Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time for this come on surprise.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah, so last night, pretty awesome fake field goal on
the very first drive of the game.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
That was fun.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, it reminded me of the Bones days. When you
pull that out, you got to score a touchdown? Yeah
they did. Yeah, yeah it worked, and man it was.
It was a great start to the game.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Obviously, you had the Quinn Williams interception, which is random,
you had the fake field goal. You go ahead and
cram it down their throats and get the touchdown. It
seemed like, all right, man, this is on and popping,
this is Legit went out. Almost everything that happened after
that sucked, by the way, and I was still wondering
too they found there. That first McCarthy touchdown throw.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Was effing amazing. Yeah, that was an incredible throw.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
I was watching that because they were pointing out that
he was not open and like until the ball arrived,
but the whole time you're watching it going not open,
not open, not open, okay, not open.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
All the way until the catch.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, that's insane, And it was a wild ass throw.
It was very mahone.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Leave it to the.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Cowboys to make J. J. McCarthy look good. They just
can't get pressure. Now they don't know how to get
pressure on a quarterback either. And it was the exact
opposite story the other way. The Vikings blitzed like half
of the time. I was reading where the the Vikings
had they they did this formation where they had only
two down linemen out there defensively, and then it was
like four linebackers and like five DB's.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Or whatever whatever it was.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
But it was like it was such an They all
get up there at the line and you have no
idea who's blitzing. Different guys blitzing every time, and Dak
is like they blitzed half the time. Dak is like
among the best in all football at beating the blitz
and they.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Just couldn't figure out a way to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
And I don't know why they were pointing this out
on the broadcast when there's no safeties. Why aren't you
just sending your wide receivers deep and giving them a
shot and one v one.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
You know what killed them is so many second and
tens because that's when everybody comes and then Dack's got
to get rid of the ball so f and fast. Yeah, no,
no doubt, But they should have been planning for that
stuff too, though, like you know it, Brian Forest seems
to blitch you. You know that you can never be
surprised by it having a third off, it's a tackle.
I have to step into the game and a lots
(02:27):
of problem. I have Brandon Aubrey problem though. Brandon Aubrey
missed two field goals last night. It happens, by the
way kicker missing a fifty nine yard field goal.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
It happens.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Okay, we I think you're gotten used to perfection again
like we did in the early days of Dan Bailey whatever.
He missed a couple field goals. But I do think
you have situations. And Shoddy said after the game last
night it was twenty to seventeen.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
It was a fourth and three. You've got the ball.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
I'm sitting here watching it, and I'm going you have
to go for it here because if you go up
twenty three seventeen, they're just going to score it the
touchdown on you because we haven't stopped them all. So
it's pretty simple. What was going to happen right there?
And they chose to kick a field goal. You're around
the ten fifteen yard line at that point too. Kick
the field goal. You up twenty three to seventeen and
then the Vikings score. Easy to say that's what's gonna happen.
(03:14):
But weren't we all thinking it while watching the game. Yes,
because to me, these fourth and threes that you maybe
don't go for right, well, that leads you to having
to go for it on fourth and seven with the
game on the line. Right, it's just too possible, and
like whatever, let's say you don't get it, you don't
get the three points, Okay, twenty seventeen, whatever, it's fine.
(03:37):
You still it's to me, he got honeydeed by what
this defense was against the Raiders, the Chiefs, and the Eagles,
And what we know about the Raiders, the Chiefs and
the Eagles in that three week span is those were
three offenses and a freaking tail spin.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
This is not a good defense yet. So it's not.
