Speaker 1 (00:00):
Strangely, there's been a lot of talk of Andy Griffith
on our show the last couple of days, so we'll
take a look at that in the wayback machine here
in about all fifteen minutes.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
But right now it's time.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
For this what's going on in Dallas?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
All right? We've been doing this iHeartRadio.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Thank a Teacher Month and today's teacher of the Day
that we are thinking. It's from Keller High School. Her
name is Valerie Lane, and Jeff skin Wade had the
privilege to have an intimate conversation.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
With Valerie over the phone. Would you like to hear
that interview? Yes? Absolutely, all right.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Hello, Hello Valerie, Yes, Hi, this is Skin from the
Ben and Skin Show.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
What are you doing right now?
Speaker 5 (00:57):
I am lesson planning right now.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
I was hoping you were going to say, I'm just
sitting here listening to ninety seven to one the Eagle,
but I guess that's probably no. No, no, don't be sorry.
It's more important to be truthful. Valerie. I'm hoping you
realize that you have been nominated as one of the
great teachers here in the Metroplex that has helped out
tons of kids. So I'm looking right now at notes
about you and you've been doing this a long time
(01:21):
and been doing really great work. Are you aware that
you've been nominated?
Speaker 5 (01:25):
No?
Speaker 6 (01:25):
I haven't.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
I was not aware.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Well, congratulations. So here's what we're doing. We're out here.
Iheartradios thinking teachers like yourself. Someone's nominated you because they
think you're special. And you now have a chance for
your classroom to win five thousand dollars, which I imagine
would be a really nice thing for you and the kids.
Speaker 5 (01:44):
Oh yeah, that would be lovely.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Let's hope that you win. Now, let me ask you.
Tell me a little bit about Keller High School. They
never let me walk around over there.
Speaker 6 (01:53):
Well, it's a fantastic school.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
I couldn't be happier. I feel very blessed to be
at this school and I am a dyslexia teacher. Here
I help students that may need help with reading, writing, spelling,
anything involved in the language arts areas. So now I'm
at the high school level and it's just a fantastic
role that I get to play in our students' lives.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
That's a wonderful thing.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
I have someone in my family that struggled with dyslexia,
and they got all the way through college and they
actually got their teaching certificate as well. So you're doing
really really great work out there. Where did you grow up.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
I actually grew up in Central Texas area, and then
my husband and I married and then we moved up
here at the full Worth area around that time period.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Do you feel like I'm being way too invasive right
now and asking too many personal questions?
Speaker 5 (02:42):
No, not at all.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
On sine with that, the kids asked me all sorts
of questions as well.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Okay, great, what is your husband's name and his phone number? No, no, no,
don't tell me that. Don't tell me that. That probably
is crossing the line. Well, Valerie, do you have any
questions for me?
Speaker 5 (02:57):
Well, I do appreciate y'all's radio station, boy Ol Boy.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
When I want to rock, I definitely listen to the
Yelth station. It's a lot of fun just to kind
of let out some energy or frustrations on my way
home or in the morning.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
So I enjoy the Eagle All a great, a great deal.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
And so I don't have any specific questions so at
this time, and I don't know if I should be
asking any questions now.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
That's great.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
I'm glad to know that you do like to let
out your frustrations while listening to the Eagle. You know
what I just found out recently. I just found out
the kids and I call them the kids because I'm
like in my fifties. But apparently there's this big resurgence
in Deaftones CDs and like the kids are buying deaftone CDs.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
You ever listen to the Deaftnes Yes?
Speaker 5 (03:40):
Yes, as a matter of fact, there are a lot
of kids here too that they are all They have
the shirts and they have all the items. Some of
them are listening to records and so it's kind of
neat to see that they are taking that nostalgic period
back and you know, listening to all these you know,
older groups and things like that.
Speaker 6 (03:59):
So it is nice.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
It doesn't really rock, so we don't play it. But
have you ever heard the song Valerie by Steve Winwood?
Speaker 6 (04:04):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (04:05):
I love that song.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
I'm sure you do.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
It's about you. I think I don't know all the
words except for the chorus. I just know he sings
your name real loudly.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
As a matter of fact, as a little girl, I
remember that song coming out for the first time, and
I thought, that's about me, and then I think recently
I heard also, I think in the Amy Winehouse.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yes, Valerie is produced by the great Mark Ronson Valerie.
I think we just became best friends. I will reach
out to your husband, even though you didn't give me
his number, and he and I will hang out. But
it's been an honor talking to you. Thank you for
the amazing work you do there at Keller High School
helping these kids out, and hopefully you are the big winner.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
I would love that. And if you are, then I'm
going to call you back.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
I appreciate it. Thank you so much for your time.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
All Right, have a great day. Rock On Valerie, buck On,
bye you, bye bye. All right, fantastic. She listens to
the eagle, which he wants to let it all out.
Speaker 7 (04:55):
Oh that's fantastic, Hey, big thanks to all of our
teachers out there. We greatly appreciate you. And good luck
to all of the nominees. All right, coming up next,
we crank up the wayback machine. You're not gonna believe
how this celebrity went out at the very end
