and Anthony Davis says this and all that, and there
is one particular angle I wanted to get into, and
I wanted to make a comparison to try to hopefully
not only get you guys excited, but to get myself
excited about possibility. That's what training camp in preseason is,

And so it was great to be getting ready to
present this to you guys and instead get distracted by
Daniel Gafford missing all of preseason with an ankle sprain. Well,
that means you can't have a bigger injury. Yeah, that's true.

I was shocked that it wasn't Anthony Davis. I mean honestly,
I'm like, Oh, somebody got hurt and it's not Anthony Davis.
This is shocking. So this is Thursday, We've had two
days of practice, and that's what we have, a three
week injury. Let me let me read this to you

because I think it really puts things into perspective. Kidd
also said PJ. Washington bumped his head but should be
available for Friday's practice. Brandon Williams suffered a hamstring strain
and we'll miss one week. Did you guys see his
post with the heartburn? No, there was a lot of
MAVs fans. I mean, Brandon Williams is not a well
followed guy in mav world, not yet, not yet, but

like on the first day of practice, he posted a
picture of his heartbreaking Why I'm assuming because of this
hamstring strain because he's severe. Yeah, he's gonna miss a week,
and I don't know. Those things are always like the
soft tissue injuries, you'd never know. I like him. I
like him too, but he's in a position battle like
if Dennis Smith Junior is gonna make the roster, it's

gonna be beating him out. I like him more than Hardy.
I like him, man, he could score. Yeah, I don't
disagree with that at all. Ben, I don't know what
to make of Hardy anymore either. When they signed Okay,
keep in mind, Hardy had the best preseason of any
Maverick last year, like, and then they signed him in
a six million year. I was like, that guy's getting

ready drop fifteen a game off the bench, and then
he got injured and never had an impact. And then okay,
so let me pick this back up with the Brandon Williams. Uh,
Brandon william strain hamstring well miss a week. Dante Xim
has also missed both practices because of an undisclosed reason.

Now I think about his two years here. Yeah, he's
been available half the time of his entire NBA career.
He's the Anthony Davis of guards. Then we have this

Dallas More News. The News witnessed Washington being escorted out
of the gymnasium on Tuesday by a member of the
Mavericks medical staff and a team security officer midway through

the practice session. Yeah, Gafford was spotted walking gingerly on
Wednesday with his right ankle wrapped while the rest of
the Mavericks practice inside the facility, having comesy practices. It's
just it's based on everyone said the same thing. We
need to have a healthy season, and this is just

we're two days in. Yeah, but the Cooper flag highlights
are amazing. They're fine. He's everywhere, He's everywhere. And the
thing that I really wanted to talk about because I
didn't have when they were first saying here's the names
that are available for the Mavericks to go get with
their mid level exception. I wasn't big on De'angelo Russell,

and that's because of his career, Like, he's incredibly talented.
I think he was the second player picked when he
came out. I can't remember his top three compared to
James Harden. And if you go and he had an
All Star year, he had one year where he made
the All Star team. If you go and look at
his numbers, last year was a train wreck. But they're
mostly solid. And for what the Mavericks need, playmaking and shooting,

that's what he does. And I started thinking about I
was reading Anthony Davis as his boy like they are friends,
and Anthony Davis is like, y'all are sleeping on this guy.
He's going to be huge for this team. He came
to me and said he is ready to be a
part of this championship team here and that's why we
went and got him. Wow, Anthony Davis. Yeah, they played

together in LA I knew that, but I didn't know
Anthony Davis was like running the front office. I dig it, Okay.
Uh So what it started making me think of because
when you have a real talented player that everyone goes, oh,
that guy's just a gunner. He's a he's a you know,
not a valuable player because he takes low percentage shots,
blah blah blah. He's just out for points. I immediately

start thinking about Monte because that was man. Nobody wanted
montelisaway Junior to go ahead. Yeah, yeah, they're no, no, no.
I called him a gun or too. Yeah, and they're
a little bit different in that Tim wasn't a playmaker, right,
not a point guard. He can't but he couldn't create
with his handle. But Monte never ran an offense. You guys,

ever hear don Nelson talking about Montelis in Golden State,
I'm sure I have. It used to drive don Nelson
crazy because Monte quote unquote didn't want to be what
I wanted him to be. If he had just listened
to me, he would have been one of the best
players in the league. And it was like Monte not
wanting to be a point guards, man, just let me
do what I do and it's and as he got older,
he realized that's probably not smart. I need to figure

out a way to fit in. And he was great
here in Dallas, and I'm my hopes because of what
the Mavericks need and the type of player that he
is and him having some opportunities to play with people
he likes that we can get way more out of
him than I think any of us expect. That weak
