I am in a wonderful mood, Benjamin. It's a Friday.

I don't know what could be better than this. Yeah,
And whenever we're out here and you you know, we
get here on a Friday to do our show and
you see people filing in, you know that they're about
to have so much fun. Maybe they're coming to a concert,
you know, Maybe they're coming out here because they want
to be here for a million dollar drawing. Maybe they're
coming out here, you know, just to have an amazing time.

Play some poker, throw some cards around, some blackjack, maybe
throw some dice around. But you just I'm envious of
ever because I'm not staying here overnight tonight, and so
I'm envious everyone who is.

You know who my crew is. It's Emmett, Darren Woodson,
Troy Aikman, and Pudge.

When I get here with my crew, all four want
to do something different. Emmittt shows up in a suit.
He wants to go to the steakhouse, you know, have
some cocktails.

bowling ball and he wants to go bowling. Yeah, he's
a great bowler.

Troy shows up looking like Jason aldeen and he wants
to go to a country show at the Grand Theater.

And he loves playing Roulette and go Red fourteen yeah,
Blue thirty two Yeah.

And then and then Pudge wants to go hang out
at the swim Up Bar, and he's got the inflatable
you know, beach ball.

And tal somno around him. Yeah. I mean it's like
everybody does something different when they show up.

Yeah, everybody, that's your crew, that's my everybody, and there's
something for everyone to do here. It's where the real
players play. You're also hearing a voice that may sound

may be able to pick up the only Texas in there.

acoustic guitar. I want to hear every I could kind
of call it outside when you hang out on the place,

think you'd crush it.

I liked what Teresa was doing there where she was
getting origin stories skin. Do you have a rock origin story,
the thing that got you into rock music for the
first time?

Speaker 1 (04:52):
I had?

Speaker 4 (04:53):
I kind of This is a two parter one so
and it depends on how heavy the rock music is, right,
But I did have a ma get me my first ever.
It was my dad's really good friend, Charles Sterling rest
in peace. He made me my very first mixtape when
I was seven years old, called R two D two
Where Are You? And it had an assortment of songs
on it that he felt like I would like, including

some Credence, Clearwater Revival two looking out My.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Front Door and so it's songs like that on it.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
But then very quickly after that, my neighbor across the street,
who was four years older than me, friends with my
sister play I had a drum kit, and he got
me into Kiss because he was playing Kiss music, and
so I went to my first Kiss concert. I would
have been nine years old, I think, right. I was
kissed for me too. That first got me into Rocket.

(05:43):
We were in like a pretend band and my all
my little friends.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
We'd get up on the fireplace, take the fireplace tools
and act like they were guitars, right, and we pretend
like that little one inch or two inch brick fireplace
was a stage, and we were really into Kiss. What
about you KT? I mean my parents had like ACDC,
you know, records and stuff, but also like I remember
watching t like MTV at a very young age because

my mom was you know, kind of young too.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
So you watched MTV at the crib? Yeah, Do you
remember where you first saw MTV? Ben, Oh, I remember
Friday Night Videos.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yeah. First, I don't remember the first time I saw MTV.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
The first time I saw MTV was at SMU basketball
camp after sixth grade because we didn't have cable in
our neighborhood, and so it was my first time to
go to camp where it's like not in the wilderness,
you know, it was out on the SMU campus, and
so the dorm had a TV and it had MTV
on it.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
So when we would walk into those dorms, MTV was
on twenty four to seven, and it was the first
time I was somewhere where.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
MTV was on all the time, and it just I
wouldn't get cable for another three years, and I just
remember going, oh my god, when do I get this?

Speaker 1 (06:56):
So kt it was MTV. Yeah, I always got too
close to the screen when I dicked to love my
Robert Palmer came off. Yeah, you try to get close
to those ladies that were just singing back up and
so couldn't handle those ladies. Christina, what about you? What
Chris Dana, what's the thing for you that brought you
into enjoying rock?

Speaker 5 (07:12):
I would say my dad.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
He listened to a lot of Southern rock like Lynyrd,
skinnerd CCR was mentioned, Stevie Ray Vaughan's Easy Top, all
of that, and I grew up listening to Lone Star too,
so that kind of helped.