And I don't know why he thought it was for
a minute.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
And uh, there's my first big shoddy criticism because this
happened two weeks in a row of him kind of
getting pants on the sideline.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
I don't like that.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
I think it was more are they closer to the
middle defensively? Not are they good? Because the idea is
that man with this offense, if they can just be
middle of the road defensively, they're going to be in
all these games, which, by the way, they were in
the game until they weren't.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Yeah, but I understand what Kat is saying. If you
you know, watching the rest of the league, it seems
like the league is now to a point where everybody's
being aggressive right now, and he is not doing that, okay,
and so then maybe they're relying on their kicker, thinking
it's an all world kicker. Well, he looked very human
last night, And I do agree with you on this, like,
(04:41):
there are a lot of these guys that are kicking
like that right now. He may be the best of
them all, but there's a lot of them that are
very much in his class or close to being in
his class. I do I do see some conservatism out
there from Shoddy and Dude I was highly critical to hire.
I think they got lucky on the Shoddy higher because
he just happened to be the next guy up, you know,
and they just I hired him because he was standing there.
He's been great. But if there is a criticism of him,
(05:04):
it is that he's conservative.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
I think the Aubrey.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Problem and the reason that, quite frankly, it beat him
last night. I mean, they had other issues and their
defense didn't good enough to win consistently. But going for
fifty nine yard field goals because you think it's a layup,
you're giving the other team.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Of the ball at midfield. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Well, now I realize if you go for it on
fourth and three are giving it to him too. Yeah,
but it's just a different If you kick it into
the end zone, you're giving them the ball at the
thirty five, like the league has changed now with the
new kickoff rules too. Yeah. Settling the field goals gets
you beat all the time. Now, that's just how it is.
It's so easy to just get back and forth up
the field to get long field goals. You don't have
(05:43):
to get I need two first downs, three first downs,
and most teams are kicking that. Brandon Aubrey makes one
less first down that you have to have. There's old phrase.
It's called a sugar will. Sugar ain't poison, but sugar
will kill you. Too much of a good thing, maybe
not so sweet. I'm just saying having a great kicker
might be the worst.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Thing for this team. Please send that to Christina. So
weekend end shows with that, that's great. Coming up next.
I saw a stat about Dak that blew my mind.
You guys probably saw it too. We'll discuss next. Oh, yes,
you're listening to the world famous Ben and Skin Show
ninety seven point one The Eagle. We're sitting here talking
about this Cowboys debacle. Obviously, they lost to the Vikings
thirty four to twenty six. The season's pretty much over
and pretty soon you'll just start hearing about the draft
(06:25):
all the time. But tough, tough, tough, go of hero
of it here of late for the Dallas Cowboys. Easy
for me to say, Man, I saw stat last night
that was mind blowing to me, and I think they
flashed it up during the game and it was Dak
Prescott's I think it was his touchdowns and interceptions on
play action. First.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Did you guys see that? Yeah? I didn't see that.
It was unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
I think it was like twelve touchdowns and no interceptions
on play action yep, and then like twelve and ten
on regular plays and without play action. And so it
really just points out like sometimes you run the ball
and you see him keep running it and they run it,
and they run it, and they're like, God, why are
they doing this and not going anywhere.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
A lot of it.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
They're just trying to set up the play action and
for whatever reason, really seems to work for Dak And
I mean you go back to his rookie year with Zeke.
I mean all that play action all that year, because
Zeke was such a feared running back and he just
with all that. Any quarterback's going to do well if
you have to sit there and worry about the run
thread and then oh my god, that's a pass. Let's
scramble back. But I had no idea that it was
(07:28):
that different from him, and it just made me think, Man,
they've got to I don't know what to do with
Javonte Williams. I don't know if this was just a
career year. He had times where he looked really good.
I mean, he looked good last night. Then he had
other games where he looked really pedestrian. Is that just
because they're not good at run blocking? I don't know,
but it does make me wonder. You know, all of
(07:50):
their resources as I look forward, need to be how
do you make this defense stop being terrible?
