Speaker 1 (00:00):
I don't know if it's good that I've already had

(00:01):
three meals by four fifteen, but I am so happy
to be here at Roy Hutchins Original Barbecue and Trophy Club.
We're here lots of great reasons to come join us.
We're upstairs, come on through. Not only are we gonna
be given away see either in Daughtry tickets, but you
got to be here to win it.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
We got tickets to the State Fair. And even better
than all of that, three people, oh yeah, let's call
it for that.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Three people are gonna win Texas Twinkies for a year
where we're gonna be drawing at the end of the night.
You just can come sign up. They'll let you know,
but come get signed up for that. Those Texas Twinkies
are amazing, and we're celebrating Texas Twinkie Day, so you
can get a year's supply if.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
You are lucky.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
By the way, the great Mark Fabers here, CEO Texas
Motor Speedway in the house. How great is a great
to see you? He said, He came up here with
a bunch of pit passes. So if you just come
talk to him, he'll hand him out.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Is that right?

Speaker 1 (00:57):
All right?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Okay, that's right this weekend. That's a nice hookup.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Man. Okay, we got lots to get to, but right
now it's time for this around the sports KT fun
Twins as all the sports.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yes, all right, I'll be Kevin for a little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
The Mavericks wrapped up their preseason last night against the
Lakers in Las Vegas, and they blew them out in
the second half after trailing pretty much the entire game
against their backups like they had their I mean, it
looks like Ben that they are going to start the
season with both PJ. Washington Junior and Cooper Flag, starting

(01:40):
with Cooper Flag as the point guard.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
I think I love it. It's it's like a.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Whole new offense for the Mavericks and they're just getting
the rebound and going like it doesn't even matter. It's
not they're not waiting for a tiny point guard to
come walk around. They're all shot blockers and great defenders
and they just go, go go. But it's it's interesting.
It's not I'm not saying there's no picking rolls. There
obviously are picking rolls, but it's not as much as

(02:05):
I seem to recall. There's so much cutting and back
cutting and good ball movement and it's just good smart basketball.
I'm not you know, obviously having Luca is so special,
but there's no ball dominant player. The ball is moving around.
So I would think that coaches would love this offense, right, Yeah,
And I think it's gonna take a while to get
used to it, because look, you know, you don't want

(02:25):
to overact react to preseason. The offense looks infinitely better
when Ryan Nemhart is in. Yeah, you know, Yeah, dude,
I like him a lot. I hope he gets burned.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
I like him.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
The only problem is that he tiny, tiny heat tiny,
and like I'll give you the difference. He tiny without
being a great athlete, right, and so like when you
watch Brandon Williams, who also tiny, he's so quick, right
that he can cause problems on defense, Nemhart gonna get hunted.
But the feel for passing to guys and getting them

(02:58):
the rock, he's you see why he led the nation
in assists. Like he knows how to find guys, get
them the ball in the shot pocket, in rhythm.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, just a phenomenal passer. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I love watching him play, and they are better on
offense with him. But there's a transition period because they're
not gonna have Kyrie for a little while, so they're
gonna figure it out.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
So you're gonna hear this all year long. You're gonna hear.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Everyone that covers the MAVs talking about six seconds or less,
Like that's what you're gonna hear over and over it.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Trying to get the ball or try to get a
shot off in the first six seconds.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Wow, it's a play on what Mike D'Antoni did in Phoenix,
which their offense was seven seconds or less. So they're
leaning in on that and they're all right, we're gonna
do you one second better.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
And it's the idea of exactly what Bim was talking about.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Whoever gets the rebound push before the defense gets set,
try to get an open three, or try to get
all the way to the bucket. And you know, certain
personnel is better than that that others one guy who
perfectly suits that is Najie Marshall, because he was kind
of doing that last year anyways, just get the ball
and go. But sometimes he over penetrates. You know, he'll

(04:04):
get down and suddenly he hadn't seen the floor properly
and he's all congested up, so there's an adjustment period,
but they're leaning in on being that monster, crazy long
defensive team where you can switch every position and play
that style and hopefully get easy offense going out of that.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
That's what they're hoping to do.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Man, I want to ask you this because I know
we don't have a lot of time, but I put
this out today. Now that you've seen Cooper Flagg play
a little bit in the MAVs Jersey, who do you
think is the best comp for him? And so there's
a ton of answers, a ton of people giving me
their thoughts. Who they think is the best comp? I
want to know for you, Jeff skin Wade, and this
is not who he is right now, but at the
end of his career, if it goes the way you

(04:46):
think it will, who and it's and he reaches his
potential or whatever, what do you think the best comp
will be for him? I think it's a lot like
Luca and that there wasn't a direct comp.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
So we were going, well, he's kind of a mix
of you know, Pete Marrivan, but like the names that
all come up that I think makes sense he reminds
me of lamar Odom.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
He reminds me of Grant Hill, and he reminds me.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
You could see where his body could end up being
a Kawhi Leonard style player.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Like I said, I understand the.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Grant Hill comp. But man, Grant Hill was an infinitely
better playmaker. But also Grant Hill played at Duke for
two or three years, Like we're watching an eighteen year old.
So I think the Grant Hill comp of all those
is the one that probably makes the most sense.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I could. I could see that.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
I feel like he's a thirty six year old man
when I watch him, though, Yeah, not the athleticism, his maturity.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
It's oh, it's incredible basketball.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Like what does he remind you of? Well, you know,
I'm kind of tainted by some of them. That This
is why I was asking.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I'm kind of tainted by some of the names.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
I've heard people say Scottie Pippen, I've heard Kawhi Leonard,
I've heard Jason Tatum, I heard Tayshaun Prince, which I thought, Okay,
that's interesting. I don't I think I would reject right,
just in terms of if he's any of these guys
outside of Taishaun Prince, who was fine. But if he's
any of these other guys that we're talking about, you're
talking about him being one of the best players ever

(06:08):
to play basketball. Yeah, I mean I think he's, you know,
barring injury, he's all NBA guy like, that's what he is,
the potential first team ball in Yeah. I love you know,
his everything looks good. A shot looks good, his ball
handles look you know, handles look good. He can attack
the basket finished with either hand. He's got a touch
around the rim. He's a way better passer than I realized.

(06:29):
I didn't realize what a good passer. He's probably the
best passer outside of Neimhart and Kyrie on the Mavericks.
But man, I'm just I love watching him play because
he doesn't demand the ball, he doesn't force anything. He
just makes the right decision.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Yeah, he's a basketball player.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Man.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
It's a lot of fun, good good stuff. All right.
Coming up next, where we're gonna go Kti, I think
Zachi jump here and hang with this. Okay, let's go.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
We'll we'll talk a little BBQ Texas BBQ with an
absolute legend. We got cussing the Cowboys coming up the
Today game. That's all coming your way right here on
ninety seven. The Eagle from the original Roy Hutchins Barbecue
and Trophy Club having a great time out here.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Come join us.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
You can win free Texas Twinkies for a year. Three
people are gonna win Texas Twinkies for a year, So
get out here and register to win. That's gonna go
on even after we leave at six o'clock. But that's
all coming up next
