(00:44):
whas that brings you all this fun content. I am
back with a special pair of guests. This is our
first time we've actually had on the show, guys, two
people at one time, and we got the power couple
of all power couples in WWE, Alistair Black and Selena Vega.
Welcome to the show. How you guys doing today?
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Good man, thank you for having us.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
We appreciate you guys coming on and taking your time.
I know it's a busy schedule, as you heard me
talking with Steph. I am getting married next week, and
so it's as you guys already established marriage. It's it's
a fun stuff. You guys have let people into your
life with, you know, some of your YouTube blogging and
stuff like that. Some of the one of the questions
(01:25):
that I'm going to ask to go ahead and get
us started with it. I guess it's kind of twofold
question for both of you. What's one thing one piece
of advice I would say that you guys can give
to me as a man about to step into a marriage.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Make sure you're really really good friends. Yeah, like love
is one thing, but friendship is a whole other thing.
And loving each other is obviously the most important part.
But being friends with each other is it, my opinion,
the absolute glue that makes that love work better.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Gosh, I don't even know that I can't answer that
even better. But first off, congratulations, that is thank you, sang.
I love that. It's It's always nice when I hear
you know people, when you actually get to find out
the person it's you know, not a lot of people.
We actually got a card recently that said that, you know,
it's like not everybody gets to find like they're they're
meant to be other half, So congrata on that. But yeah,
(02:19):
I think for sure definitely friends first, and we're really
big on humor too, you know, just having fun together
and just making sure that we are obviously what we
do for our job, but we're also we make time
for each other no matter what, like nothing gets in
the way of that.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah, I think I think the chemistry between you two
is palpable, and I think that that's translated onto your
camera roles just as well. As I mentioned, you guys
have gone full power couple dubbing yourself as necessary evil.
I like that what brings this real life chemistry to
the dark guys say, what's it like kind of balancing
your stuff behind the scenes and then when you get
(02:58):
on when you actually get on Green and it's replicated
through storylines. What's been sort of the easiest part with
doing that?
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I think that's kind of goes back to the first part,
but it's also a lot of trust. One of the
things that was important for me is that and this
is in my opinion, still something that's kind of like
trying to find its ground in this. I didn't want
to lose Selena Vega and all of and Selena Vega
(03:28):
becomes this Dungeons and Dragons character and speaks in wittles
and stuff like that, because that's not what Selena Vega is.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
And.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
You know, I want I wanted her to still be
able to deliver her like her like singers and stuff
like that. It's just I think a lot of times
when you alter things slightly about your character, especially in
this dimension that her and me are standing in right now,
you don't have to change much in terms of what
(03:58):
the essence of your character is. It just has that
the narrative has to change as to how you speak
in regards to the topics that you utilize as your character.
Once I explained the kind of like worldview that Alistair
Black has, she then has to translate that to what
Selena Vega does. And the aesthetic with it obviously is
(04:21):
what it is, and that will translate a lot to
decrib as well. But at the same time, she can't
be happy go Lucky Street Twain Selina Vega and all
that stuff. You know, there has to be slight all
the cases, but they have to be minimal, but at
the same time not lose what made her famous and
popular in the first place.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Absolutely, and that's uh, it's really cool because one thing
that we like to stress on this show when we
talk about wrestling is just characters. For whatever reason, that
feels like a lost form nowadays. So I always appreciate
anybody that can have a good on screen persona. And
seeing you guys, obviously with the chemistry that you have
in your personal life translate to the real scorel It's
really fun to see and it makes it believable. You know,
(05:03):
in a world of wrestling where we suspend our disbelief,
it's not hard to not believe you guys. So it's
really cool to finally see you guys get back together
and do some runs. Let's go ahead and flip the
script and talk about your opponents. I know that you
guys have had some run ends with Damian Priest and
Rhea Ripley. That's gonna be going down on SmackDown. They
(05:23):
issued a chilling warning to you guys just a couple
of days ago. How would you respond, How are you
both getting prepared for the tarrorits wins? Because obviously Damien
re not a couple, but they definitely have some chemistry.
Back with the judgment, day, they know how to be
in tag teams. What are you guys doing to prepare
for those two?
Speaker 1 (05:45):
To be honest, it's just about remaining myself in that aspect.
I don't think I have to change much other than
the stuff that they've already seen, which has been successful
in that regard. Obviously has had experiences with Ria before,
so she adjusts to how she needs to suggest. I
(06:06):
think the factor here is that for Rhea, this is
a difference Selena Vega, Well, Ria Ripley has remained the
same in that regard. Obviously areally very familiar with Damian Priest.
