"Do you really know the lyrics to ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’—or are you just faking it like the rest of us?"Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray share behind-the-scenes chaos from their night at the Mavericks game—and it’s one for the books.Krystina recounts her hilarious, anxiety-fueled debut on the Mavs Karaoke Cam, where she’s thrown into a surprise performance of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” with zero prep, a blocked view of the lyrics, and a camera light blinding her face. “I didn’t even know how the song started. Tommy? Johnny? Jamie? Sheila?” The crew tries to piece together the lyrics in real time, leading to one of the funniest moments of the episode:
“Tommy used to work on the docks… he bleeds from his butt… he needs help right now.”

Speaker 1 (00:09):
So Ben just told us all about his experience at
the MAVs game, and I saw you, Ben, I saw
you down there, and I'm glad you explained the whole
goggles thing because at one point I thought ad dapt
grace and I was like, that's an awesome moment that
I cannot wait to hear about tomorrow. Anyway, So you
had amazing seats. I was there as well. So we
do this thing. I finally got to be on the

(00:30):
MAVs karaoke cam. Hey, Katie's done it how many times?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Too many?

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Too many, probably good times. We couldn't do it. There's
usually something involved where we can't be there. But I've
seen Jeff k do it as well, Billy the Kid,
like they get all of us. I hurt people up
there at least once every year to do the MAVs
Karaoke cam. And so I was really excited to finally
do this, but also really nervous because again I've never

(00:56):
done it. I have no idea what to expect, and
that's what gives me anxiety, is having no idea what's
going to happen. And so going into this, all they
do is tell you, Okay, you're going to this game.
Karaoke cam is at third quarter, and that is it.
They don't tell you what song you're gonna do where
to be honestly nothing, So I'm just sitting there. I

(01:19):
had great seats, by the way, just sitting there kind
of casually waiting for a third quarter and then to
try to figure out what to do from there and
just tell myself to breathe, It'll work itself out. Just so,
just real quick.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
I've done it before where they didn't come get me
in the seat, so they just started doing carry up
because I knew where it happened, and I knew around
the time it was supposed to happen, because I'd done
it three or four times. I started walking over there,
but they had started it without me there, and then
I get there and then he put the camera on me,
just to waste a night.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Really but like you guys go to a mass can
Yeah fine, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Of course, right was that after Kyrie had been hurt
and they were rolling out all those two way.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
It was during the bad part of that season for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
So luckily we have a great friend who works with
the MAVs. Not just you, Skim, but shitpy As well,
so I sent Shitpy a text because I am kind
of freaking out. I'm like, hey, man, I think someone
needs to know I'm here. What's up, Shippy? Can you
have my back? I'm here for the MAVs karaoke cam.
And he says, oh, yeah, awesome. Cool. Do you know
like where you need to be? I go nope, I

(02:23):
have no idea what I'm supposed to do, not at all.
And he goes, well, I'm assuming you know this section
you need to go here, and here's the song that
you're singing for the night. It's bon Jovi Living on
a Prayer. And I say, okay, cool, easy. I am.
I cannot stand bon Jovi, but I've heard this song
a billion times. I'll be fine, okay. And so when

(02:44):
I finally get up there and get ready to go,
the Sweet Handler lady her name's Bailey, she goes over
it and she's like, I have the lyrics up here
if you want to like look at it, and I go,
oh no, but the lyrics will be on the screen, right,
so I'll be fine. She's yeah, yeah, but you know
if you just want to kind of look over it.
And so I'm sitting there thinking like I don't even
know how this song starts. Do you guys know, because

(03:07):
I mean clearly we know the chorus. Everyone knows the chorus.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, I think tom Tommy works on the docks. Shila
does something? Did he say, you know? I said, Jamie, Jamie.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
I think you said tom.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
I think Tommy works. I thought it was Johnny, And
then I think Sheila does. Doesn't Sheila do something?

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Definitely working on a doc?

Speaker 4 (03:29):
I knew, Yeah, he's doing percussion. First, what happened?

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Then Tommy used.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
To work on the docks.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
He bleeds from his butt.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
He needs some help.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Now, Okay, so this is great. This is how the
lyrics go. Tommy used to work on the docks. Yes,
union's been on strike.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Political. John bon Jovi is from New Jersey and there's
so much union, blue collar labor stuff going on up there.
That's how you relate to the people.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
It goes on, He's down on his luck. It's tough,
so tough. And then Gina works the.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Diners, Sheilajina. Gina goes down on his luck.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah, working for her man. She brings home her pay
for love for love. Okay, Oh so that's like how
many times have you heard this song and you're like, wait,
what's their name again? What are you saying here? And
so I didn't really think that through before this karaoke cam.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
That sucks.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Wait, Gina, she lives with a male prostitute that she
has to pay off.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
It's Tommy because the union strike he had to take.
They don't have money.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Is that the story?

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Everybody in the Northeast doesn't have money?

Speaker 1 (04:41):
We should ask bon Jovi the thought process behind this. Yeah,
but again anyway, so I just asked the girl. I go, well,
the lyrics are going to be up there, right, so
I know as soon as I hear the song, I
want to know how it goes. I'll be fine. Well,
the camera guy gets up there right in front of
the screen with this giant lie and so I cannot see.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
And you're supposed to be looking into the camera and not.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
The skirty and I'm supposed to be looking right at
the camera, and I start kind of panicking. But luckily
the drum line they are amazing by the way. They're
all behind me and they're like, we got this whatever.
And it was all real frantic because we were supposed
to go a whole quarter ahead of time. Anyway, So
it was all thrown together and all of a sudden, boom,
you're up there. You need to sing this, And I

(05:27):
didn't know any of the words. But then once I
see the red light go off, it's the chorus that
I do know. I'm like, crap man, why shouldn't you
be showing me on this part. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
I always tell them when I'm there, because they move
on and I'm like, bring it back.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
They day wait for the courses. They go back.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
They went back.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
They went back to her because I did not see
the beginning, and then I realized it was happening. I
was looking and suddenly they cut to Christina and she
did look like she was uncertain about something.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Oh yeah, like you were.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
You were kind of, you know, shinging with your hands
like you were into it, which was great, but I
could I could sense a little uncertainty.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
No, I do what any of the lyrics were. I
couldn't see him, and I was expecting to have them
right in front of me. So anyway, not a prayer lyrics.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Okay, I didn't see this on the Jumbo Tronto.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
I was there, but I saw pictures of it and
it looked like it was fun and it looked like
you did a great job.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Good job, I'll redeem myself a right.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Coming up next, just three minutes away, it's the Today game,
followed by cussing the Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
That's all coming up next
