Speaker 1 (00:00):
Some sauce start your day on a positive note. Awesome
Sauce ran around six to ten weekday mornings with the
B ninety three Morning Show. Earlier this month, in North Carolina,
Bonner Herring was doing something totally ordinary. He was working
in his garden and he heard a sound that made
his heart absolutely drop. His dog Strike screaming from the
(00:23):
nearby pond. So immediately he knew that something was really,
really wrong. He ran to the water and saw every
pet owner's worst nightmare. His dog was being dragged underwater
by an eight foot alligator.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Now, most of us would freeze right there or call
for help, right but not Bonner. He grabbed the closest
thing he could find, a rake, and he dove in.
He swam straight towards the alligator and managed to pry
his dog Strike from the alligator's jaws.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
I gotta imagine that sort of adrenaline kicks in and
hearing it from the outside of his perspective, there's no
way I would think to immediately do that, But like
in that moment, like your dog, I imagine some sort
of adrenaline something kicks in and you're just like all.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Right, I got this. That's gotta be it, because I
don't I don't know if I would be able to
find anything in my body that would say, like no,
go towards the thing, the super dangerous thing, like go
towards that.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
We know there's not other super dangerous things, right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Exactly, like Glady exactly. Then as they swam back to
the shore, the alligator resurfaced, showing its full length like
something out of a movie. But Bonner didn't back down.
He made it to land. He got his dog strike
in the car. He rushed him to the vet. The
pup had a broken leg, but he is alive, he's recovering,
(01:43):
and he's getting more love than ever now. Bonner says
he would not recommend anyone do what he did, but
if he had to, he would do it all over
again for his dog strike. The weight of it all
hit later in the vet's waiting room, where a total
stranger had to come up and like comfort him. He
was pretty shaken by the whole experience, but a reminder
(02:06):
that love can make us braver than we have ever imagined,
and sometimes even a garden rake can be a hero sword. Still,
the way wouldn't recommend it But here's to strike Bonner
and the bond that is always worth fighting for human's
best friend.
