beat the habit.

It's the world famous Ben and Skin Show ninety seven
point one the Eagle. Thank you for tuning in today
and every day. Thank you for making the Ben and
Skin Show a part of your daily routine. I'm Ben Rogers,
joined by Jeff skin Wade, Kevin k. T. Turner and
Christina Little Baby Cornbread Ray. I guess all hands on
deck today for what's going to be a spectacular show.

(01:25):
I know I was in the pre show meeting and
without question, the biggest story in our world is that
the Dallas Cowboys of Dallas beat those fighting Jets of
New York thirty seven to twenty two. Was the final
and an absolute dismantling of the Jets, who are terrible
and they're zero to five, and so now everyone is
forced to say, all right, did the Cowboys just fix

(01:47):
a lot of their woes or did this win just
come because it was the Jets?

Speaker 1 (01:53):
It is the team, you know. It's like, I think
it's a little bit of all that stuff. But they're
definitely trending in the right direction in two areas that
were big problems early on when they just looked terrible.
One they are getting pressure on the quarterback, and number two,
they are shooting themselves in the foot less and less.

(02:15):
There was a lot of penalties. That was a heavily
heavy penalized game yesterday, unbearably so at times, But like
the massive errors that end up costing you games, they
don't appear to be happening the way they did in
the first couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
I thought yesterday was just a reminder that every NFL
game is just one battle after another.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
It's good tease for the big finish later today.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Because look, we know the games are on the schedule.
We knew the first six games. When we looked at it,
you could kind of math out in your head, Okay,
they probably need to be four and two.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
We're gonna take them seriously.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
This year, and five and one would be great, you
know if you got high hopes, and then after the
first couple of weeks you're like, okay, my god, after
the Bears game, like can we just be.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Two and four? Are we gonna win five games this year?
What the hell?

Speaker 3 (03:04):
And really, September overreactions are kind of for the birds.
I think I think we've all settle on it. That
the Patriots beat the Bills last night. What's going on?

Speaker 1 (03:12):
That's a pretty good game, by the way, the hell
of game.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
So you calm down, you look at it, You beat
the team so you think you're supposed to beat and
you play a little bit better, and your quarterbacks playing
like MVP candidate.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
I think everything's possible here.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
It Man, the NFL is a box of chocolates. Hey
never know, you never you never know what you're gonna get.
You just never freaking know. And man, to be missing
eighty percent of your offensive line and missing ceede lamb.
No matter who you're playing, you're probably gonna lose. And
Dak Prescott looks so damn good right now, and that

(03:44):
the fans that on the road are chanting MVP. Cowboy
fans there in New York are chanting MVP for him
as he comes off the field. And that's what all
these sports shows are talking about today. And I've seen
a lot of people say, like, for instance, that Acho
guy was just saying, man, if Dak can get the
Cowboy eleven wins, he'll win MVP. Let's the break. I mean,
that's I'm like, And that's the thing about the MVP.

(04:05):
He may be the MVP, he may be playing better
than anyone on Earth, but their defense is the worst
in the league. And so if you know, you only
win the MVP if your team is one of the
better teams and you're the best player on one of
the better teams. But if you're he could play like
this all year and have an epic season and they
could still only win four or five games. And so

(04:26):
I don't you know, that's why that some of those
all that award stock is crazy. But the good news
is this is the first year that he of his
sixty million dollars contract, and he looked like if he
was going to be up for a contract after this year,
he would get the same deal or more.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, I think the thing about how you felt so
much of it had to do with the overall stench
of last year. And then you start thinking, all right,
is he just going to be beat up guy for
the rest of his career? And he might who knows,
But right now he looks great, and he's at the
age where there are so many you know, it's there's

(05:03):
that magic thing for for unfortunate reasons. By the time
Romo got to the age he was where he saw
everything and knew everything, he was just physically beat up.
Some guys can make it, some guys can't. And still
there's some guys that are just so smart it doesn't
matter if they can even can throw the ball anymore.
Peyton mannings last year, for example, he was just so
smart it didn't matter that. This is definitely that sweet

