Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ben An Skin Show ninety seven point one The Eagle,
And you've been hearing us talk about this. Ben and
I get excited every year whenever Dirk's tennis charity event
comes rolling around and it is right around the corner.
It's happening Saturday, September the thirteenth, And one of the
things that we're lucky to do is leading up to it,
we always catch up with the big german himself, the
Hall of Famer, the Amazon broadcaster who's joining us down

(00:24):
line right now. Give it up for Dirt Navinchki.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Everybody, give it up. Give it up. Hey, good to
hear from you guys.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Hey, TV star, how are you man?

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Oh I'm not quite sure about all that, but I'm
gonna try. I'm gonna try to be the next Charles Sparkley.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Who knows. But yeah, we're we're excited. You know, it's
just getting real.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
You know, when I signed this the old somewhere in
the last year, I was like, oh, this is so
far away, and now it's September.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I mean get a little anxious, you know, I'm a
little nervous.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
How is how's the show gonna look, How's it gonna
come together? How's the chemistry gonna be on set, and
how's the studio even though we haven't even seen that
the studio has not even done yet until right before
the season, So getting a little anxious, But.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Also it'd be super cool.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
And obviously I wouldn't have done this if if I
would have had.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
A like a crew that I didn't believe in.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
But this with Steve and you know Blake, I think
it's and Taylor has been super nice and so I
think it's.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Going to be a fun crew. And that's why I'm
looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Here's why you should feel good about it. You brought
up Berkley and he claims to have discovered you. So
that's a full circle moment, right he says he discovers
you and then you become a broadcaster just like him.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, sort of full full circle for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
But yeah, you know, if you would have asked me
ten fifteen years ago while I still played, if this
was in my cards, I would have said, you're absolutely
out of.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Your mind, you know. So this this just you know,
I tried a.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Little bit, obviously with you guys on mass broadcast and
just messing around a little bit, and I kind of
enjoyed it, and then this opportunity came about, and I
just thought it was too greative an opportunity.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
To pass up.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
At least, you know, see if I like it, try
it for a couple of years, and you know, who
knows if I will to be doing this in twenty years.
But I thought, for now, this is a great opportunity.
And like I said, with great co workers, with great
bosses that I've met in LA. I flew out to
LA and the summer for a couple of days. We
had some meetings and I think they assembled a really

(02:26):
cool crew behind and in front of the camera, so
really cool professional setup. So I think it's going to
be fun.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
Well you know this, I speak for the entire metroplex.
We can't get enough Dirk. So I know, Dallas fort Worth,
we are fired up and excited. We can't wait for that.
To that end, I've always thought one of the coolest
things you do is your charity tennis event. Now, what
you do with the Dirt Navitchiki Foundation, you know what
you guys do with that, your family, It's amazing your

(02:57):
heart to give back to the community. But like, just
as a standpoint, I always felt like the tennis event,
and this will be your seventh annual one. It gives
people such access to you because you can kind of
get close to the action and it's fun to watch
you be involved in tennis, which is clearly something that
you love very much. And so you've got this the

(03:19):
next one coming up Saturday, September thirteenth, Banner House, T
Bar m in Dallas. What has you the most excited
about this year's event?

Speaker 3 (03:28):
You know, it's overall it's been fun watching the event grow,
you know. I think when we first did it at SMU,
we didn't really know what this was going to turn into,
and it's been growing every time we've done it. We've
moved locations now to obviously T bar and Banner House
and way from SMU to Formatt's changed, but it's still

(03:49):
that the same fun. Celebrities come out and.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Play, and.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
I think, like you, like you said, the most fun
is not really the tennis part, it's the the interaction
that he's so close to the action. There's some trash
talking going on. We did Mike's last year for the
first time, so guys could actually talk to each other
and talk to the crowds and play.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Off each other.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
So that was super cool and something we're going to
do again this year. Most excited probably about the guys
that always support and come out. Cooper Flax that he's
coming out this year to support, even though he's not
big into tennis, he's more of a golfer, but he
did say he's going to come out and support the events.
So he's going to be out. And some of the

(04:32):
other local legends.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
You know.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
We have Elvis Andrews come out. We have Devin Harris
is going to play. We have Kobe Cotton from Dude Perfect.
So we have some fun guys. Boris Kojo, the actor,
you guys know, he's been to the event a few times,
great tennis player.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
We've got my buddy Nashy come in and.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Like I said, it's so accessible, it's it's so close
to the action.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
So it's a fun.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
We have a fun day with food, drinks, Let's bring
out the whole found and.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
It's gonna be fun.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
Ah.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yes, we love us some big German And that is
just part one of our interview with Dirk coming up
next part two. We can't wait for you to hear this.
Dirk continues next right here on the Eagle, Ben and
Skin Show ninety seven point one The Eagle. Remember you
have to have that iHeart app, which is free with
the talkback feature to win tickets from us, stream the shows,

