Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, gentlemen, have you been lying about the size
of your unit? If so, the love Shack is here
to put you on blast. That's coming up here momentarily.
Maybe I should rephrase that we got a weekday update
coming up. Is everyone drinking less or are they drinking more?
Stay tuned to find out. That's about ten minutes away.
But right now it's time for this cowboy.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Surprise.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
All right.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
We are huge fans of our friends over at DLLs.
No matter what it is, it's the All City company,
it's local teams, local podcasts. They do phenomenal work. We
have so many friends over there. The great Jeff Cavanaught
is over there, for instance, and in their Cowboys coverage,
he's got Clarence Hill there, and he's got the great
Jesse Holly, longtime friend of ours. Now Jesse Holly is
(01:00):
a former wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys. Dear friend
of ours obviously, but he also won a national championship
playing basketball at North Carolina. Just a really interesting dude,
does a ton of work for local charities. We absolutely
love this dude, good good friend of the show. So
Jesse and the DLLLS Cowboys crew are out at training camp,
(01:23):
and they had Shottenheimer on Shotty, so they have the
head coach of the Dallas Cowboys on And I think
this brings up an interesting point because when we do
you know, we've done sports talk before, we dabble in it.
Now we wet our beacon it. But we're not doing
a hardcore sports talk show obviously. But when you are
giving a strong opinion, like I had an opinion in
(01:44):
twenty eleven, the worst opinion I've ever had, that the
MAVs are going to be the one and done boys.
They were gonna get to the finals, or get to
the playoffs, not the finals, get to the first round
and get bounced one series and bounced. Okay, so I'm
strong with that opinion, but every time a player from
that team came on, I didn't have to confront that
player with my opinion. Now, hey, I think you guys
(02:07):
are gonna get bounced in the first round. And if
you don't do it, or is somebody gonna say, oh,
you're a p He didn't tell them what you what
you've been saying. Watch you tell him what you've been saying, right,
And so it's always a slippery slope with deciding how
to handle those things. And Jesse has been very opinionated
about Shoddy and I think he's been saying, all right, Shody,
you're saying one thing, but you're showing me something else.
So I thought this was a really cool exchange. Jesse
(02:29):
went ahead and fessed up and said, Hey, this is
what I've been saying, and Shody took it and answered it.
And let's just take a listen to this exchange. Feel
free to stop it at any point.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
I have to be honest with you. I've been on
this show and I've talked about your your openness, right,
your your gifted gab, and you have that, and you've
you've wowed a lot of people with the things that
you've said. You talked about being a running, physical football team,
and you know, do these things and sometimes no, you know,
you show situations where it's like, you know, hey, six
passive players in a row, right, and so like, how
(02:59):
does that all come together for what you say? And
then it matching up in lining up with the things
that you do well.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
I love the question number one.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
And I will say this the one thing I will
always be with you and everybody, the fans, the players.
I will always be authentic. I'm always going to tell
you what I think of what I believe. Here's what
I would say to you. We went into that game
last week with a very specific purpose. We wanted to
kind of put Joe out there and sling it around
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
That was the plan, and see how he handled it.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
And quite honestly, we started slow, we had limited opportunities.
I wouldn't read too much into what you see in
the preseason. The preseason is for evaluation. I don't have
to go out there on the first preseason game, or
even this game against Baltimore Lanta and run at fifty
times to show that.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
I think I would go to my.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
History, my history of coordinator in Seattle led the league
in rushing in twenty eighteen, coordinator in two thousand and
eight New York Jets.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Led the league in rushing. So again, I appreciate, love
the question.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
The question's a fair question, but I wouldn't read too
much into what you see in preseason football in general, but.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Even more this year.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Why Well, we're trying to evaluate certain guys, and Joe
Milton's a guy that needs to play a lot of football.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
He's going to play a lot of football this.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
Week and then the next week, and we're certainly being
smart with what we show.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
And why would we do that.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
We do that because this is the one chance that
we'll ever have here in Dallas where we don't show
people in the preseason what we're doing, because next year
they're gonna have a really good idea. They're gonna have
hopefully twenty plus games to look at and evaluate.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
This year, they don't have that. They Hey, are we
going to be Seattle? I don't know. Are we going
to be Arizona? I don't know, Well, what about we
going to be Dallas? And I kind of like that.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
Yeah, I think Jesse was fair, and I think Shotty
had a way better answer than Jesse probably could have
ever imagined, because I was just sitting there listening to
his answer, going, now, I haven't heard all of the
DLLs stuff, but I'm like, why has Jesse worked up
over preseason football?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
You know?
Speaker 6 (04:53):
It's like I never get worked up over preseason anything
unless it's just like some horrible, glaring thing. And that's
the thing about, like, you know, the opinion business is
sometimes you got to like create an opinion about something
that's just not all that interesting.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Well, I loved his answer. I thought it was fantastic, Yeah, saying, hey,
we wanted to get Joe Milton some work, so we're
not trying to come out and establish the run. But
you know, look at these two instances in my pass
where I've been big on the run. So I just
appreciate the way he took the question yeah, and was
like not upset about it and it wasn't but heard
(05:29):
about it and wasn't offended in any way and then
just proceeded to answer it. I just thought it was
a really cool exchange on both their parts.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
I dug it.
Speaker 6 (05:38):
Yeah, I agree with all that. And you know, again,
like I wouldn't read anything into preseason football unless there's
a major injury of a star, then you have something
to get worked up over all.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Right, Coming up next, it's the weekly weekday update. Is
everybody drinking less or are they drinking more?