Speaker 1 (07:25):

Right before the show, I crammed the new Ramona Shelbourne
article about Lebron James because earlier today her and Brian
Windenhorst were on ESPN saying the Golden State Warriors are
prepping to make a run at at Lebron James on
the trademarket WHOA. And it's in conjunction with an article

that she dropped, And I'm just gonna give you guys
the highlights. Basically, what the article is is Lebron James
gets it and he doesn't blame Luca, but he's but
hurt that he's not involved in their plans. I heard
that they're gm polinkas this is the first time that

they haven't run any plans by him at all, but
they ran everything by Luca.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Is that true? May fourth Luca and Rob Polinka and
Laura Beth and I think Bill Duffy. I can't remember
who the fourth was. No, it was JJ Reddick.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Uh went to some restaurant you sneak in the back
and Paulinka had a big binder and showed Luca everything
that they could do that they may want to do
all that.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Uh, Lebron found out about it because it was on TMZ.
They because because you also want to get like a
nice appetizer platter, yeah, and quality meal and it apparently
this place has an amazing wine, which is you know
Lebron loves wine and Southwestern girls.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
So uh so there's that.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
And then they didn't even begin to talk to him
about an extension beyond one year, so they didn't run
any of their plans by him.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Uh.

And you know earlier in the year when they tried
to trade for Mark Williams and the medical doctors pulled
it back. And remember everybody went to Lebron said, well,
what did you think about this? He goes, well, me
and Anthony Davis were trying to get a center for years,
no one checked with us.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Luca gets here and you immediately do this. You know
he's He didn't say, but that was the implication. And
then Rich Paul when he made his statement after Lebron
opted in about Lebron would like to be somewhere competitive.
Before he released that statement, he reached out to Laura
Beth Seeger, who is Lebron's I mean, Luca's basically brand

manager and endorsement manager. Not she doesn't do the deals
for the NBA, she does his endorsement stuff. Rich Paul
has a relationship with her and reached out to her
and said, hey, I want you to know we're doing
this has nothing to do with Luca. Lebron respects Luca,
but we're just going to handle this the way we
want and so no hard feelings.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
So when someone like Windhorst and Shelburne are writing these articles,
they're very interesting.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
It's pretty clear. Oh and Lebron also had a flurry
of social media posts about how much he loves Cleveland
and going home.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
He had like four different posts. Can somebody do trade?
I mean, he opted in, so how does somebody trade
for him? Come up with fifty two million dollars worth
of the salary going back the other way.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
So how does that? How did Golden State make that happen?
Jimmy Butler? So you couldn't have Jimmy Butler and stuff
in him?

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Uh No, Well, I mean the Lakers have to want
the deal, right Like, I mean, I'm sure they would
want Kaminga and maybe they would, but they also don't
want to strap themselves with a bunch of guys they
don't want because they want to build next year, by
the way, right, they don't have Luca beyond this year?

Speaker 1 (12:30):
So could could the Mavericks get in on this if
they wanted to do?

Speaker 4 (12:34):
No, man, I'm not saying I should they, I'm saying
if that's what their plan was, Yeah, they want if
he's going to force the trade, if we want to
make another bad deal with the Lakers, we absolutely can
and we can now arm Luca with everything he needs
to kick our ass.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Right, all the guys that you brought in here to Yeah,
because the PJ deals they're talking, that's going to come
down and that's a tradable deal yep, right, who else? Yeah,
you can give them up?

Speaker 4 (13:00):
So he needs the center. He needs a love threat center, right,
let's give him a love threat. He needs a great
defensive player on the wing to hide his defensive Yeah, let's.

The vision is to I'll say this, the vision was
to be a mauling defensive team. To trade two of
your best defensive players for a forty one year old
that doesn't want to defend anymore seems to be counterintuitive
to the vision. But you know, I'm just a guy

I always forget that John Ham's and that because they're
always focusing on Billy Bob. Yeah, but they are, and
this a hit a little close close to home for me. Literally,
they're they shut down a bit of the town of
Jacksborough the other day. Do you guys know anything about Jacksborough?

Jack Jack owns it. It's his burrow. Yeah, I don't
know why I know that. Why do I know that?
I mean, they did get hit by a tornado a
couple of years ago and that was a story. But
they are the home We've talked a lot about Burger Wars.
They're the home of the greatest Burger world. Really Schmidgerberger,
no herds hurts, Herdsburgers, rental car and and those who

know no herds Burger. So when you guys come out,
can you spell that, When you guys come out to
Olney for my big reunion show in a couple of years,

is Landman was there filming because it's a lot easier
to go out in the boonies and film is to
shut off a street of downtown Fort Worth. That's where
land is. Not believe that John Hamm and Billy Bob
Thornton and whoever else are hanging out forty minutes from
my hometown of Olney.

