiver,
which is probably I think McMillan from Arizona State would
probably be in that mix. I would say he's actually
the best receiver. I think he's better than Travis Hunter.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah, because I don't consider Travis Hunter necessarily.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
I think he's an athlete. Travis Hunt, he's an athlete.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
But if you look at the draft boards, Ted McMillan
is listed as the number.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
One wide receiver and then Jacksonville drafts at number five
and their organizations in shambles, So who knows what they're
going to mess up this year.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
So again with Tennessee, yeah, I think everybody knows that
it's gonna be cam Ward. And if they don't take
cam Ward then they're just I don't know what they're doing.
Maybe at that point, maybe they do try to go
and get Matt Ryan if nothing else. But at Cleveland,
I understand what you're saying, you can't take an edge rusher,

(09:53):
but in the division that they are in, it wouldn't
hurt them to have too. You could say, to elite
even though he's never played a snap in the NFL yet,
but to elite edge rushers in a division where you're
facing a Joe Burrow, Yes he's not athletic, but he's
a very, very very good quarterback that you need to

(10:17):
get pressure on. You have Lamar Jackson, who's just a
freak of an athlete. How do you contain Lamar Jackson?
Keep him in the pocket, get pressure on him. But
I think with like how you were trying to try
to say what are you doing as the Browns to
try to draw people in At that point, I think

(10:38):
they could go Ashton Genty. They need a running back.
They don't have Nick Chubb. Well, the procup still is
a free agent.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
The problem with them going Ashton Genty that high up
is if the offensive line is immediately addressed as well,
he's gonna have negative.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yards to way too often.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
But then at that point, to the same argument, what
good would Travis Hunter do if they don't have an
offensive line? What good is Travis Hunter at wide receiver
if your quarterback is always on the.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Ground right, Well, the thought is is Travis Hunter can
play on defense as well, and I still think he's
a better wide receiver than a corner.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
But there's others that disagree with that.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
I think Cleveland's got so many holes to fill that
it's really hard to fire. They can pick anything they want,
but typically to make the fans happy, you want offense,
and to me, I would go after Mason Graham, the
defensive tackle from Michigan. I would consider Michel Williams from Georgia.
I'd go get me a good defensive player before I

(11:35):
would go offense, because you've got to rebuild that team,
and you can spend money now on defense and maybe
you can get a game or two out of Deshaun
Watson if he comes back and plays. My guess is
they're just gonna put him on the physically an active
list and not.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Let him play.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
But I've got to fix the team and it's gonna
this is a four year project for Cleveland to get
to where they need to get to.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Well, the thing that I wonder what Cleveland could possibly
do is maybe say, for instance, like Jacksonville, uh is
you could trade down and maybe go get a couple
of extra players because like you did mention Mikhale Williams,
he is an edge rusher, like like Abdul Carter and
I love both of those those two edge rushers from

(12:19):
Georgia because they absolutely dominated them.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
We're saying with the running game starting to creep back
into offensive game, plans running backs for deady No, No,
That's why I'm saying that. But that means you need
defensive lineman. So if you're if you're gonna guard the run,
the edge rusher is not going to get to the
running back. He's always going to be through the hole. Yeah,
so you need you know, Kansas City's got uh has

(12:43):
has that covered. There's other teams that have that covered. UH,
and the Browns have to address that as well. But
after what the Browns do is going to predicate what
the Giants, Patriots UH in Jacksonville does.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
I think what Cleveland does is really going to dictate
what happened and how. And I don't say this because
I want him to drop, but I think it's going
to dictate how far shaudor Sanders drops. We could have
an Aaron Rodgers situation because he's not going to New York.
He's not going to go to the Giants because the Giants,
remember they signed Jameis Winston and then they also signed

(13:18):
Russell Wilson. They are not going to draft what they
may think is their future quarterback and have him be
holding a clipboard behind those two. Right.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Yeah, you've got to go is going to go further down,
and every team that passes on him maybe making a mistake,
and they may be making the right choice because we
really don't know how good of a pro he's going
to be, and especially early on.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Yeah, and he's not going to go to the Raiders
as well, because when they traded for Gino and then
also gave him the contract extension. Maybe at nine at
two New Orleans, I could see.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
That, Yeah, but I think that would I don't know
that he would bloss him there.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
I don't know if he would blossom there, but I
do know I do think that Derek Carr has clearly,
you know, well it's his time to go. Or maybe
the sleeper in this one could be at eight before them,
the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
They need everything too. Maybe they decide to say, hey, Bryce,
Bryce is not going to cut it.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
You're not it. You played okay towards the end of
the season, but you're not it.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
We need a reset, all right. Coming up next, it's
time for our Masters Picks. Michael and I will pick
three players that we think are going to win this
week and see who wins. And since he won the
Valleiro Texas Open contest with his Jordan Speace selection, who
finished way back in the pack but higher than my
guys did, we'll tell you he'll get first pick. Next,
it's the Andy Everage Show.