(05:26):
download podcast. If you've missed anything from the show, you
can always go download the podcast. That iHeart app is essential,
the leader in podcast across the world.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
It is iHeart. But right now it's time for this.
This thing's big. It is so we did interview Dirt Nooviski.
We just played part one. If you miss it, you
can go back and listen to the podcast later. But
every year Ben and I talked to him around this
time because he has his big charity tennis event for

(05:58):
the Dirt Nooviski Foundation. It's happening this Saturday. Ben and
I will be out there. There's tons of celebrities. You
should go check this out. It is awesome and we
would love to see you out there. Go get tickets.
You can go to his instagram, the Swiss forty one
or Dirknoviski Foundation and get tickets. In fact, let's hear

(06:18):
part two of the interview here Dirk, and you'll hear
exactly why you need to go to this. They tell
us in radio, we're supposed to reset our guests, but
I think everybody knows this voice. It's Dirk Novitski here
on the Ben and Skin show. So the tennis center
at SMU, it's an incredible facility and it was a
great place to start the event. But the move to

(06:40):
Banner House, I almost feel I feel like it kind
of leads to even more fun and it being more
intimate and I don't know, more of like a social
gathering and a party at the same time as the tennis.
That ended up being a really good move for you guys.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yeah, you know t Bars, that's been our club where
the kids play there, So eventually we knew we were
going to move there anyways. And you know, like you said,
with SMU is a little with six seven courts next
to each other, and I think we just have a
great set up there at.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
At Banner House.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
We did it last year for the first time there
and it was it was awesome success with just one
show court, not six six courts playing at the same time.
So we felt like it was even more accessible with
one court and everybody was able to pay more attention
to that one court instead of having six games at
the same time and people didn't know what to watch,

(07:31):
so we felt like that was And the biggest thing
is we did it indoor last year. You know, September
here is still so hot. Yes, so some of the
celebrities are like, gosh, this is hot here and it's long,
and so we moved it indoors for the first time
last year. And I think both celebrities and and fans

(07:53):
really appreciate that that move because sitting outside in the.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Sun was was was hot for everybody.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
So uh yeah, I was I was a no brainer
and looking forward to another another great turnout this year.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Oh my god.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
And if you're just listening to this, man, get tickets
to this is it is so incredibly special. It's just
it's a small venue, you know, and so you get
to see everything. And just having Dirk on Mike track
talking trash to people. I think that's worth the price
of admission. But you know, you'd mentioned Cooper Flag coming
out to this as a die hard lifelong MAVs fan.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
So much because I'm like I was, I would hope
that there would be a connection between you know, mister
Maverick and the newest Maverick and that just warms my
heart to see that.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
And so.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
I love that he's going to be here at this thing.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
So if you could help us out a little bit
with what you've seen from him, you know, looking at
him as a basketball player, how do you think his
skill set will transition to the league.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Well, I think he's going to be amazing. I mean,
incredible talent. If you think that, think about he's not
even teen yet, I mean that is incredible. Uh uh,
histicism and skill level, I mean is all already there,
and he's just going to keep keep getting better. Hurt.
He's a workhorse, loves putting in the work, is great,

(09:15):
great work ethics.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
So I think the sky is the limit for him. Uh.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
And you know, the the MAVs are obviously in a
position with with a good team. They have a great
front line, and so I think there's plenty of veterans
on the team that can obviously help him and help
him grow and be there for him. And so I'm happy,
happy for him. And I reached out to him when
he was first drafted and I just wanted to, you know,

(09:43):
welcome him to the city and congratulate him. And uh,
so we've been sort of a little bit in a
loose contact the last few months, and we we reached
out to him to see if he wanted to come
out and uh and play some tennis. But he did
decline on the tennis. But he's he's going to come
out and and support so that that means the world.
And like I said, I'm a phone call away from

(10:05):
him if he needs earning of any ever, any questions,
I'm the first one to be there.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Well, this is great because last year you brought Klay
Thompson out to Maverick fans for the very first time
at your tennis event, and now you're bringing Cooper Flag
out to mad fans at your event. So that's great.
One of the things I'm very interested in though, is
I did watch Joe Kim Noah's dad play tennis. I remember.
To me, if I remember correctly, Yannick Noah was like
at the tail end of that initial class of guys

