Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, if you got somebody in your life that's
struggling with joint pain, we're going to give you a
number for them to call. Eighty six ten. That's for
QC Kinetics. Stay tuned for more on that. We'll get
back into some Cowboys football. How are Cowboys fans feeling
right now? We have a recent poll that could give
us some insight there. And then with the kids going
back to school today all across Dallas Fort Worth, we

(00:23):
talk about the best high school movies of all time.
It's gonna be a fun rest of the way here
on the Ben and Skin Show. But right now it's
time for this.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
It's time, all.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Right.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Bad news for Jack in the Box.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Their stock is in an absolute freefall, and there's an
article about it that we will now discuss.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Was this in the Dallas Morning News?

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yes, yes, indeedy So, Texas is the restaurant chain's second
largest market.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
I had no idea.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
So they have multiple DFW locations Jack the Box does
here in the Metroplex, and basically, year to date, Jack
in the Box shares are down a staggering fifty eight percent.
So the stock is down fifty eight percent. They're in
some trouble now. They're based in San Diego, and they

(01:19):
have been struggling in recent years, not just of late,
they have been struggling. They recently announced a plan to
pay down their debt and shut down between one hundred
and fifty and two hundred underperforming stores. Now that could
have trickle down effects here on Texas. Is Jack in
the Box's second largest market. Like I said, when you
look at their biggest market, skit is in Texas is Houston.

(01:42):
They have ninety eight locations in Houston alone.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
What I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Understand ninety eight Jacket the Box ever, Houston.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
It's like how many Starbucks do they have too? You know,
it's like every nine.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Know, But like I get what you're saying, but it
just feels like coffee is a different need than.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Jack in the Box. Yep, definitely, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Yeah. So yeah, So let's see four Texas cities rank
among the top ten US cities with the largest number
of Jack in the Box locations. So Houston is number
one for them, the most in Houston of any city.
Dallas is number five. There's thirty eight Jack in the
Boxes here, San Antonio seven, Fort Worth is nine, with

(02:23):
twenty two Jack in the Boxes just.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Fort Worth seems like a lot.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah. Yeah. They say that one of their problems is
some of the stores are too close to one another. Obviously, Yeah,
but let's see, there's a quote in here, Jack in
the Box significantly over indexes with Hispanic guests, who, especially
in our core markets, face uncertainty and have pulled back
on their spending. This issue is having an outsized impact

(02:53):
on our sales. I also saw a thing where so
one of the things is Jack in the Box prides
itself on variety and so like compared to other fast
food places. Okay, like think about In and Out and
how small their menu is. Now that's just in and Out.
But like the guy was talking about the fact that
we promise we have egg rolls twenty four hours a day.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
I didn't know they had. I didn't either until I
saw this.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
And it's like, so when you have all this different stuff,
it makes the back of house chaotic. Because like I
was talking to my sister's in the restaurant business, and
I was talking to her, she was like, I'm interested
in scaling down the menu so we can master more
things and be more efficient. Hey, we offer everything, and
so Jaging the Box is like we're promising everybody that

(03:39):
will have egg rolls all the time. Why do they
need to promise that. They don't need to promise that.
They need to be like Canes. Just master one thing,
focus on that, get that down. There's no need to
have this giant menu. But honestly, I'm not going to
single out Jack in the Box. If you're listening to this,
you can think about which restaurants sound like this. But
there are a lot of times I'll go to a

(03:59):
fast food place and it feels more like a food truck,
like there's one person, yeah, doing a ton, Like yeah,
there's been widespread layoffs. These places are so lean and
there's just they're not well staffed. Sometimes it's hard to
like communicate your order exactly. You know that that can
tie into it as well, which can be complicated. But

(04:21):
there have been a few times and I don't eat buns,
and so if I go to fast food, it's because
I'm trying to get some protein on the fly. Just
eat burger patties, And you can't really hide or disguise
a bad burger if you're not eating the bun.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Like if there's the.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Bun and condiments and let us tomato whatever you can
kind of hide a burger that's not great. And so
there have been times where I've gone to some of
these fast food restaurants that are now being run more
like a food truck to where I've tasted the burger
and I'm like, I'm not finishing this.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
This tastes like old meat there.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
And again, maybe they're just all a lot of them
are dying and they're just not doing well, so they're
doing anything they can do survive.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
But I mean there's some places that are.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Thriving, Like you go to Chick fil A, They're printing money,
They're having no issue giving you perfect customer service. I
don't know what the deal is. Maybe the demand is
just higher. Yeah, and the demand is high for Chick
fil A. They got a great product. And also, like
Chick fil A is a place that keeps it relatively simple. Yeah,
I mean, they have options on the menu, but it's
not like they have a ton of options. Hef We

(05:23):
talked about that with Taco Bell, Christina, you love Taco Bell.
Taco Bell at times goes, okay, we're scaling our menu
back down, right.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
They upset some people, but they bring it back.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah, there's back. So man, I always say, go Jack
in the Box. They leaned in heavily on marketing the stoners. Yeah,
I mean I thought, you know, and that you were
talking about them indexing heavily with the Hispanic market. I
never knew that about them. I always thought about their
media campaigns, their commercials and appealing to stoners. I have
wondered that because there's times where you know, you have

(05:53):
a hard time speaking English to get your order in
and it's you know, I was like, okay, well, you
know there must be a ton of Hispanic customers coming
here because they're not even worried about it.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Oh yeah, that's a good So I'm.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
The one who's like the idiot coming here trying to
order without being able to speak Spanish. You're an idiot
trying to order it a speaking English at a fast
food place in America?

Speaker 2 (06:15):
What a crazy? Was crazy? Good luck, Jack in the Box.
We're all pulling for you, buddy,
