"If a gummy knocks you out for 12 hours… is it medicine or a crime?"That’s the question that kicks off this hilariously chaotic segment of The Ben and Skin Show on 97.1 The Eagle. Join Ben Rogers, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray as they dive into the wild world of sleep struggles, questionable gummies, and the legal gray areas of Texas vape shops.Ben opens up about his recent battle with insomnia and the desperate search for a solution—leading to a sketchy encounter at a vape shop that felt more like a covert drug deal than a wellness visit. KT, ever the resilient narcoleptic, offers insight into his own sleep journey, including the challenges of CPAP machines and the elusive dream of eight uninterrupted hours.

It was awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Okay, how did you guys play any Nirvana songs?

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Well, actually we did a lot of meat Puppets really
and which technically is Nirvana. So we did cover of
a cover songs and I did my Gigantic by the
Pixies Let's Go. We did a Deftone song, so we
we had a good medley going.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
It was really fun.

It was fun. Is it one of your favorite shows
you've ever done?

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Man? So we didn't know.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
We thought it was a private event because I would
say it was my favorite show if we had all
of our friends there, like friends and listeners, So if
I could have told people to be there, then it
would have been my favorite show.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
But a favorite stage so far. Yeah, okay, it is awesome.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
All right?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
And is there anything we want to put on anyone's
radar in case they want to go see Oatmeal Pizza,
the very popular local Nirvana cover band.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
When might you perform next?

Speaker 4 (02:16):
We should go ahead and introduce Kat and I'll get
back to you on that band.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
That's fine, take your time.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Find it also here in studio, the Pride and Joy
of Only Texas. He's just a good old boy, never
meaning no harm, but he's been in trouble with the
law since the.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Day was born. Ladies and gentleman KT fun tweets, Yeah,
come on, come on, come on, come on, you gotta
scream everyone, come on, come on. Skin is not here today.
He's no longer with us. Late again. What are your
immediate thoughts? How does this impact your day? I really
noticed that again. I was actually is this a scheduled
day off? Because I was actually hoping he was going
to be late?

Speaker 3 (02:53):
And then toilet. He was born in a toilet and
he's proud of that.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Already had an email written up to our program directors
say this, Jeff Wade fell, I can't show up to
work on time. Get him reported. Turns out he turned
in a day off.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
I guess we got a great show planned. I know
because I was in the pre show meeting. But I
want to start by saying, uh, I give you guys
a little update. I struggle with I've been struggling for
the past month or soho with a sleep issue.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Now.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
I love talking to Kat about this because he's overcome
so many challenges because he's narc elliptic. So Kat listening
to someone else bitch about sleeping problems.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
It's it's it's kind of rough, right.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
You have to buy your tongue a lot, I'm sure.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Right, Like, you can't really complain about how hard it
is because you you watch somebody you love go through well,
way harder struggle.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Man, fire away. Uh let me, don't let me stop you.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Here's we got six hours, right?

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Like? How much? What are what is the longest amount
you sleep at a time? Oh yeah, I mean two
three hours? Man, lucky if it's three, that rarely happens. God,
I'm so sorry. That sucks.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
And dude, you you are overcoming it every day with
all you do. And so I'm not going to complain
about getting a six hour you know, clip asleep, but
I will. I will say this. I have not been
sleeping very much at all. I'm having trouble going to sleep,
and then when I do fall asleep, I'm waking up
too early. And so one of our good friends, one

(04:24):
of the Vielma's at the front desk, was telling me,
you need these weed gummies. He goes, I just slept
for twelve straight hours with this weed gummy, and he
was like, you can order this direct to your door,
and I started going, I don't know that you can.
We are in Texas. And so I was, and I
don't know a lot about this, but I looked it

(04:45):
up on I was asking chat GPT, hey is this
legal to have this? And it was like, absolutely not
in Texas. If you have this on you, you know
it's a felony. I'm like, wait, what are you sure?
And so well I the other yesterday, I was right
next to a vape shop that was right by just
happened to be right where I was, and one of

(05:06):
the guys was walking out, one of the owners, and
I was like, hey, do you guys have any thing
in there for sleep?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
He's like, oh, yeah, we got gummies. And I was
like okay.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
So I went in there and basically I felt like
a kid going into the gas pipe back in the
day asking for a bong. But you got to be
real careful. I need a water pipe for tobacco. Yeah,
because if you say the wrong thing. I think if
you say bong or you say weed or marijuana, you're
kicked out.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
That's how it used to be.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
And so I am trying to ask as carefully as possible,
do you have these gummies that will help me go
to sleep. And they're smiling and showing me the gummies,
but I'm like, are these legal? And so I'm trying
to I have to ask the business owner are these.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
And that's when they're like, are you a cop?

