"Are we too desensitized to tragedy in the age of iPhones and instant reactions?"Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray—discuss the shocking news of Charlie Kirk’s death at Utah Valley University. They open the show by reflecting on the tragedy, the toxic polarization of social media, and the unsettling reality of how violence is consumed and politicized in real time. But true to form, the show doesn’t stay in the heavy for long. The crew pivots with their signature humor and chemistry, riffing on everything from bot-driven outrage to KT’s hilarious declaration that “we live on the one planet that has water—that’s cool!” (only to be immediately dunked on by Krystina with breaking news about water on Mars).

enough multiplied like a rabbit. Tune in so out, creak

Excited to be here.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
All hands on deck for what it's going to be
a really, really good show. I know because I was
in the pre show meeting. But we start today with
really heavy heart, says yesterday, everyone's worlds were rocked. The
biggest story on the planet. Conservative activists and Turning Point
USA co founder Charlie Kirk died yesterday after he was

(01:51):
shot at an event at Utah Valley University. And you know,
our show is a distraction from politics. We don't get
into political things. You know, that's not we don't have
any interest in that at all. We want to entertain people,
keep you smiling and keep you laughing. Lord knows there's
enough things out there to divide us. But this is

(02:14):
no matter where you stand, this is absolutely heartbreaking. It's
a tragedy and no matter what our views are, no
one should ever lose their life this way. And so
our thoughts are with his family, as friends and everybody impacted.
And we definitely believe that violence only deepens our divide.
So we hope that this can remind us all how

(02:37):
precious life is and how important it is to treat
each other with compassionate peace, and to be kind and loving,
and and just remember that we're all in this together.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
But man, it's it was a tragic thing to witness.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
It was a tragic thing to you know, just a
horrible thing to see, a horrible thing to think about
his family and all of.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
It is just shocking and terrible.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Yeah, I mean, and it's it's hard to process. It
felt like it was another strange part of it as
being like one day before nine to eleven, Like later
in the show today we're going to talk about our
recollections of nine to eleven, all four of us, you know,
remember it.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, we're different points in our life.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
That's the unique thing with me and Ben being about
ah nough eighteen seventeen years older than Kathie and Christina.
But it kind of it kind of in my mind,
at least emotionally, I was conflating all of that because
it felt like it felt like a moment beyond the
actual tragedy it because so much of our lives play

(03:37):
out on social media in Facebook, and you know, I
used to spend a lot of time on Twitter, and
I found yesterday I could go into Twitter for about
forty five seconds and what I saw in.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
There was like I'm out.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
I've had to get out because of how people react
to these sorts of things now, and it's like people aren't.
People just need to realize you're watching a murder. It's
a horrific thing, and that's aside from who it was
and how.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
He affected people. I can't watch murder.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
There was a clip going around over the weekend of
a murder on a train or a bus in Charlotte, Yeah,
and I was like, why are so many people posting this?

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I don't want to watch this. This is horrible iPhone culture.
I mean, that's we're over. We're nearly two decades into
iPhone culture. But it's just it's like distance it.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Yeah. I also think it's there's a lot of bots.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Oh, that's a great point.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
When these things are politicized instantly and people, you know,
we're so polarized as a country, and people sit here
all da every day and bicker with one each one another,
and it's just so toxic, and then anything happens and
it's like, instead of just evaluating how tragic it is
on every level, people immediately start to weaponize it.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
You know, are even like our news is divided. There's
left news and right news. And I thought when I
was flipping around last night, I thought everyone struck a
reverent tone because like, one of the things that's that
news world is the news host and the politicians. They
all have lives with each other off of their platforms.
You know, they all know each other, and like Charlie

(05:24):
Kirk was friends with a lot of people that are
on the left that do news programs, you know, because
they'll have their Charlie Kirk was known for his debates, right.
He loved to debate, and so he would have a
debate with someone and then once the cameras stop rolling,
you know, they're humans that are interacting with one another.
And you could tell in the news coverage last night

(05:44):
how hard that hit that segment of the population. You know,
your average person watching it, it hits you emotionally. But those
people that are all in that very insulated world, like
you could just tell and watching them talk about it,
That's why I was saying, it kind of felt like
nine to eleven because you felt like our society has

(06:05):
just crossed the line we never imagined that was a
part of our world.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:09):
Man, they immediately thought they had the shooter and it
was just an old man and falling down and like
what they're carrying. This guy is underwear showing. I'm like,
this is the guy. He was yelling stuff too. I
don't know what he was yelling. And then they're like, oh, yeah,
it turns out he's not the guy. And they're like, yeah,
people saw a guy on a roof and they think
that's where the shooter was and they have pictures of

(06:30):
the person of interest, and yeah, I mean it's just
you know, it's just terrible in every way. And uh yeah,
it's a you know, we're we're going to talk about
it here and then we're going to move on and
try to keep you guys entertained and keep keep you laughing.
But we thought we should probably address it and and
and talk about it. And it's obviously an ongoing investigation,

(06:52):
and I you know, I didn't want to address it yesterday.
You know, first of all, you know, the details are sketchy,
you don't know, and you know, we joke around ninety
nine percent of the time, right.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Like that's what we do. We're on a rock station.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
We're an escape from all that, and so, you know,
we didn't really know how to handle it yesterday. But
just getting home last night and it's literally the only
thing that's on and I, for the most part, I
would kind of go on to social media and then
just kind of get out of it because I didn't
want to see how people were reacting to I didn't

(07:28):
like the way I saw people.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Acting to it. The actual video was show.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
I mean, it was just I was thinking about how
many kids you know who probably hadn't seen anything like
that before, because that is gruesome, man, and to give
you that like uneasy feeling hours in the night. Also,
I feel like it's like the team sports mentality is
really good for team sports, but it's not really good
for many other things. And I think that's like kind

(07:53):
of how things have gotten and I think that's probably
not great, probably like not the best thing ever.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
We're all humans. We're we live on the one planet
that has water. That's cool. It's all just kind of
come together, and even fighting with other nations. I've always
kind of been.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Like, well, we don't have to do that. We're like,
maybe if it's the aliens, the aliens are ones. I'm
fine going after the aliens because I get that, but
for humans, we should all just kind of be one.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
I do like his idea that water is what brings
us all together.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
We're the only WANs. No, the other ones have it anymore. Well,
the carbon and water we have. We're lucky. We're the
lucky ones, and we're fighting. Christina, is there anything you
want to say to this guy? I believe they found
proof of water on Mars just today, unconfirmed, confirmed is
the work? Did you get that news?

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (08:42):
Sorry, all right, we're off and running the rest of
the way. We're gonna have fun, although obviously we're ending
the show with something heavy too.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Okay, we're a good twenty five years removed from it.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Is seventh grade. My friend craped his pants at day.
It was a great time. Really, No, we'll get to alright,
We're gonna take some thing. Skin is tracking, all right.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
I got lots of things to get to, including something
that's gonna get everyone super hyped.
