Speaker 1 (00:01):
Mountain School around the sports k Tod quints as all.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
The sports, Yes all right. Came down last night that
the Rangers manager Bruce Bochie and the team had mutually
decided to part ways. His contract was up, but they
had basically made it clear that if he wanted to stay,
he could be the manager next year, and he decided to.
(00:28):
They decided to kind of break up, which the Rangers
needed clarity on this as soon as possible. They've hired
a last year, a manager in waiting type. Guy's name
is Skip Schumacher. He's actually maybe it's Shoemaker too. Schumacher's
more like an F one driver. Shoemaker played for the
Cardinals in the twenty eleven World Series that we lost.
(00:51):
He's a utility infielder guy. But he's highly thought of
and he had managed the Marlins before and took a
team that was not supposed to the playf to the playoffs,
but he left because there was some internal turmoil there.
So he's been waiting. But it's been very clear. There's
a few teams that are going to be hiring this
year a new manager, the Braves being one of them.
(01:13):
Possibly it's like he would have a pretty good. He
would probably get hired by someone else. So the Rangers
needed to go to Bruce and be like, dude, we
need to know as soon as possible. Are you leaving
or you're coming back? What do you want to do here?
Speaker 1 (01:27):
But he's probably going to go to be the Giants manager,
right Buster Posey's in charge? Yeah, well it's crazy what what?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
You know?
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I had mentioned this a while back because I had,
you know, heard that they were going to reduce payroll.
I didn't hear that anywhere else until recently. But in
these discussions, in these discussions with Boach, it sounds like
he was seeking clarity on payroll. Yeah, and they wouldn't
commit to and they were saying, no, we're going to
reduce payroll, and he's like, well, okay, Uh, he's been
(02:00):
around long enough. I think he was like, yeah, this
is probably a good time to bounce. This is not
going to get better, right, And he's at this point
in his career. He's I mean, this kind of sounds silly.
Everyone wants to win, but he's a World Series specialist. Yes, well,
you know, he's not someone.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
You bring in to restart a program or something like that.
It's like all right, let's go get a World Series.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
And they need to rebuild. They do. If they're going
to reduce payroll, then you need to get off some
of these bigger contracts and you need to refortify your
minor league system, which is not very good outside of
your number one guy, Sebastian Walcott like you, it's not
a good minor league system. So you're telling me you're
gonna cut payroll and still go for it.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
What I think, Uh, the worst case scenario for the
Rangers is Bruce comes back for one year and then
you lose the other guy and then you're left hanging
after one more year of seeger Simeon Evaldi into Grom
because you could sell that to bochback. Here's this, Yeah,
we'll just try it again, run it back, because that's
what they're going to do. They're going to try to
(03:03):
win next year unless but trade out of nowhere happens.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
But I'm telling you he looked at that and said,
yeah he was. He's got his head under the hood. Yeah,
he's like, yeah, this engine is not going to win.
I have very little time left. I'd rather if you're
not going for it. I don't want to be a
part of this.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I want to read. Let me read Chris Young's quote.
Chris Young's the president of the Rangers. He said, when
we went to him in twenty twenty two, we had
a little more clarity, is what the vision was and
where things stood, and a little more certainty in terms
of payroll. We don't have that at this point, and
we're at a point where we need to make a decision.
Without having perfect vision and clarity, it's hard to spell
(03:38):
out all the details of what this would look like. Well,
she's just basically saying, we don't know what our budgets
going to be. That's no clue.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
But also I think part of that is them not
knowing what they can even do with Sieger and Simon,
because that's their biggest problem is they have all that
money tied up in those two guys. And those two guys,
while they're great players, especially in the case of Eager,
they clearly over the last two years have had some
weird chemistry in that room. There's too many people talking
(04:06):
about it, and then those guys get hurt and they
go on some great run, even if it was you know,
fools gold. I mean, that's that's been discussed now for
like eighteen months. It's not it's not just some thing
it's out there. This is Ray Davis, this is this
is what this is.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Imagine if you, if you're Chris Young, how disadvantaged you
are at this point when you should be making all
your plans and figuring out exactly what you're gonna do.
They don't know. They just know it's not gonna be
good and they're gonna have to reduce payroll. Right, They're
not in a great situation.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Let me just say, like strictly from a business point
of view, if I'm Ray Davis and I've spent the
seventh most, okay, like I should here in the top
five market, and I didn't make the playoffs the last
two years, Yeah, we are cutting back. But there's ways
the payroll can go down with nothing to do anything,
And that's getting off of Jonaheim and a Doli Scarcia
and things like that. Without like you're still gonna be
(04:59):
able to go out and spa too much, but like,
there's ways the pail can go down like that with
some guys who just aren't very good anymore. So that's
a fascinating and so we'll see if they hire Shoemaker too,
like they might not. What has he been doing, skip Shoemaker? Yeah,
he just in an advisory role as a team and
doing some other stuff and hitting some fung gos, hit
some fun goals, probably like probably chalking the line, a little.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Bit of charity car wash, chalking the line.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
All right, there you have it. There's around the Sports
coming up next. In the music news, why does this
popular band have a fart smell at all their concerts?
And don't forget uh we coming up in the weekday Update.
We mentioned this earlier, the most controversial comedy concert of
all time. Then we got some cowboys news, don't go anywhere.
That's all coming your way right here on the Eagle
