Speaker 1 (00:04):
Are the Spurs the best team in the NBA right now?
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (00:07):
And I think the answer is unequivocally yes, unequivocally. I
don't think there's anybody playing better than they are.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
No, No, No, the seven seven in a row.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
You're also start at the year two to zero against
the defendant champs, which I don't know when the last
time was they defendant champs started off zero to two
against an opponent.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
But they still have two more times to play them.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
They have one more on Christmas, and they have one
more in February.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Think they play actually two more. I saw Sean and
talking last night that they played five times total.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Did I miss this one?
Speaker 1 (00:33):
This is Game three that they played. I think that I.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Look double tea look look on the Spurs calendar on
the wall, and tell me how many times they play
the Thunder.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
I think they played the Thunder twice between in once
in January and once in February.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Okay, well, double T's going to research that for us.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
I agree that I think that the best team in basketball,
not just because we're biased obviously, you and I both
Spurs fans, but in terms of like a team that's
as deep as they are.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
They can go twelve deep.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
A team that is is is efficient on offense, locks
down defense. They have guys that can steal the ball
and block shots. Multiple guys. By the way, you know,
Luke Cornette also averages about a block and a half
a game, so he and Wimby are combining for almost
six blocks combined per game on average. This is one
of the most dangerous teams like coming into the playoffs.
And I'm saying playoffs now obviously early. Don't be surprised
if when we get closer and closer that the Spurs
(01:18):
are pushing for that number one overall pick seed.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
They play on January thirteenth, right tim.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yes, sir, one time in January and one time in February.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Okay, so the January thirteenth, then they got a February
game coming up right after the Rodeo road trip on
February fourth.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Okay, well that missed.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, I think they're playing really good basketball. It is.
I had somebody talking to me today that it's from
Oklahoma and a big Thunder fan, and I said, I
wouldn't put a lot of stock into the regular season.
Let's see what happens if these two teams play each
other in the playoffs. Likely they will at some point
play each other if they both get to However it
works out, you're either going to play them in the
(01:54):
semifinals or finals. If the Spurs finishes the number two
seed or number one seed, they're going to play each other,
you know, later rather than earlier, and I think it
would be an epic seven game series. Both these teams
are really really good. But I think the Spurs are now.
I don't think they need to make any trades. I
don't think they have to have any I don't I
(02:15):
don't think there's a team out there right now that's
better than them. There's some that are equal to them,
and now they just have to stay healthy and do
this for the next thing, you know, six months or so.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I think the question needs to go from if the
Spurs are the best team in basketball, because it just
right now they are.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
The question needs to be that, assuming.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
The Spurs and the thunder Bow finished in the top
two seeds, is there anyone in the West that can
compete with them besides each other?
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Like, does anyone that matches.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
I think on certain nights Denver can and I think
Minnesota is when Anthony Edwards plays is a threat.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
I think if they can make their shots.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
The Rockets have struggled this year a lot more than
they have last year, right And I think a lot
of that is because fred Van Fleet is hurt and
the point guard situation is kind of not what it was.
And I don't think the Lakers are going to continue
to play at the rate that they are. They are there.
I watch them play, and other than you know, Lucas
Luca and Bryant Reeves is better than I think I
(03:10):
thought anybody ever thought he would be. But Lebron's slowing down.
You can see Lebron's not moving, especially defensively. He's not
closing out at the same speed that he once did.
Uh And and so I'm not concerned about playing the
Lakers in a seven game series or you know, or
in a playing game with if not that the Spurs
would be in one. But as they say, fall further down.
(03:32):
I think there's right now five teams in the West,
and it's UH Oklahoma City in the Spurs one and
two or two and one, and then Denver and Minnesota
and and UH in Houston.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
A wild card team I will throw out there that
I think could compete with the Spurs because they have
all year Phoenix Suns. They beat you both times that
you play them. They know how to like because watch
it's a difficult match if you watch them play that game.
One thing that they did a really really good job
of boys is they they can to win be away
from the paint. They force a lot more outside shots,
more than the Spurs are comfortable with, because you know,
the Spurs are very much a movement type of team,
(04:08):
but when you force them to only play on the outside,
that limits the offense. On the Sun's side, they were raising,
they were making the shots, and that is a team
that relies on the three point shot, and they were
doing a good job of making those. That's a team
you want to watch out for because if you're a
team that knows they can beat them. Similar to other Spurs,
now they could beat the Thunder.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
That makes them dangerous.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yeah, and I think in the East, I think New
York and Detroit are the two best teams. Detroit's got
the best record right now, but I'm not so sure
that New York isn't better.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Do we think Cleveland's still a threat?
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I know they're kind of They're okay. I think they'll
be in the in the mix. It don't seem as
good as they did last year. No, I think they're
having a little bit of a hangover from that.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I'm a little surprised. I will, well, the Raptors have done.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
I mean it's they've done a good job in terms
of talent evaluation, because they've done a good job of
like getting guys that can play they normally like third
or four fills and other teams that become starters on them.
You know, I'm a big fan of Scotty Barnes, but
that's still like the unfortunate part about the East is
that each year there's gonna be one, maybe two true
contenders in that in the in that conference. In the West,
(05:06):
it's usually gonna go four, five, six deep. And that's
not even biased.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
That's his reality.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
I didn't think Indiana was going to take you know
that the thunder and seven games last year, but it
turned out they turned out that they did. All right.
We'll talk about the NFL a little bit more and
their encroachment on a New Year's or Christmas Day and