(05:24):
spot for Dak. He's seen it all, he knows he's
played with bad lines, he's played without weapons, he's seen everything.
He's making adjustments and deciding what he's gonna do before
they even get to the line. He's changing plays. He's
at that sweet spot in his quarterback life. He looks
great physically. If he can stay healthy, he can you

(05:44):
can win super bowls with him. Their scheme is so good.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
Yeah, Like I can remember watching teams in the last
couple years, like watching Detroit and you're watching them going, wow,
there's they schemed that guy wide open? Or look when
the when the ball is snapped. There's like three ways
this play could go. And I'm having a trouble even
following who has the ball right now? And now the
Cowboys have that. Yeah, Like their offense is dynamic. It's

(06:08):
impossible to predict their balance, and they have creativity. And
like Ferguson really on a little dump screen to the
tight end, he goes twenty plus yards to the house.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
I'm like, their scheme is incredible. What about third and
ten to the full back in the flat and you
pick up a first down because you've ran Ferguson out
there as a receiver and then suddenly he's roping a
guy off.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
We needed a one hundred lip key contribution this year
after they gave him a contract the day after they
traded micah Uh.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
That was really interesting.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Also the fact that there was a point in the
second quarter where Ryan Flanoy had five catches for one
hundred and four yards, but.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
And your running back had one hundred. You had one
hundred yard running back and one hundred yard receiver in
the first half. That's never happened in Dallas Cowboys history.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Yeah, you know, and there's a point where the Jets
quit and just refuse to tackle anybody, Like that's about
what happened there. For Williams on the sixty six yard run,
that was a truth, no disrespect to him.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
I was kind of like, were I through running it
right here? What they didn't? Oh my god, they quit
so fast.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Yeah, it was such a close game.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
And when the fumble happened, but like Ryan Flinoy was
the first play of the game, they put him in
motion and handed it off to him, and I was like, Okay,
they clearly had a plan to use him because the
Jets would never be thinking about him.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
He started the year on the practice squad, didn't he
And I just remember it camp like hearing people that
were at camp rather just talk about how good he looked.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Yeah, and now you wonder like, Okay, so who loses
their job now? Like when everybody's healthy, told we're got
one target yesterday?

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Didn't this happen because Mingo got hurt?

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Uh? Probably?

Speaker 3 (07:45):
I mean he was still playing special teams, so he
he had forced it. He had been on the rushers
like wide receiver five. But yeah, maybe he's not if
Mingo's there, Yeah, maybe because I know he was on
the practice squad to start the year. Meet the guys
like Jalen Brooks and all those guys at the bottom.
Crapper Cropper, it's the name, Crapper. Crapper Cropper, all right, Cripper.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
All right, there you have it. We're off and running.
And where do you guys want to taket? Next to Cowboys?
Let's keep this conversation going.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Man, I really would like to talk about the defense
a little bit because I think it's the area where
if this Cowboys team does stay in the mix in
the NFC East will be because of that. All right,
let's do that next. A huge battle coming up at
the bottom of the hour, the Rock versus Taylor Swift.
Why we'll explain. Also sometime during the show, we'll be
giving away nine inch Nails tickets. They're coming to the

(08:31):
American Airline Center in March. We got tickets all week long.
We're gonna hook you up. You have to have the
iHeart app in order to win those tickets, because we
use it, so be ready. Cowboys do win. Yesterday they
put up thirty seven points, but they didn't need all
of them because they a very poor Jets team only
scored twenty two. So if the Cowboys can go into

(08:52):
games where they're only going to give up twenty two,
they're going to be in business. But there's certainly not
a lot of indication that that's going to be the norm.
The one thing that stood out yesterday, we'll see if
it can continue because it did happen last week, but
it really happened this week. They got five sacks yesterday
and that went a long way to helping them.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
Yeah, I mean, and they weren't playing a good quarterback,
a guy that held the ball way too long. And
it is the Jets, but it's it's moving in the
right direction. You know, they're at times you look at
it and you're like man with you know, they've shored
up the middle of their defensive line. They can play
well against the run at times there you know, their

