Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the B ninety three Morning Show. I'm Ali Mack.
Did you find the video after I told you about
it yesterday?
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Not only Ali Mack? Did I find the video that
you showed me? I ran, I sprinted to the comments
and then watched down a rabbit hole. Therapist walking through it,
friends walking through it? Is this the actual? Like every
every possible thing I could have, I went down that
rabbit hole yesterday.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
I saw the original video a couple weeks ago. Now,
if you haven't seen this, there's a video going around
about a girl who's marrying into a new family and
they pulled a quote unquote prank.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
On her prank family.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Yep, which right there, like marrying into a prank family.
I got to rethink a few things they told the
entire family. They told her that they do the Turkey
Trot every year and they run a ten k, and
she needed to be ready first thing in the morning
on Thanksgiving because they were going out and they were
running this ten k. Some families do that. That's totally cool.
(01:00):
She was game. She trained for this. She bought new
running shoes for this too. She took time out of
her schedule to like make sure that she was in
it to win it with everybody else, so she'd be
able to fit in. It was her first time, like
really spending the entire Thanksgiving weekend with his family and
they are engaged to be married. So she shows up
(01:21):
in full running gear, shoes, leggings, the whole thing, and
the entire family is out on the front porch and
they tell her, just kidding, there's no turkey trot. We
pranked you.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I would be so they went as far as to
make t shirts for too. I would be so angry.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
The brainchild behind this whole prank was her fiance. Her fiance,
he's the one who told her about this. He's the
one who kept it going. Like this was weeks out
of her life that she spent training for this ten k,
Like a five k's a little bit different. Right, three
and a half miles that seems more doable, but like
(02:01):
once you get into like the six seven mile category,
Like she dedicated some time to this so she could
be in it to win it with this family. There
is no turkey trot. They just wanted to see if
she'd fall for it. And now the internet is divided,
which is surprising honestly, but some people are saying, hilarious,
(02:21):
this is so funny. What a welcome to the family.
I would love to marry into a family who are
like practical jokers, like this is such a good vibe.
Other people's are other people are just which is where
I fall. Surprise, surprise. People are like, Nope, too far.
Rethink the marriage, rethink the engagement, rethink the inlaws.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Do you like practical jokes in general? It depends, Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
It depends on what it is something like this.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
No, no, so I'm not a.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Practical joke family. I didn't come from one at all.
I like to joke. You know this about me? I
goofy ninety percent of the day, but never in the
history of ever.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
No, that's not true.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
I aim ninety percent of my intentions is to make
everybody in on the joke is to laugh. I don't
ever laugh intentionally at somebody to their face, or I'm
not trying to take a secret jab at them or
any of that stuff. Every goal that I have with
it with a joke in general, is to make somebody laugh.
(03:30):
So to me, this immediately gives me the Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
This was like one of those uneasy ones. It was
a hard.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Watch because the look on her face immediately when she
realizes it is a she's probably up super early, got
her up even early in the morning to go on
this run, and she's like, no way, and everybody else
thinks it's funny, and she's like, you've got to be
kidding me, and then she has to play it off like,
oh yeah, I'm so sorry.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Everybody else is laughing at me. I can't this is
my I'm trying to like break into this family and
can't be that girl who's like upset.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Would it be different if they had gone hey, like
day of or the day before week off, maybe even hey,
just so you know, we're a turkey trot family. And
then she goes ah, reacts to it, and then immediately
they go, no, we're just kidding.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
That's funny, that's okay. That I think is fair game.
If like you add her to the family group chat
and you're like, is everybody ready for the turkey trot? Yes, yeah,
there you go, and she's like, oh no, this is
a turkey trot family. I better start like training for
this now, and then like five minutes later, they go
just kidding, yeah, just kidding, don't waste your time, but
just gonna be cozy and just like hang out. She
(04:43):
wasted hours of her life on this.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Soon to be husband. And this is the rabbit hole
I went down, is are they still together? Even I
don't know, I went down a rabbit hole, but her
soon to be husband, if they're still together, let her
go for hours during the week and just go train
instead of being like, now, let's go watch TV or
let's spend time together.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Weekly.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
She would get ready and train and do all these
things and he went, yeah, you should, that's a great
I don't know if they did it together or if
he just like she just went and trained, but either way,
that's a lot of wasted time.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
It's a lot of wasted time. So I want to know,
how do you feel about the video? Did you see it?
What do you think like if you have your in
laws ever pulled some type of prank like this on you,
or maybe have you ever pulled some type of prank
on someone who's new to your family.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
The closest thing that I think my family used to
do and I'm the guy I'm so they would do
it to the guys coming into the family, is they
would every the new guy that was coming into our family,
the new in law for Christmas. They would buy them
the same exact flannel and watch their face when they
(05:57):
open it up on Christmas because they'd be the one
gift they got from somebody. Yeah, and it was basically
welcome to the family. But it was like a generic,
not ugly but not great flannel, and everybody else would
be wearing that same exact flannel.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
That's funny, That's what I thought too. That's funny.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
That's the closest thing we ever did to like a prank.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Are you married into a prank family? I don't know
if I'd be able to do that at this point.