There was not a lot to change, but the same
(06:29):
as what she needed to change slightly about herself is
what we slightly altered in the ring. And we've been
working on a lot of different techniques, I would say,
a lot of different ways to approach certain combinations and
mixing up our styles.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, and even honestly, when people used to ask me,
when you know, even back in the nexteen, like, oh,
how would you prepare for this match? And even honestly
against you, a lot of people would ask, you know,
how could you do that? Or how would you do that?
And I was never big on exposing my tactics. I
still I'm knowing because they could be watching this. They
(07:11):
could be watching this at any moment, like anybody could
see this and then go, Okay, I'm going to remember
that from when I am in the ring. I want
to remember that that she's going to be, you know.
So I think that's that's a big part of me,
is never letting the other person know your next move,
because you always want to have something up your sleeve.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
That's always when we're talking about competition, that's probably the
one thing to have. Never let them know your next move.
You just nailed it right there, as Elena. I wanted
to go ahead and preface this question to you. Obviously
you had some run as Women's Singles Champion. It's because
because you held the US title. I want to ask, uh,
there's a there's a you're no stranger of the spotlight.
(07:48):
You had your singles titles pushed. What does that mean
to you in your career? Kind of getting that vote
of confidence and having one of the brand new women's
titles that they just brought out, And I guess twofold,
what do you think that means for professional wrestling? When
when it comes to the women's professional wrestling. How does
that elevate the whole women's locker room.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I think it's amazing. I think it's something that we
really needed, especially for the women that don't always get
a shot at, you know, the world championship, you know.
So it's it's something that shows, you know, the people
who are also working hard, not just in the world
title picture, but we're also getting recognized for the things
(08:27):
that we're doing too. And that doesn't mean that we're
not going to get to that eventually or when our
time comes. It just means that, you know, we have
something else to fight for and to show how hard
we're all working and not just not just them. So
I thought it was really important to It's just it's
a recognizing the other workers there, you know, which I
think is really important. And you know, for me getting
(08:50):
to bring that title to my family and being able
to say, like, I finally did this for me, it's
it's nice. And I also want to make sure that
understand that, you know, when people thought that when I
got with my husband that all of a sudden, she's
a manager again and we're losing her as a wrestler,
you're not you're not. I really want to stress that
(09:11):
because the fun thing is Selena has worn so many hats.
You know, There's there's been Zelena manager, there's been queens Selena,
there's been Lbo Selena. But now I feel like this
version of myself is the purest form and the most
fun So I mean you can even see it with
people like, oh my god, she's working with snakes. But
I've loved snakes forever, you know, So it's it's nice
(09:32):
to just embrace this form of me and just really
get to put that out there for people. And you know,
I think they just they accepted it with open arms
as soon as that entrance happened. I feel like they
really accepted that with open arms.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Yeah, And I think I think one of the things
the kind of divulge on that last part, like this
is to be honest, this is not something really like new.
If you go back through the last couple of years,
has been like hints of that, you know, with the
snake stuff, but also with us where this was originally
supposed to happen In twenty twenty, right before I had
(10:03):
my initial departure, we shot a bunch of tesavignettes and
there was already a pretty like big plan for her
and myself to be put on television together, so with snakes. Actually, yeah,
so we had this. We kind of had this setup,
(10:25):
and I kind of liked the fact that I was
able to marinate because I feel like for myself and her,
that experience of that singles title and all the stuff
that she's done in between him myself as well made
what this is now so much better than I think
if we would have done it back in twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
That's a very humbling response from the both of you. Definitely,
guys definitely understand that patience is a virtue. Things take time,
and things happened for a reason that would have been
awesome to see back back in twenty nineteen to twenty
twenty days. But of course, with everything that happened with
the world now, it seems like we're coming back to that.
And no, I definitely don't think, as Alena, this is
(11:05):
uh uh, this is one of your last chances. I
think you guys have still a lot to scratch the
surface with and that's the most exciting parts because, like
you said, you look like you're comfortable. I definitely think
that the company sees that and you're now getting your
chance to sign and and from my opinion and a
lot of fans out there, you're doing one heck of
a job at it.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Thank you. It's really interesting also to be put, you know,
in a position like this and then it's like one
week you're you know, you're losing your singles title, and
then the next week you're basically the next week you're
slapping Cody Roads in the face. I mean, it's just different.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
So that's right. This is the baby Faces Podcast on iHeartRadio.

