Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here are three things you should know, So give us
a couple of minutes before you start calling in your
guesses for what's in the box, because we are also
the one sitting insoer the phones. So if you're calling
right now and we're doing three things, I'm not going
to be able to grab your call. Just a heads up.
I don't think people know that we're the call screeners,
were the producers, were everything in the be Nutty Free studio.
So give us just a second. Three things you should

(00:22):
know today. Home heating bills expected to rise this winter.
Steepest increase for electricity users. They're saying costs could jump
more than ten percent nationwide, even higher in the Midwest,
the South, and the West. Natural gas users will also
see higher bills, they're saying. Propane, though, could see slight savings.
Disney streaming subscribers will see price hikes starting October twenty first,

(00:46):
Disney Plus with ads gonna go up two bucks to
eleven ninety nine a month, The ad free plan jumps
to eighteen ninety nine, and bundles also going up Disney
Plus and Hulu twelve ninety nine. The Disney Plus Hulu
e SPN bundle climbing to the most expensive of it all.
Nineteen ninety nine Old Navy rolling out aipower dressing rooms

(01:09):
that act like a virtual stylist. Shoppers can hang items
on smart racks to instantly see prices, request new sizes,
and get outfit suggestions from a touch screen. Inside the stall,
associates will still be around. They'll get real time alert
so they can go back and get you other items
and stuff like that. The system will also keep a

(01:29):
running total, so you don't have any surprises at checkout.
So curious to see how this actually works because it
sounds super cool. But then is it gonna be one
of those things where it's like in real life?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
I imagine. I know that it's not like this, but I've
imagine it's like a cartoon where they wake up and
they're on a conveyor belt and it just throws the
clothes on you. You're ready for the day. In my head,
that's what it's like. I know it's not. It's probably
like a mirror you look at and they visually just
put that out on you.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
So I don't know, but.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
I'd like to think, because if you ever look at
like online, when you're online shopping, you look at the
model that's wearing the clothes, You're like, oh, it looks
great on them, but I'm not that size, so that's
probably not gonna fit me like that. And that's the
stuff that I run into is I'm a shorter guy,
so like all my clothes are need to be tailored,
and I'm not gonna tailor clothes. So well, either kids

(02:23):
clothes or.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
They can help you with that, but good luck, bud,
they might get you another size a little bit faster.
That's three things you should know. Here's one you probably shouldn't.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Soft clubbing is becoming a thing with gen Z. I've
never heard of this phrase before, but you made a
solid play at what this really might be. Soft clubbing is.
The trend is all about swapping late night partying for
daytime wellness focused events like sober DJ sets and coffee shops,
cold plunge, speed dating, five K runs. These just seem

(02:59):
like hobbies and other gatherings that prioritize connection and mental health.
Why the shift, It's a mix of things high cost,
the desire for more meaningful interactions and experiences, and practicality
doing stuff during the day is safer, and it also
allows you to have the night to unwind.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
You know, I love to be in bed by age.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, this is I mean, it's a good idea. I
don't really miss We don't really have clubs in West
Michigan anymore. I really miss them. I think a brewery
is perfect. You can go in and get some dinner.
You're in bed by nine ten o'clock.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Yeah, but we're like we're past the clubbing age, I think.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, but I don't think there's clubs here anyways, Like
they just disappeared after we like our generation, like the
Millennials kind of was the last of the clubbing era.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
I feel like, well, it sounds like gen Z doesn't
really want to do it. They just want to like network.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah that's what this.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
During day, they just like they just want to like
lunch and learn or you know, get coffee.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
In the event Many event platform our event Bright has
reported a four hundred and seventy eight percent increase in
coffee clubbing events.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
The coffee club is interesting, but again networking beat outy
three Sports.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Tigers lost to Cleveland yesterday five to two. Still a
shot at the playoffs, but it would be a best.
It would be a better run if they were here
in first. They lost ten of their last eleven games.
They play them again today. Pregame starts at six fifteen.
You can hear that on our sister station, Wood Radio.
And then Red Wings beat Chicago in a preseason match,
three to two,

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
