What's going on in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Dalla top It is a top ten city. So it's
iHeart Radios think a Teacher Week and it's powered by
donors choose. So each day this week we've been mentioning
a teacher. But we have a little twist for this
week because I've interviewed the teacher of the day this week.
(00:48):
What Yes, her name is Patrese Marshall. She's at Mary E.
Smithy Pace High School in Duncanville and she's awesome. And
in fact, if you want the whole six or seven
minute interview I did with her, I'll put it on
the iHeartRadio app for free of no charge to you
the listener. But would you like a little quick snippet,
because yes, when I was recording this with her yesterday.
(01:11):
She uh, I had a little bit of technical difficulties
and I am a moron. So Christina came in and
saved the day. And if you want to hear live
chaos before a recording, that's great. I also should say too,
we want you to go to iHeartRadio dot com slash
teachers and nominate your favorite teacher and they'll be in
the running for a chance to win five thousand dollars
(01:31):
to help stock up their classroom.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Huge.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
All right, huge. So this is Patrese Marshall, who is awesome,
and here's here's our first clip I had for you. Okay,
can you hear me?
Speaker 4 (01:41):

Speaker 3 (01:41):

Speaker 4 (01:43):

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Thank you. My friend Christina came and saved me. She
knows more about this story. All right. It's me Kevin
and I have from Mary E. Smithy Pace High School
in Duncanville, the legendary Patrese Marshall, who has been nominated
for the iHeart Radio Teacher Award. Hello Patrice, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yourself.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
She's cool.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
She sounds like she'd be a great contestant on the prices, right, so.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
You know, I get the whole interview that I'll put
on the iHeartRadio at for free. But I did take
a minute here because I thought this was something we
probably don't think about when we think about teachers. If
you're a teacher, what do you do? Teachers teach, but
what else do they do? And I thought she had
a very interesting thing. This is a little clip of
the interview.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
We're more than just teachers, We're more than just educators
because in some instance we become counselors, we become doctors,
we become therapists, like we become a lot of things
when it comes to our scholars in our classroom.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
So no, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Yeah, you got to have a heart board. My motto
is since I've been teaching, my motto is to bring
the fun back in education.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
I love that so much. You know, one of my
favorite TV shows is Is Elementary? Do you watch that?
By chance?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
I do?
Speaker 4 (03:03):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
How accurate is what what's going on in Avid Elementary
to the to the real world.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
It's pretty close. It's pretty close. And I always say,
you always have to like education calls you, you don't
call education, So you have to have a heart for teaching.
You have to have a heart for the students that
you're touching, Like that has to be your purpose.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Ben, did you just think what I was thinking? What
KT's posting the full interview as a podcast on iHeart
from my perspective the chemistry I just heard between those
two people, episode one of a podcasting. Ooh, I would
like to get Tizzle and Patricia on a weekly show,
you guys murder.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Yeah, she sounds awesome.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
She was. She was Also she was talking about how
she's a creative person too, tho, So like, you know what,
in your classroom you can kind of decorate it high
you want, and you know, she does a lot of
drawings and things like that, and hang on, I was like, yes,
because she was thinking about being a nurse before she
got into that and then someone who obviously cares about
other people too, how about that? But then she was
(04:13):
lack it's kind of being a nurse. You know, you
can be creative as a teacher less so than when
you're a nurse.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
So we have this incredible think of teacher promotion going on,
just trying to help so many teachers out there. She
has a chance to win a lot of money for
her classroom. But since you guys hit it off. And
you're such an advocate for this. Did you make a
personal donation of any kind or did you just kind
of brush past that?
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, a personal to her classroom to help her out.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Since you're you know, I would be happy to really
how much let's let's go ahead and get it on
the record. What amount?
Speaker 3 (04:44):
I mean, I don't make a lot of money, but
one hundred dollars I think would be good.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
I'm concerned. I'm concerned with it. I would be happy too.
It's not a real commitment and saying that you enjoy
possibly doing it.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
And no monetary amount. But he did say one hundred dollars.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Well, when I donate, I like to go to the
sites that show how much everyone else has donated, so
I know how much to donate, So really scoreboard every job.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
I'll match whatever you donate to her.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
So it's okay, I'm gonna save all my money for
what we're talking about at five point thirty.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Okay, go listen to the full interview with her though
on the iHeartRadio app. We post our full show there
every single day. It's free the iHeartRadio app. We check
it out and thank you. Patrese for taking time out
of your lunch break to talk to me. Thank you,
Patrice awesome. Thank you teacher. Get out there and thank
you teacher.