Right, Well, it's so much easier to create content in Texas. Right,
there's the state income tax. I'm sure that's a benefit
in that why so many people are trying to move
production facilities here. There is a lot of tax benefits
and business benefits. I mean, that's why Austin turned into
mini Hollywood. Yeah, but dude, that show is great.

It's cheesy, it's formulaic, whatever, it's a nighttime soap opera,
all those things. But Billy Bob Thornton is such a
compelling actor just about anything he's in is going to
be good because he's got an I don't give an
f vibe about him that makes you think, oh, he
really doesn't give enough even about this production. Yeah, he's
just or you're just seeing a real guy like I

don't know. It just seems so real and authentic, so
truly Texan. Why wouldn't they.

Spin John ham off of that show and call it
ham Man ham Man is He's got a lot of
ham Sorry to ruin it for you, but pretty sure
he died. Oh he did. He did his character. Oh
and Jared, because Jerry's story was so exhausting. I think
Jerry talked Jared. Jerry kept talking and teared up, and
then John Ham's character was dead and flatlined. John Hamrick

black talking John Hamm's like pull the plug. This is
I'm an Eagles fan. Jerry was great in that. And dude,
what's her name? Still has her Fastball the whip cream
girl from your old football Ally hard Yeah, yeah, Ali
Harder was she still got it? So next year America
turns two fifty. You guys know that. In honor two fifty,

America and HBO have put together a sketch comedy show
from the production company of Barack Obama with Larry David.
So Larry David's going to hang out with Barack Obama
and they're going to make some American history comedy sketches
and it'll be able to sitch comedy show on HBO.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
You know what this and with it being sketch comedy,
to me been what I thought about when I heard
this is mel Brooks take on the Bible. Okay, you know,
and he did History of Time or whatever that was
called Melbrooks What was that called mel Brooks History of Time?
So either one of these guys are they going to
be in the sketches Larry David.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Larry David will be in every one of them, probably
like doing sketch comedy, like doing characters like us to
know yeaeah wow. I bet it's more in the form
of like I think you should leave probably though yeah
maybe yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
But Brock and Michelle have a big production company, like
they did that thing with.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
Joey Roberts and Nathan Hawks. Yeah, They've done a bunch
of stuff, so they're they're in that space. Uh. And
Larry David, he didn't get sketches on, but he wrote
for U S and l for several years. I like it.
This is exciting. Man, get Larry David back on television.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
All right, good stuff coming up in just a few minutes,
we go around the sports. We'll discuss the Cooper Flag debut.

Cooper Flag is his name. And we saw his first
game last night in the Summer Leaf. Did you watch it?
I did, I didn't watch all of it. Look, Kate,
let's's just get right to it.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
He didn't have a great game if you just think
like like being five of twenty one, but man, he
had some highlight plays and you know, even set up
for the game. Wasn't his best game and whatnot. There's
lots to get into. But there was a moment in
this game where he kind of had the ball in transition.
He kind of got roughed up at like mid court,

and he spun around and he went in and he
tried to dunk the ball on the universe and it
didn't go in.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
But it was a great defensive play.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
It was one of the most aggressive dunk attempts I've
ever seen, and like I don't know that any Maverick
has ever gone up and tried to dunk on someone's
soul like that.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
I mean, Finley was a ferocious dunker. Tony Dumas was
a good dunk.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
It was kind of a bigger Tony Doomon with this,
A big big man who tried to dunk on the universe.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Dude. It was insane. What even though it didn't go in,
I loved the highlights.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
Yeah, he's a phenomenal athlete, I mean a phenomenal athlete
and that was on full display there.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Man.

Shout out to the Lakers for just being like, mab,
what do you need us to do to help you?

Speaker 1 (20:02):
You want us to trap him in mid court in
a summer league game? You got it? Yeah, thank you
Lakers for making this about what the Mavericks need to
get out of summer league. That was awful nice of
them for them to like flood a guy. What the vision? Yeah,
I guess so, Hey, we got a point guard on
the floor, but we're going to run the offense through

our four. We've told the world we're going to do that,
So we need you to flood him, attack him, make
him pick up his dribble and do it while a
team's not running an offense. Uh, thank you, Lakers. What
are you saying here? What is all this the Shenanigans
you're bringing here? Well, it's great.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Like Jason Kidd had a plan for what Cooper Flag
needed to get out a summer league and the Lakers
completely obliged by I mean, he got trapped at mid
court on the first possession of a summer league game.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Have you ever seen a trap in a summer league game?
Have I ever watched the summer league?