(09:32):
linebackers look good. Their secondary is the thing that just
has not looked good all season. But there also seems
to be so much confusion back there, Like you know,
you hear Trayvon Diggs saying they don't want to play zone,
they want to play man and begging the coaches to
play more man, and they're like, dude, do your job.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
This is what we're asking.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
There just seems to be some dysfunction and confusion in
the secondary. So maybe if they're young offense or defensive linemen,
their edge guys can somehow continue to evolve and get
better and get pressure and they sort out whatever confusion
there is back there.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
You can squint and.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Say, okay, I can see how I mean.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
If they're just like the nineteenth best defense, they could
have a fun season.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Yeah, part of this was a bit of a perfect
storm on Just like the quarterback that you're playing justin
Fields was one of the best against man defense, one
of the worst quarterbacks in the league so far this
year and really throughout his career against zone defenses. So
playing a lot of zone could help you a lot.
I think part of that is justin Fields like if
it's man, the guys turn and run and you can
go take off and run and get some yards.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
So justin Field's line is really good.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Like thirty two of forty six for two hundred and
eighty three yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, Like it's a
good another good day. Now the Cowboys basically backed everyone
off in the second half. Yeah, and the Jets quit,
so like, I don't know what to think about that.
It's also like when do the sacks happen? Like yeah,
and that's like they had a back to back sacks.

(10:56):
I think was Osa and I think there was one
of the James Houston and Kenny Clark we're in on. Yeah,
like right there, just killing a drive and sometimes just
the timing of it, but there's no stopping the run
happening at all.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
God, he ran hall ran all over them.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
Could have I mean, he had fourteen carries and.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
I think it was I thought he had ninety eight
yards at half.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
One hundred and thirteen yards eight yards of carry.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
He's good man.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
I wanted the Cowboys to go get him, and I'll
be damned, the Cowboys have a great running back. I
cannot believe Javonte Williams how good he is. And I've
heard some people talking about this, so like, hey, when
was the last time the Cowboys had a better free
agent signing.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah, this is it. I mean, this is the one.
Like they haven't, especially running back. They kind of ignored
Rico Dadle did have two hundred and five yard yesterday. Uh,
and we'll get him next week. Yeah, he said the
buckle up.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
So I didn't realize that Williams was twenty five years old.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
He's very young.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
He's just had a bunch of injury too, knee injury,
and you never want to pay a running back, especially
one that gets injured. But if he stays healthy year
the way he's running, and they ended up giving him
the deal that ric o'dowdell got in Carolina, I'd be
happy with that.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
But if he stays healthy, I mean he's he's either
one or two in the league in rushing right now. Yeah,
and he's got a ton of touchdowns too. Like he's
gonna vault himself into a different class and go get
a lot of money. I think they up and if
he does, I have no interest in paying him.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
Yeah, you know, the Rico things weird because I think
if we have signed Rico.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Dowdell to a cheap deal, I think we would have
all felt good about that, yeah, and been fine.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yes, But I think I could have signed him to
the deal he got in Carolina and I would have
been fine.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Like ric o'dowdell would have had like sixteen or seventeen
hundred yards last year if they let him play. Yeah,
But they for the first two months said Zeke is
our starter. It's very crazy, like McCarthy knowing that he
wouldn't or like possibly not going to be here another year.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
How did he not put a stop to that? It's
crazy to me.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Maybe he thought that he would get to keep his
job if he played Zeke and go, man, I played
your guy and he's held us back. I don't know
what to tell you. Everyone knew he couldn't play. Oh god, Well, well,
we'll get back into it a bit later in the presentation.
But big win for the Cowboys thirty seven to twenty
two over the Jets. We'll get back into it actually
coming up at four o'clock. But coming up next Taylor

(13:15):
Swift versus The Rock. We'll talk about that next
