Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now it's time for bas Sweet Day Up Day,
featuring veteran news anchor kt F on tweets.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Here are the important stories he's currently tracking from around
the world.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Yeah, let's get it.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yeah, fireworks will be a big topic this weekend. In fact,
tonight is Kaboomtown, I believe, which is weird. It's the
third on Thursday. But I guess they like to get
ahead of it.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
They do it the night before.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
They get ahead of it. Now you might be going,
can I do fireworks? And the answer is there's a
lot of gray area here.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
The answer should be no.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Big article in the Dallas Morning News that was I
thought a really good article because this is asking this
basic question that we've all just assumed is fine. You
might want to check if it's legal first before you
do fireworks. All right, here's what they claimed, and this
blew my nuts off. Last year, Dallas police confiscated nearly

(01:00):
nine pounds of fireworks.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Damn.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
In most cities you must be at least five thousand
feet from city limits to set off fireworks. That's Dallas,
Colin Tarrant, Denton, Rockwall in all the places.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
It seems like a dangerous thing too, because that you're
just out by the dry grass.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Yeah, I don't get it. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Luckily there's no burn bands this year. We have had
that recently. We've been good enough rain that's really, thank god,
not a huge issue hopefully. I mean some stuff will
catch on fire, that's just what happens on this day.
Someone will lose a finger, like on Monday Show. There
will be a story and we will discuss how many
limbs were lost and whether how this weekend goes, and

(01:39):
whether or not it'll impact their upcoming season and how
many sacks they'll get.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Oh JPP like Justin beeerful?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Is m yep?

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Also, keep the crowd small. If you don't have a license,
insurance and a permit, setting off fireworks in front of
more than fifty people without those docums can result in
an arrest.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Did you know that? I didn't know that.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Well, back in the day, we had firework shows without
permits or licenses and there were definitely more than fifty
people there. It was crazy, just like in your backyard
because you went out to the lake.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Oh yeah, yeah, it always went out to the lake
to do it.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
There's always you know, we always have friends who who
get really excited about this and they go load up
on fireworks, probably at that like at that stand that
got robbed, that type of deal, and they spend a
lot of money and then you all get together and
they fire up those fireworks. But that always makes me
uneasy because of the danger associated the idea that you
blow your hand off, you know, but also the fact

(02:36):
that it could start a fire.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
And you can't trust these products.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Man, it's not like these were made like these aren't
like these are all of its black market right like you.
I mean, it's not like you're going to a best
Buy and you're buying them and they guarantee the quality.
I'm you're buying them from a kool aid stand on
the side of the road.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
I think.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
I think they're just cheaply made products, right Like in
other words.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
There's no governing bodies saying yep, these are good to go,
these are safe.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
I uh, I'm amazed that that number is fifty. Yeah,
I mean I thought it would be People thought it
would have been ten. Kind of a weird number too, right, Yeah, dude,
you want to you want to know the hard truth too.
Drones are better nowadays. I think drones are better. I
would agree with that, dud. My kids are so ho

(03:28):
home on fireworks. Yeah yeah, but once you've seen it, Yeah,
but I don't.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Okay, let's I wonder about the expense because I know
some of these shows are like one hundred and two
hundred grand. Like I bet Kaboom Town spent two hundred
thousand dollars on their fireworks.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
I think they did that easily.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
I mean, I know I used to go to one
at Lakewood all the time, and they dropped well into
six figures.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
They're not doing snakes and sparklers, you know. Yeah, we're
going artillery shells here. Like you go to an FC
Dallas game, they put on a drone show. It's it's
it gives you chills.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
It's so incredible, right, But I don't know how much
it costs per show, but I don't think it's two
hundred and fifty grand per show.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
There was a company a couple of years ago, and
this I believe this was up in Denton. They did
that firework show and it didn't go well. Oh, I
guess they got out of order with their were hitting
their spots or whatever. It was kind of a weird
drone show.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
So I guess there's a little risk that goes with
that too.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Plus everyone that fires these things off is drunk, not
everyone everyone. Now I feel like the professional that's part
of like your license that you gets, like, all right,
how much you're going to be drinking?

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Are you going to be drinking less than a case? Right?

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Candles with some friends, let's go, it's dangerous. Some husker
dues NFC daisies. They're not called hoosker duos. No husker dues.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
And now, with the way social media is, you can
find video footage of someone blowing their hand.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Oh yeah, and last year, all morning, last year emergency
rooms treated higher lower game? Here how many fireworks related
injuries in Dallas Fort Worth in the nation, in the nation.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Who goes first?

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Christina? I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Five hundred higher? Okay? Wait, oh, we're doing the higher
lower game. Okay.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Three thousand, ten thousand, lower, eight thousand, lower, seven thousand, lower,
six thousand, lower, five five thousand, sorry, fifty three hundred,
fifty five hundred, hi, fifty six hundred Christina.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
License, you won.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Either five hundred dollars in cash, fifteen hundred dollars shopping
spree or two fifty thousand dollars cars.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
I'll take it, thank you. I wonder which one it'll
be get that manager on the phone.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Good.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
All right, There you have it. There's your weekly weekday update.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