Speaker 3 (20:54):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
I've never even watched the summer basketball game. Yeah, that's
what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
Like, in other words, the Lakers were very keen on
trying to stop Cooper Flag, and so they presented challenges
that were beneficial for his experience. Jason kidds sat up
there at the press conference when we introduced Cooper Flag
and said, we want to put him in uncomfortable positions
immediately to accelerate his growth. So the Lakers trapped him

(21:18):
at mid court to start a summer league game.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
It was awesome. It's such a bad combination because the
basketball is bad. And then they put Don Jones there
to broadcast it as well, and I didn't love joining
that mar Jones, Sorry, no, I'm with you. I didn't
enjoy that too much. So it was hard to watch
the whole thing. So I did not watch the second half. Yeah,
but you KNOWX got to see him running. I just
didn't want him to get hurt. There was a couple
of times I did notice where I think, like the

physicality is going to be something to watch early, Like
I think he'll get used to him, like blok out
attempts and he kind of got you.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
Do you know who that was defending him, No, Bronnie,
Uh well, he about when Bronnie was fouling him. Bronny
got switched off to him late in the game, but
early in the game he was defended by Darry.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
That is a guy that went instead of going to college,
he went to the G League. He was the first
guy to do it.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
And I don't know if you guys remember he had
interned for a sneaker company.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
I can't remember if it was, you know, Rebocker.

Speaker 4 (22:14):
So, in other words, instead of going to college, he
went straight out of high school, started earning money, went
to the G League. He was in the Thunder organization,
and so he's I'm guessing that he's twenty four, twenty five,
I'm not sure his age, but he's a grown man
and he's very physical, and he's very long, and he's
very athletic.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
And he attacked him there.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
He picked up two fouls at mid court in the
second quarter trying to defend him.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
So that was good. That's that's what I want out
of this for Cooper Flag. I want physical challenges. I mean,
do you realize how hard it is? You know? One
of the things that Tim tim Legler was great.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
He's good, He's really good, and he made some amazing observations.
And I was watching this and I'm watching Cooper Flag
and he's at the top of the key with a
live dribble and there's not a person on the floor
for the Dallas Mavericks that's moving.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
And then there's a guy that like, what are you
telling a guy to do?

Speaker 4 (23:15):
You're telling a guy, okay, go one on five now,
Like we're not moving, we're not running sets. This guy
came over and set a screen. I didn't know the guy.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
He apparently used to be in the Lakers organization and
didn't know what spot of the floor to go to
after his screen like this is why summer league basketball
is bad. So it puts Cooper Flag in a very
unique position to try to figure out how do I
make the most of this. They want me to run
an offense and the situation is not conducive to that.

(23:44):
So where immediately he's got all these things that he's
got to figure out. And if you one of the
things is as the game went on, he looked exhausted
to me. And that shot he took with nine seconds
to go, that was an airball fading after doing all

older brother play really really well for a team that

The Mavericks were trying to trade up in the second
round get a second round pick to draft him. They failed,
and then they were able to sign him to a

you know, trying to be a facilitator. Like one guy
is a point guard and has been a point guard

Dorian Finney Smith is a pretty good three point shooter now.
Now now he doesn't shoot off the dribble, but he
catch and shoot. He was atrocious when he got here,
and that's because he didn't have the mechanics for it.
And the Mavericks meticulously worked with him on his mechanics
to turn him into a good shooter. I don't have
any worries that Cooper flag excuse me, will eventually be

a good shooter from outside, a good three point shooter.
I just think it's probably unlikely to expect him to
hit higher than thirty three thirty four percent this year.
I think it'll be an adjustment period for him, and
I think he'll probably end up spending all of next
offseason working on his shot mechanics and then come back

in year two and be like a thirty seven thirty
eight percent shooter, and that'll gradually keep going up. How
much do you expect to see him bringing the ball up?
Does it depending on if he has success doing it
here in these early tests.

thing like one of the reasons the MAVs got Kyrie
