Radio Show in three hours. For the next three hours,
it's me and we talk all kinds of things that
have been happening in the last twenty one hours or
(00:41):
so in the world of sports. Thank you so much
for spinning your afternoon with us. Whatever is that.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
You may be. And you know, playoffs sports is really cool.
I don't really care.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
A lot of people think hockey playoff is the best
in FL playoffs, is the best college football playoffs, NBA playoffs,
But man, there is something really cool about baseball playoffs.
When you're in cities where the fans are certainly engaged.
And over the last last week, really we've seen some
amazing baseball games, and none better than last night when
(01:12):
Aaron Judge hits one off the foul pole to give
the U to give the Yankees the tie, and then
Jash Chisholm hits a home run a little bit later,
and we'll talk about that coming up in just a bit.
I mean, do you ever at the audio disseminator and
producer today is Shane Carter. He'sa Ortiz will be along
as well, and let's see Shane. I think the line
(01:34):
of the day comes from Derek Jeter when he said,
I don't know anybody other than Aaron Judge that can
hit one hundred mile an hour fastball aimed at his
neck out of the park. He's the only one on
planet Earth can that can do it, and he did
it well.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
First off, to answer your question, the best postseason is
actually college basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
March Madis is above all just Oh I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
They getting that out of the way.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
First.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
No, I'm not going, yeah, that's that's down that it
used to be maybe but it's not anymore.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
But no, that's the thing is. And you know, I
was very much in on the Jays winning this series,
and they were up six to one through that first
half of the game.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
It was over.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
It was over, yes, and then Aaron Judge had the
turning point. I thought the hero of this game. I
thought the story point was gonna be Vlad Guerrero. He
had a home run, he had that nice drive to
the second and then landing at home with a huge,
like diving leap. I thought he was going to go
for I thoink he was trying to move the for
the cycle in that game. But instead, all Aaron Judge
did was get the bat swinging. And eight unanswered runs
(02:28):
in the postseason is unheard of, especially against the bullpen
as deep as Toronto.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Well, I'm going to talk about this in a little
bit after we visit with Jason Garrett in a few minutes,
but I think the Yankees did something that is Unyankee
like and what they were kind of forced to when
they were down six to one, and that was to
get people on base. And yes, the home run tied
the game and Chisholm's home run won the game, but
they played a little bit I won't say small ball,
(02:52):
but they played small her ball than they have.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
At any point during this season. So we'll talk about that.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
All the other games are getting underway, were about to
get underway, Seattle trying to wrap up in series with
Detroit with a three to two lead the last time
I looked. We'll update that here in just a little while.
There's a lot of talk today about the Cardinals coach
Jonathan Gannon, who got fined one hundred thousand dollars for
his spat with running back de Marcado for the for
(03:21):
the Cardinals, and I'm gonna take a little bit different approach.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
I don't think you should hit people.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
I mean, I think we've gotten to a place in
the world where physical contact is.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Not allowed.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
But I do think that that running back needed to
be undressed in front of the world. And I guarantee
you he'll never do it again. And the more undressing
the Cardinals did, the more last lesson he'll learn. Uh
and maybe he gets back in the end zone because
guess what they don't. They don't have much running back
to depth in Arizona right now with all the injuries
that they have, So we'll get into that.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
I find it, you.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Know, I understand frustrations from fans with their football coaches
and their managers and their basketball coaches. But there's two
things going on right now in college football that I
kind of find just somewhat humorous. James Franklin loses a
game to UCLA that they had absolutely no business losing.
(04:18):
And Steve Sarkisian loses to a Florida team that I
told you was going to start playing better because they
had nothing to lose and they had plenty of talent
on that team. But the expectation in Austin and the
expectation and Happy Valley.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Is to never lose. Every loss is magnified.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
And I'm not justifying losing, but I think we've reached
a point in time in college football, especially in the
Power for where it's the NFL every week, and we
never expect an NFL team to go undefeated. The best
teams go fifteen to two. I mean, and we're talking
all time. Great teams still figure out a way to
lose two games during the season. And those are grown
(04:57):
players that are men, that are professionals, the best of
the best, and your college football team has some of
the best college talent in both of those places. In
austin In and Happy Valley. But it's kind of strange
to me where they're like, well, we're thinking about firing
James Franklin, although they won't because of the buyout, but
(05:17):
fans wont him fired because he doesn't go undefeated or
because he loses to a team that he shouldn't have
lost to. And I know it's national championship or bust
for a lot of these boosters and a lot of
these fan bases, but I think it's unrealistic to think
that you're gonna win a national championship just because you're
Penn State, or just because you're Texas, or just because
(05:39):
you're anyone else.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
And it won't surprise me in the.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Least that, if not this year, certainly in future years
we have a national champion with three losses and that's
never ever happened before. So it's kind of strange the
world that we live in, where the expectation is far
greater than what reality now is.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
With all the parody and football Andy.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
I would actually disagree with you on one aspect of it.
I actually get where the fans are coming from both
Penn State because they had they expected a coach were
supposed to take them past Ohio State, pass Michigan into NBA,
compete for these top ten matchups. James Franklin's record a
career at Penn State against the top ten, do you
know what it is?
Speaker 2 (06:17):
It's not good.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
It's four and twenty one. He does not win the games.
And he has no problem beating Minnesota's no problem beating Wisconsin.