Speaker 1 (07:56):
And a tackle they needed to tackle, but.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
They also need to tackle and you know, so it's like,
how many resources can you really afford to apply to
the offense when your defense has so many holes.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Let's just see what Williams market is. It is career
high for him in yards and touchdowns. This is the
best season he's ever had and there's still three games
to go, so let's see what the market is for him.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
I would think at this point teams would be beyond overpaying. Again,
I go back to the Rico Dawdle thing. It would
have been fine keeping him at that number. But I
have a feeling this comes down to scouting, and they
did a good job this year. They were able to
plug Williams in. They did a good job with Dowdell.
They just got to go find that guy every year
and pay him about what they were paying Dowdell, or
(08:43):
pay Williams and go about it that way. Or if
you get lucky and you're sitting there in the third
round and a badass back is right there, there's nothing
wrong with grabbing.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
A guy there.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
That's tough because you have so many holes defensively, and
they've got to restructure and create cap space and go
try to be players free agency too. I mean, they've
got so many holes, like how do you how do
you go get an edge rush? Like how do they
find And they don't have a second round pick either.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
They got to first though Williams trade. Honestly, like, I ay,
I don't like it. Once you see what they've done
with all the assets and all this stuff.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
What if they get two defensive ends in the first
round this year.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
I have no idea, what the how the draft lays out,
I have no idea, But I'm just saying if they
got two defensive ends in the top thirty something picks,
oh yeah, you know you would go, oh that's what
you big defensive lineman defensive end in the draft.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
They need linebacker help as much as anything. Linebackers are bad.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Safeties safeties too, man, like great, you know the quarterbacks
are not great. I guess it's all it's on that
their tackles are really a problem.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Off It's tackles aren't problem. Yeah, their interior offensive line
is great.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
It's great, but they need to figure out how do
we how do they They got to go be active
in free agency. They got to go get whoever they
can get in free agency who can come in and
start and make a difference. So they're not going into
the draft with all these massive needs, right. I feel
like their free agency is gonna be George Pickens. It is, Well,
maybe not, you know, another snoozer from him. Maybe they're
(10:13):
watching that closely too. They said they're evaluating the defense
carefully the last three games.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
They need to be watching him too.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
I like what I thought it was incredible And they
were talking about their interview with dak the broadcasters, like
he told us he saw the look in George Pickens's
eye and realized he didn't have it and he was
not going to throw it to him anymore. He was like,
he's just like he's wasn't even there.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Wow, Like what how.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Do you get into the huddle and you realize, oh,
it's not his day, he's not here, Okay, Like what
that's from.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Dak Man Sundays. You know, sometimes he's taking the day
off with Lord's Day.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Jeez, I'm not gonna take shots at Jesus, you know
what I'm saying. You know, I believe that Micah and
Patrick Mahomes tore their acl on the same day. That's
a sad day for football man. That is how that
dynasty ended. Yeah, I mean, obviously Mahomes will be back.
Kelsey's a free agent. He needs to retire, he to
But do you go out like that missing the playoffs?
Speaker 1 (11:06):
I mean you got tata whatever.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
I mean, I think at that point, you've been so successful,
your wife is dominant, right.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
You're about to go be an assistant to his.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
But but dude, he can you know his body's probably
in decent shape at this point. I mean, I just
think risking your body out there, risking brain injuries or
some catastrophic injury where you can't walk for the rest
of your life. I mean at some point, I mean
that shit's a violent sport. He got to just walk away.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
He needs to not play any of these remaining games.
He needs to go look at what happened to zach
Ertz a week ago. Like they've got to be near
the same age, right, How old is isab two or
three years older? But yeah, older than Kelsey. Yeah, Kelsey's
like thirty five, isn't he you think is thirty eight?
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Ur is thirty five? Old? Eld is Kelsey thirty six?
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Whoa?
Speaker 1 (11:53):
He needs to step on someone knows football.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Don't even play these final games, dude, Just just call it.
You had a great run. The Dynasty's over. See you
on the other side, bro see at the crossroads.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
All right.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Coming up next the next thirty minutes of the show,
we are gonna look back at the best TV news
bloopers of twenty twenty five.