(10:34):
that put tennis on the map in the eighties, and
I feel like he was at the back end of that.
Oh but well, but let me ask you, when you
know you got there's probably several plays where Joe Kim
Noah covered you on the NBA floor. Did you guys
ever talk tennis back then, because I'm sure you, being
a tennis head, knew all about his dad.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
I was, I loved you, Nick Noel.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
And a little fun fact, his dad's actually now a
per famous musician in France, like filling out THEMS.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yeah he's uh, he's albums out and he's a famous musician.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
But that's just a little fun fact.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
But there he was like an athletic but super fun,
always tried crazy shots. So he's a little bit of
outside the box, but great touch. So he used to
love watching his dad play. And and I've gotten to
know Joe Kimper obviously over our career, but then after afterwards.
He's good friends with Channel Parsons, that whole Florida crew,

(11:33):
so we hung arms in retirement. He's a he's a
good dude. So reached out to him to see if
he wanted that I'll come support he. I think he
said he played a little bit. I'm quite sure how
how good is his skill levels now, but we'll we'll
find out. And basketball wise, I mean, he was such
a competitor. I mean, you guys know him. He was

(11:53):
he was fierce on the defensive end. So I never
really actually stopped and said, hey, I loved your dad because.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
He just so intense in the court.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
But I'll definitely I'll definitely tell him this weekend.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
All right, let's let's get your broadcasting hat back on.
When you when you look at the Mavericks and and
what their chances are in a crowded Western Conference.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
What all has to happen for.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
The Mavericks this year for this to be a really
really special year for mass fans.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Well, I think they had a great off of so
I don't think besides health, there as much that needs
to happen. Obviously, there is some some question marks with
with health, with with Kyrie.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
When is he coming back.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
I saw online that he's actually shooting already, so maybe
he's ahead of schedule.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
That will be amazing.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
But honestly, if you look at their lineup, if when
Kyrie comes back, they're loaded on every position, at least
two or three guys on ever position, they can keep
the pressure.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Up all game long. Cooper, you can kind of, you know,
fit him in everywhere.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
I heard Jay kids say you want to play him
at some point, but I mean he can really flat
out play on every position on the court, So, uh,
it's going to be it's gonna be a great lineup
once once stay healthy, if a D stays healthy, and
obviously liveliness to stay healthy and but I think that
to me, that's the biggest question mark. But if they

(13:16):
are healthy, I mean, they have a lineup that not
a lot of teams want to see, I believe. So
we'll see how the how the season plays out. But
I think they made some good moves obviously signing PJ
and signing Gafford and was was it was a key
and and and good offseason moves. And I think they're

(13:36):
situated really well for for the next few years here.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
And finally, Derk, before we let you go, we need
to let everybody know where they can get tickets for
this event. Ben and I are going to be there.
We can't encourage people enough to go to this fun
event Saturday, September thirteenth, it's the seventh annual Dirtoviski Foundation
Tennis Classic. Where can everybody go get tickets?

Speaker 3 (13:57):
The easiest is probably if you go to our grand
page Dark Nowitzki Foundation and you can just click the
link and get tickets.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
So, uh, yeah, come on out.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Like I said, it's a fun day, fun event looking
and have some plenty of celebrities come out and enjoy it.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
So we'll see you guys there.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
Awesome, Hey, thanks so much for the time, Derek appreciated,
and we'll see at the event.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
Oh, thank you guys, thanks for helping out as always.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Always incredible to catch up with the big german. And
we will be out there on Saturday. Ben and I
cannot wait to be a part of this.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
You know, we had a we posted a video the
time I got to meet Tom Cruise and posted a
big video of the anxiety that led up to that.
This will be our first interaction with Cooper Flag. Oh yeah,
because Cooper Flags. Because you have an interviewed to me
or done anything.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
With him, have you.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
I haven't interviewed him yet. Know you had him on
Draft Draft night. Yeah, we did talk to him on
Draft night. An he wasn't in the room with us,
he was in New York, but we did. We did.
It was like four of us interviewing.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
Okay, I mean I'm as excited about him as I've
been excited about any thing that's ever happened in DFW SPA.
It's huge, because even Luca wasn't the number one overall
pick No.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
In fact, you know, we're thinking maybe we need a
big man instead.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Clearly Luca was a guy. But Cooper Flag is can't miss.
He's going to be nineteen years old during the basketball
season and he's can't miss. So yeah, come on out
and see Cooper Flag and hang with me and Ben.
All right, thank you to Dirk Noviski. That is going
to do it for us today. I'll never forget the
time that KT actually got to interview Dirk one on one.

(15:32):
He stood on a chair, he looked Dirk dead in
his German eyes, and he said.

Speaker 5 (15:37):
Thank you for participating in our Texas Iconic Food Bracket.
We'll see you tomorrow with more that. What could that
have been? It's just amazing stuff from Kevin there. We'll
have more Kevin tomorrow. Christina, are you gonna stick around? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (15:54):
All right, stick around and listen to Christina right here
on the egle here you're going

Speaker 2 (16:00):
I want to get my sack back, dude, you all right,
