Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is awesome B ninety three Awesome Sauce. Start your
day on a positive note. Awesome Sauce right around six
ten weekday mornings with the B ninety three Morning Show.
We're just like a couple of minutes late today, but
I promise it's worth it. This morning's Awesome Sauce is
about survival, loyalty, and well, you know me, the kind
(00:20):
of bond that you can only find between a person
and their dog. Earlier this month, Jacob Jake Schmidt was
exploring Utah's you into mountains with his dog Buddy when
his side by side vehicle lost control and he rolled
fifteen to twenty times down the mountain side. That's like
worst case scenario. Jake was thrown from the vehicle and
(00:43):
seriously injured. Broken leg, fractured ankles, cracked ribs. I mean
just he was beat up in this thing. He had
no phone. Obviously, when you go careening down a mountain side,
your stuff goes fly in all the places. He had
no flashlight. He just had buddies collar light glowing in
the dark. Oh nice. Yeah, So Jake did what he
(01:06):
could do. He splinted his leg using parts from the
wreck and then crawled and crawled, and crawled and crawled
for eleven hours through the night, in pain that he
describes as nearly unbearable. But Buddy was right by his
side the entire time. By sunrise, Jake had reached his
(01:28):
truck and drove himself to a nearby diner, where he
asked a staff member to call nine one one WHOA.
He was rushed to the hospital. Buddy was taken in
and cared for by the local fire department until Jake's
family could get there. When the two reunited in the hospital,
who total tear jerker? Oh I bet? Jake later said
he thought about giving up, but he knew it came
(01:49):
down to one choice. Either I die here or I
figure out how to keep going, and he did with
a four legged flashlight yeah, his best friend and survival
partner right beside him. So today's Awesome Sauce goes out
to Jake for his unbelievable courage, and of course to Buddy. Buddy,
you hero who never left his side, because sometimes heroes
(02:13):
have pause. That's how you start your day on a
positive note. Awesome Sauce six to ten weekday mornings with
