Speaker 1 (00:05):
Game three to night of the WNBA Finals between the
Aces and the Mercury takes place in Phoenix. That'll get
underway in about an hour and ten minutes or so.
It's too bad. I think that this game and these games,
which have been very good, are kind of sandwiched in
between football games and the baseball playoffs. And I've made
(00:28):
a comment a few weeks ago, and I'm going to
stick with this until they actually come to the laws
of common sense and at least try it. I really
think the WNBA needs to become a winter league. I
think we're in basketball mode in the winter, and I
don't think there's any reason why they can't start the
season in January and end it in July. And I
(00:51):
don't think one of the things will be interesting. The
players in the WNBA right now currently make nine percent
of the gross revenue, which is really low, but there's
so many expenses to running the league, and the expenses
are not at a level to where they can afford
to give a whole lot more. I would hope that
the WNBA can get to twenty seven percent of gross revenue.
(01:13):
That would triple what they're going to get, what the
players would get I don't know if that's enough for
the diehards, the especially Angel Reeves, who thinks they should
be making over fifty. I don't think they're ever going
to get anywhere close to fifty, But if they could
get somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty seven to thirty percent,
I think that would be a start for the next
three to six to five or seven years whatever it
(01:35):
is that they want to extend this out. But that way,
you're not competing against really anything set maybe the All
Star Game. In fact, if you did it before the
fourth of July, maybe fourth of July weekend, it's when
you have the the WNBA Finals. I think your players
would be more rested by playing three games a week
(01:56):
from January to April. You can play six plus games
if you wanted to. Then you could have your playoffs
in between NBA playoff games in late May and June,
and you could have your finals in July and the
draft that you have. The draft would take place in
August every year, three or four months after the college
season ends. I think it's really unfair for a lot
(02:19):
of rookies out there to go from their college season
to March Madness. To the to the draft, and to
their training camps in a three or four week period.
I don't think that's that's enough time. I can't imagine
that Kathy Engelbert is going to be around a lot longer.
And the Officia Collier meeting has still been canceled. She
says she's gonna do better. I just don't know that
(02:40):
that bridge can be unburned right now. And it's kind
of sad because these are some really good games, but
most of us are watching baseball.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
And also, don't forget the w NBA All Star Game
is about halfway through the season, So if it landed
in January through through through June, we're talking about the
All Star Game potentially landing right at the end of
or at least like around the start of uh of
the Final four, right where basketball's as apex right than
the Roban. The NBA has a lot of its highest
viewership is towards the end.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
And play it on a play it on a day
that there's no there's no colleague, or play it right
the week after I mean really only competing then against
the Masters, exactly play it two weeks after, play it
and play it right at the end of the NBA
season and use the promotion from the NBA to make
the w n B A you know, I'll let people
know about it so that they can watch that. All right,
six o'clock hour coming up. It's the indie everage show.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
On the ticket