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Right?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Are you asking?

Speaker 1 (05:50):
And I already kind of looked like a cop. So
they're selling.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
I'm just assume it's legal, right, So do you know?

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Do you guys know? I don't.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
I don't, but I know a lot of people who
use those two help them go to sleep.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
So I'm not I'm not going to tittle on them.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
But do they use them? So they go to Oklahoma
to get them? Well, so they're probably using like CBD
type stuff. Correct without the THCHC in it? Is that? What? Okay?
Because the THHC it would be the problem. But some THCHC,
some some versions of it have been made legal in
Texas and that's how we were talking about those THHC
drinks that you could buy and then those could be

(06:27):
going away soon. I think that's still up in the air.
How that's ever going to play. I don't, I don't know,
so I my understanding is it's that, but the CBD
stuff would keep those places in business. Onlooka, I think.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
So that must be what these gummies are, CBD stuff,
which is totally fine because it's not there's no THC.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I think so if there is THC, it's the kind
that's legal in Texas for now. But this is where
I like, you know, I don't know who are they.
We would need to get a you know, our resident
a drug expert on.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
But isn't that scary because again, chat GPT was sitting
there going, yeah, if you even get caught with small
amounts of this, if it's the wrong thing, you're looking
at a felony offense.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
I wouldn't test it in Texas either, I mean right,
like they're pretty serious about it. But you know what,
there's maybe we could get you, like a hypnotist, oh
to come by every night, a hot one. I think
you would. You would have to pay up for that.
You know, they've got their their hypnotist rankings, right. Some

(07:29):
don't even need to stop watch. They just kind of
move their boobies, okay, and it's like all over okay.
I don't know if cat would be okay, that she might,
I mean, if.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
You could be antist, right, yeah, she could just start
telling me about her day.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Like every man is, just like, yeah, she should want.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Anything for your help sleep sleep immediately if it meant that.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
You get the lift fifteen years longer because you're getting
good restorative sleep. I think she should be on board
for whatever she wants me gone on.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
And she wants the money from the will like she's
she cann expedite that.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
That'd be great understandably too.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
And the other thing I've got to look into is
the sleep apnea thing. I think I'm ready to try
the mask again. Do you sleep with one of those masks?

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Kevin? I do, but I am not. I've had a
bad two or three weeks that it really I don't know.
I sometimes it will happen, is I will. I'll just
get irritated and take it off right, but then I
get it back on. But I still like, I've never
been able to do it for eight hours because I
just wake up.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
But does it help the amount of sleep you get?
Is it? You?

Speaker 1 (08:38):
It helped and make it makes me feel better when
I was getting like four hours or five hours on
my sleep machine, yeah, what you're supposed to be getting six,
seven or eight? Yeah, But but for me, four or
five is double what I was getting, So that's really good.
My problem is, I just I got out of the
routine if I went on vacation to take it with me.
So once you get out of the routine, it's hard

(08:58):
to get back into it. But once you kind of
get one, two, three, four days, it's like wordle, you know.
Once I started getting them all in a row, then
it's right. But there's tons of sleep companies like here
in DFW that I think we could reach out to.
I'm all right, we should we endorsed one years ago.
But there's there's there's plenty of other companies like this
now and so maybe they are just offering here's a

(09:21):
seapap machine, but sometimes they have like a sleep expert
they're gonna go through. And I don't think it's like
it used to be where they tie you up to
a bed in a facility and you have to stay overnight.
I don't think it's like that anymore at some of
these places.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
All right, Well, if you are a company in Dallas
Fort Worth and you can help us, please do We
don't whatever it is. If you have any way to
help us get more sleep. And of course KT with
his Narcolepsi. Anything you could help with that, We're definitely
interested in partnering with you. I did hear about a
surgery called Inspire where you can fix your sleep avenue
without needing the seapat machine. Anyways, I'm interested in any

(09:57):
and all solutions, So holler at us on social media
if you if you have one. All right, coming up next, Christina,
where are you gonna take us in the cookie jar?

Speaker 4 (10:04):
Well?

Speaker 2 (10:04):
What if Ozzy Osbourne had covered No Doubt in Papa Roach.
We're gonna have some fun with music next