Go check that out. We are here with WWE superstars
Alistair Black and Selena Vega. WWE is going to be
(12:02):
coming through Louisville. I don't know if you guys know. Louisville,
Kentucky is the home of the greatest Muhammad Ali. That's
going down February twenty seventh. I'll actually be getting back
for my honeymoon then, so it's gonna be a race
against time to see if I can make it to
the Young Center one thing that we like to ask
everybody here on the show is that they'd never been
to a WWE show, what can they expect from going
(12:23):
and seeing everything live? And what can they expect when
they see Alistair Black and Zelena Vega.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
I think, Obro, you're going to be able to see
something that is entertainment on a whole different level than
you've ever seen it before. It's a unique, overly vert
unique entertainment area that I don't think people can really
grasp by just looking at it from TV. Obviously that's
our biggest medium, but it drives what we do at
(12:51):
a live show so much, so much more, you know,
I always kind of like say that there is a
it's it's it's hard to explain the concept of what
professional wrestling is because it embodies so much uh there's
uh there, there's fighting, there's drama, there's there's there's there's coordination,
(13:14):
there is it's almost like a like a like a
violent theater and you have only one take with it.
And I don't think that people sometimes realize how incredibly
difficult this is. But I think that every person should
at least in their life attend one w LI event
or wrestling event, I should say, just to kind of
(13:36):
grasp what it is. But w B does entertainment, professional wrestling, sports, entertainment,
whatever you can call it, on a whole different level.
And when it comes to myself and uh and Solena,
I think that the presentation is an overtly very unique
twist on a dark persona that you have never seen
(14:01):
in the way that is portrayed. Now, there's a lot
of nuances and different things that perhaps not immediate, but
looking maybe fifteen years down the line, you're going to
look back at some of this stuff and go, I
never realized that they did X Y or Z or
said so and so. And there's a lot of like
hidden features about the entrances, about the promos and even
(14:24):
on certain live aspect shows that we do with in
terms of our gears, and that to me makes it
makes it the most fun, is that I can hide
things in plain sight.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
I think that that's really cool too, because when you go,
like you said, you go to a show, there's so
much happening here that they're allowed to do stuff over here,
and then you miss it, like, oh my, how did
I not catch that? It's really really cool there WWEI
production is on match You guys can get your tickets
now at ticketmaster dot com. They're going to be at
the KFC Young Center here in a couple months, February
twenty second, twenty seven. Before I get you guys out
(14:57):
of here, you had mentioned it, Selena and this one
is you Alistair. One week you're losing your championship. The
next week you're standing in front of the men's champion
and you're slapping him in the face. You had that
intense stare down Alistair with Cody Rhoades. He has the belt,
kind of staking your claim for a shot at the title.
You obviously got to get past the Terror Twins, which
(15:18):
is shaping up to look really good for you guys.
What do you think a WWE title would mean for
Alistair Black? And I guess on the flip side of that,
what would an Alistair Black championship brain mean for the WWE?
Speaker 1 (15:32):
I think for myself it would mean recognition of something that,
in a weird way is overdue to an extent. I
think I would be a very very different champion than
something they've had over the last you know, perhaps ten years.
(15:54):
And I know everybody says that of course, because that's
to be honest, it's a bit of an answer. But
I truly think that what I present and what I
represent and the esthetic that I bring is something different.
I think the approach of the narrative that runs in
my head when I look at from the perspective of
my character to how he sees the world, I think
(16:19):
that would tie in the ring a little bit different
because as much as that the title obviously represents everything
that the restler wants, I think there's a hint of
cynicism with Alistair where he kind of straddles along the
fourth wall sometimes, and I think that would make the
title look very, very different. The owner would make the
(16:43):
title look very different in that regard.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, I think that that would be such a very
refreshing image. And you walk out your entrance is awesome,
having the belt on you. That would be very eerie
ominous in everything that Alistair Black is. So we're rooting
for it. We definitely hope that you get the cross
path with the Champion again, who's also a friend of
the show. We've had Cody on before. Now you guys
are friends of the show, so it's really awesome to
(17:06):
get to talk to you, hopefully before a couple of
big wins in your guys' career. This is Austin with
the baby Faces podcast welcoming Alistair Black and his wife,
the lovely Selena Vega. Guys, thank you so much. Be
sure to catch them in Louisville February twenty seventh for
WWE SmackDown. It's going down at the KFC. Young Sinner, Alistairs, Selena,
(17:27):
thank you so much for your time. I appreciate it.
Big fans are rooting for you over here, and good
luck with you on the next couple months and happy holidays.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
It's coming up crazy, yes you too. Thank you so much,
so much,
