“How often do you stop mid-scroll and think… am I completely out of touch with the world?”That’s the question that kicks off this hilarious and thought-provoking episode of The Ben and Skin Show with Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray. From generational pop culture gaps to jaw-dropping luxury headlines, the crew dives into feeling disconnected from the latest trends — and why SNL’s musical guests make us feel ancient.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Skin Show ninety seven point one the Eagle.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
In the next hour, we're gonna give away tickets to
see bad Omens that are coming in March to the
American Airline Center.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
But right now it's time for this.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Track.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Another edition of things is tracking all right.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I think part of this is the age I'm at.
I'm wondering if Ben has the same feeling. But I'm
also curious how much Christina and KT have this feeling.
You're a lot older than we are, Uh yes, except
for you. Yeah, I meant collectively our average me, Christina,
KT our average age are yeah. Yeah, yeah. If we

(00:38):
take my age against the three of y'all have averaged
out all I'm saying, yeah, that's fair. How often during
the course of a day, you know, because of the
job we have, we get up and check out news
right scroll the news. How often during the course of
a day do you go, man, I'm just really out
of touch with the world.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Does that? But do you get that feeling often?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Or you just, guys feel like you're just right down
the middle of the fairway and you're in lockstep with everything.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I get that with the like SNL music announcements and
stuff like I have no idea who that is.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Oh no, that's a big thing.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Is the older I get, the less informed I am
about whatever the next twenty five year old star is.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah. Yeah, I don't want to ever get that way.
I get it. I want to stay in the mix. Okay,
but I work at it. You're like eighteen years younger
than me.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
I've given up and I don't care. And what type
of news are you talking about? Are hearing about world news?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Anything good to me?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
I specifically focus on sports news, and then I'm interested
in pop culture news, TV shows, movies and things like that,
occasionally music, But I purposely ignore world news, like world news,
things going on because I can't control it, I can't
change it, and it seems to only bring people grief.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah that's fair.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I mean A big part of like, you know, what
I'm thinking about is I have a subscription of the
New York Times in the Dallas Morning News, so I
get emails from these entities, and also.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Like the Athletic.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Every morning I get an Athletic email and it's the headlines, right,
and so just looking at the headlines, I'm always curious,
you know, and not all of it is curated specifically
for me. Part of it is what the news is
deemed their headlines of the day. And sometimes I'll see
stuff and I'll just be like, God, there's an entirely
other world of humans that have nothing to do there

(02:28):
in my city, that have nothing to do with me.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
I can't relate to them in any way.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
But it feels like this news entity wants to have
something for them.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
And I'll give you an example.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Okay, here's an email I got from the Dallas Morning
News and it's a story would you spend thirty thousand
dollars on this stove?

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Oh? Stove? Now, what's the story about the stove?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
We live in a city that has a lot of money.
There's a lot of money in Dallas. But the idea,
and let me go a little further. It's got a
picture of the stove, which I could send it to
you guys, if you want to see.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
I think it's really inconsequential.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Right below it, it's a story about a particular brand
of stoves and it says, what's I guess this is
pronounced aga?

Speaker 1 (03:15):
It's Aga? What's an aga?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
And why does everyone have a luxury European stove?

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Right now? What Huh.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
That's not relatable to anyone at all. What I think
it's relatable like in Highland Park? Probably yes. But Christinos
brought this up last night selling Sunset. Yes, right, it's
the same vibe, right, uh huh, because we're like, who
can afford these thirty five million dollar houses?

Speaker 1 (03:39):
But they're selling a ton of them, They're selling them.
It makes you sad, Actually it makes me sad.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
But imagine being with a group of people and someone goes,
why does everybody have a European.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Stove right now? What?

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I don't have any idea what brand of stove is
in our house. No, I have no idea who the
manufacturer is. And you know what, I'm willing to bet
my wife who you this is a stoveboy more than
I do.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
I'm willing to bet she doesn't know. Okay, ken Mark,
is that a brand?

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Now?

Speaker 1 (04:06):
You so very confident with that?

Speaker 3 (04:09):
If my dreams come true and I if I become
wealthy someday, I would love to get this certain kind
of refrigerator. Okay, I can't remember the name of it.
Why does everyone have it? I know rich people have it? Yeah,
And if I have some friends who are really doing.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Well, huh.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
And it's like it's a giant refrigerator. It's giant, and
it's like matches the cabinets. Yeah, and it's like big
enough for like two people to walk into it, right,
and it's just in there.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
In the kitchen. I'm like, you know what I'd like
to have that. I'd like to be that rich some days.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Okay, And I agree with you. There's a I've seen it.
I'm been the star Power in a long time. But
they had this coffee maker that it's it's everything's wired
in and plumbed in and so it's like you have this,
it's almost like you have your own Starbucks in your house.
And I'm looking at that, going, man, I love coffee.
That would be badass. But I don't have money like that.

(05:03):
I have a good job compared to your average person,
I'm doing great, you know. And the economy sucks right now.
Everyone has a thirty thousand dollars European stove, Like that's
in the headline. Why does everyone have a thirty thousand
dollar European stove right now? I don't know anybody that's
got a thirty thousand I don't know anybody talking about
a thirty thousand dollar European stove right now, it's crazy.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
So this refrigerator brand I'm talking about, as I have
revealed that I'm probably someone wh could fall into that trap.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
It's called sub zero subs.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't think it's a thirty thousand
dollars refrigerator.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
But is it a European refrigerator? Why does it happen?
But like fifteen thousand? My wife is the exact opposite.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Okay, my wife she grew up with a single mother,
three kids, and she's super frugal and thank god she is,
or we'd be broke. You'd have a thirty thousand dollars
European stove if not. And so she was in charge
of buying our last refrigerator. Uh, and it's really underwhelming.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
You know what she got? Did she get a ken
markkydmar close?

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Four. I'm like, didn't even light up at night. I'm like,
you're trying to get water out of it and I
can't even see. Let me introduce you to my appliance salesman,
ken Mark. Yeah, that's weird.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I don't know anyone who has a thirty thousand dollar
European stove I'm going to drive around Highland Park and
find some people. All Right, there you have it, Thanks,
skin is tracking. Uh Coming up next KT, we're gonna
takes in the Hollywood Shuffle.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
These TV shows have spun off into other TV shows
thanks to the TV coaching Tree.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
I'll explain next