I feel like, after two years Yimy and I have
been together, I feel like I know his family pretty
well and they are not a prank family, thank god.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, there's a lot of different things in people's other
like when you marry somebody in their family where you
realize that are different than your own family, and most
of them ninety something percent of them, I feel like
you could get past like you got a you know,
you got that brother in law who's you know, just
that guy where he's always going to say something kind
(06:52):
of offensive and weird, and you just kind of roll
with it.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
That's fine, and it may be a little bit uncomfortable
in that scenario. But what happens when like the entire family,
like every single one of your in laws gets in
on the joke. Yeah, if you saw this video online,
it's the family that convinced this girl she's marrying into
the family first time, that she's spending Thanksgiving weekend with
(07:16):
her fiance's like immediate family, and they convinced her that
they do the turkey trot every single year. They carried
this out for weeks leading up to this, to the
point where she like trained for the ten k bought
new shoes for this, Like she puts some time and
effort into it.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
And they get to the morning of Thanksgiving, they're all
outside on the porch, they're doing a video to like yay,
happy turkey trot, and somebody announces to her. I can't
remember if it was the fiance or if it was
his sister, and they said, just kidding, we're not a
turkey trot family. Welcome to the family.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
It's the sister.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
And everybody laughed, everybody hahas. And she's just standing there
trying to process this information. My heart dropped for her. Yeah,
and my immediate gut reaction was call off the engagement.
Call off the engagement.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
It's it's so hard because I don't cool. Yeah, I
agree with you, I agree with you. It's so hard
to be like call it off right away. But I
don't disagree with you either. I don't want to see
obviously anybody's split up. Nobody does. But you know, now,
like that's the family you're getting into. And if they
if they offend you, they might just say, oh, I
(08:28):
was just joking. God, you're so serious. Well, I'm just kidding.
That's that's the world.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
This was like super offensive to her, But I feel
like it was pretty disrespectful to allow her to train
for this, spend money on this. She bought new shoes.
I mean, she was taking this very seriously because she
thought this is what they do. I want to honor that.
I want to like take part and be you know,
in it to win it with them. And she spent
(08:52):
a lot of time and effort trying to fit in.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Yeah, but I don't feel like I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
I don't think she was offended by this one, but
it shows you how they treat jokes. It shows you
how they treat your feelings in general. This is way
deeper than just this, And maybe it's because I went
down a therapy talk and watched a guy literally dissect
this entire thing.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Okay, so that's what I want to know. That's what
I want to know. Is it deeper than this or
do you feel like this is all just like in
fun and games and welcome to the family, and this
is like a green flag for her? Or is this
like a major red flag where some conversations need to
be have, some boundaries need to be set, and maybe
(09:35):
she starts rethinking.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Well, okay, but if she sets the boundaries now, because
all she did was laugh it off, So at this
point they're thinking, oh, green flag.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
She's great, she can get a joke, she understands it.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
But from the outsider's perspective, it's like, why did you
just allow that?
Speaker 1 (09:50):
It was so uncomfortable to watch it. I can't imagine
being her in that situation where you're like, literally every
single person has kept this up and has been in
on this for a w weeks and like I'm the
only one who's not in on the joke and I'm
not laugh I don't feel like I'm laughing with you, guys.
I feel like I'm being laughed at. H It's a
whole thing. What do you think? Is this like a simple,
(10:12):
harmless prank or is this something that is a little
bit more telling about the family that she's marrying into.
I also, are you married into a prank family?
Speaker 2 (10:22):
I would rather talk politics with the politic uncle or
aunt that always comes in than a prank family. Yes,
and I hate talking politics. I would rather talk politics
than be in a prank family.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Six one six two four two ninety three, ninety three.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
No one in my family dares put their phone down
and walk away. When our entire family gets together, phones
are off limits. They people will take the phone and
hide it, okay, and suddenly somebody will go, where's my phone,
where's my phone? Where's my phone?
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Did you take my phone?
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Where's my phone? Where's my phone? Well? Go, yeah, they
just they'll just all of a sudden for hours, Whose phone?
Whose phone?
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Wait?
Speaker 4 (11:06):
Where did you go? Where'd he go?
Speaker 3 (11:08):
That sounds really stressful.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah, My first question is how does the other How
do the people whose phone you take react to it?
Speaker 4 (11:16):
Everybody just they're like they like they like set it down,
they'll like, you know, they'll get up to do something
or whatever, and they come back. They so they don't
realize it at first.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
And then all of a sudden, it's like, where's my phone?
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (11:29):
Wait, did you take my phone?
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Dad?
Speaker 4 (11:32):
Did you take my phone? Wait? Did you take my phone?
Speaker 5 (11:34):
Did you take my phone?
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Where did my phone?
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Guy?
Speaker 4 (11:36):
And it becomes like the search around the whole house.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Good morning ninety three? Who's this and where are you from?
Speaker 5 (11:42):
Hey? It's Kat in Kentwood.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
What do you think?
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Kat?
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (11:46):
First off, I thought that family was a little cool,
and I hope you know, in fature they don't do that,
they don't continue those actions. But I am more so
like in that family oriented. I do appreciate more of
a family oriented, more honesty. I do feel for that friend.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Do you feel for the girl?
Speaker 5 (12:06):
Yeah? I feel so bad. It's like, you know, I
you know, you're putting in all this effort for the
five k or ten k what have you for family traditions,
and it's just a lot of money wasted. So I
hope that in the future she doesn't face it. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Yeah, And like if they're comfortable at this point to
do something of this caliber to her. I just like,
I'm scared for her. Like what else would come up?
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Yeah, well that was my opinion.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Let me let me ask you this question though.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Would you call out would you say that she needs
to call off the engagement because of it?
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Oh? Sorry, I would personally be open about it. I
know it's hard to give people second chances because it's
fool me one, shame on you, fool on me, or
shame me twice, shame on me.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Mm hm.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
So I'm not sure if this is an ongoing thing
the families for pranks, but I would kind of keep it.
I would honestly talk to the fiance the guy and say, hey,
this was kind of cool in your family's part. I
put in a lot of effort for the five.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
K ten K, but okay, if it happens again.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
I would not participate in other future family events. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Good point.