It's against these other top teams and in the playoffs
when it matters the most, not counting Boys State, who
without Ashton Jens had no other offense to compete with.
He can't win those games.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
But who what coaches do always win those games? Other
than Nick Sabe And who's not doing it anymore?
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Ryan durs Who Ryan Day?
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah, but he loses to Michigan every year and they
want to, you know, bring him an.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Fich for that he can win the national championship. But
you didn't make Michigan, so you failed.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
That's how ridiculous the fan bases are and Ryan Days.
You know, but at some at some point, it's not
always in I guess it's always the if.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
It's always happening when that guy's in charge.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
But I'll give you an example of both Sark and
Ryan Day. You want them fired, they'll be hired by
your rival.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
In two minutes.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
There will there will be no shortage of time because
a lot of those schools want to be in the
conversation every year, and I think we're in a stage
in life in college football where being in the conversation
is where you want to be. If Penn State runs
the table, they're gonna probably be back in the top ten,
and they're gonna probably be in the College Football playoff,
even though they lost to UCLA. Now the Ucla loss
(07:31):
could hurt them a little bit if it's either or
somebody else. But if they go out and take care
of business and beat everybody else, they're gonna be okay.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
But you're gonna lose.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
We're gonna have some teams in the playoffs, especially when
we go to sixteen, and if we ever go to
twenty four, certainly they have three losses. And that's just
because we're in a parody situation. So I'll get into
more of that coming up in a little bit as well.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Riley Green just in a deep shot in the right field.
Tigers take the lead four to three.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Awesome, all right, we want the Mariners to win.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Why do you want the big name teams to win?
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Well, the Mayor. So the Tigers are a bigger name
than the Mariners, Absolutely they are.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
The Mayors haven't won a playoff game till this year.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Well, the Tigers, I guess won the World Series. What seven?
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah, no, Detroit, it's a bigger markets.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Oh yeah, Well I'd rather go to Seattle anyway.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
So we'll talk about the OU game with Texas this
weekend from the Steve Sarkisian perspective coming up in a
little bit. There is also some other big games in
college football this weekend, some that you may want to
keep an eye on, And if you're a UTSA fan.
After the Rice game this weekend, which we'll touch on
in the six o'clock hour, you also have North Texas
(08:42):
taking on to take it on South Florida. It's the
same South Florida team that beat Boise and beat Florida
and the Florida team that.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Beat Texas, So some interesting things there.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Plus, now that Florida has won a game against an
SEC opponent in Texas, how much bigger is their game
at Kyle Field this weekend? Will be touching on that
here in a little bit as well. We're gonna visit
with JJ Perez in the six o'clock hour tonight. He's
obviously with Inside Road in our Sports and kind of
give you an overview on the first five or six game.
(09:17):
This will be game six coming up this weekend. Hard
to believe that we're already gonna be halfway through the
season come Saturday. The season always flies by quite quickly.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Yeah, flies by, we're having fun. What's that time, flies
are You're having fun?
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yeah, it's always fun when it's a fun time of
the year and I'm in the Jeff trailer camp. I
would like for the season to start mid August or
the third weekend in August. We can go to one
by at some point during the season and have the
national They have the conference championship games on Thanksgiving weekend.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Have the first round of the playoffs on what is.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Now the championship weekend, take a week off for finals
and play, you know, get sixteen down to two, and
play the national championship game on New Year's Day. And
if they want to make it a tradition to play
it in the Rose Bowl every year, that'd be cool too,
or wherever they can get the most money, but I
would like to see that so that we can move forward.
(10:14):
There one other story that we're going to get to,
and I'm trying to figure out how I feel about this,
but there is a bill that it's about to get passed,
or a rule that's about to get passed by Division
two and three next week and will likely be passed
by Division one before November first, where it will allow
college athletes.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
To gamble on professional sports.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Right now, if you're an athlete, if you're an administrator,
if you have a job that says whatever, university of whatever,
you cannot bet on sports. You can go into a
casino and play blackjack or roulette, which the NFL employees
can't do. But if you're an administrator at a college
or you're a player, when this rule changes on November first,
(11:03):
you can go to a sports book and place a
bet on an NFL game. I'm not one hundred percent
sure how I feel about that right now. College football
players and college administrators, I'm not saying they don't do this,
but they're not legally supposed to even play fantasy sports,
especially if they put up money and play unless you
can prove that it's one thousand percent just for fun.
(11:26):
They don't want you to play in They want you
betting on your fantasy teams.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
That is taboo as well.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
So we'll talk about that coming up here in a
little bit too, and see what.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Our thoughts are on that.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
I'm trying to figure out which way I'm going to
go with this, because I can see it from both
sides that it could be harmless, but it could get
a lot of people who are getting a lot of
in IL money that think, wow, I can double this
in ILL money if I'm successful betting on football games
on Sundays, and that's where they could get into some
big time trouble.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
All right, let's get into all of that.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Baseball will keep you up to date on what's going
on there, the Jonathan Gannon story, our NFL picks with
me and Shane coming up in a little while. We'll
get to the James Franklin story, the NCAA athletes getting
the gamble. We'll hear from Sark and we'll talk to
JJ and some other college football matchups. Joe Flacco is
going to start for the Bengals on Sunday. It's a
big sports day, and we'll continue with our conversation.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
With doctor Jason Garrett. Next, it's the Andy Everage Show.
