“Why did she tell me to go to ‘10-10 Tacos’ when she meant ‘Díaz y Díaz’?!”In this laugh-out-loud segment of The Ben and Skin Show, Jeff “Skin” Wade shares a painfully funny story from his recent trip to Austin—a city he hadn’t visited since 2009. What was supposed to be a quick walk to a recommended taqueria turned into a 50-minute misadventure through downtown barricades, a Pride parade, and a case of mistaken identity between a taco joint and an upscale Asian fusion spot.Wearing unlaced Dunks and battling 95-degree heat, Skin’s journey becomes a comedy of errors that ends with sore knees, aching ears (yes, ears), and a realization: he’s officially too old for this kind of chaos.

(00:23):
the hour, we will talk about the chaos at ensued
during KT's SNL Fantasy Draft last night.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
But right now it's time for.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
This track, another edition of Things Sinners tracking.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
When's the last time any of y'all went to Austin.
It's probably been a couple of years. Yeah, went years
Barton Springs a few years ago. Okay, not really downtown Austin,
but in the area. I remember you doing that, yes,
and twice in the last four years. Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I used to live in Austin and in you know,
before Ben and I were full time in radio and
when I was working a little more in the music business,
I would, you know, go to south By Southwest as
part of my job. I was sitting there thinking last
night or no. But going into this weekend, I was like,
so I was, I went to Austin for a quick
trip to go see some music things with a buddy.

(01:19):
And I was like, man, I used to live down here.
I don't think I've been to Austin realistically since two
thousand and nine. I mean, that's a long ass time again,
and I used to go there all the time, so
it's changed quite a bit, as you can imagine. And
me and my buddy, we had a room in downtown
kind of near Fifth and San Jack. Basically, if you know,

(01:40):
do you guys know Congress Avenue in Austin, it's it's
a it's it's the it's the street that runs north
south and kind of cuts downtown in half. It goes
all the way across the river. So and a lot
of legendary things, like you guys have seen the Austin
Motel with the Neon sign that looks like a dong.
Oh of course, Okay, that's right off Corn and it

(02:01):
goes all the way up and he just goes right
into the state Capitol. Right. I don't know Austin like
the back of my hand, right, Okay, you've if you've
been to Austin and partied. You've been near Congress and
you've been near Sixth Street. You guys have been on Sixth.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Street, right, That's what I got to bring up. That's
the street I know.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Yeah, So sixth Street will u will cross Congress. It's perpendicular.
So all seventh and Sixth and Fifth they all run
like east and west, and then Congress runs north and south,
and then there's the river that's like the downtown area.
So we were staying at a hotel in downtown. And
once you're in downtown we pulled in Saturday afternoon, traffic

(02:37):
is insane. Yeah, so once you pull in, you're just
gonna uber everywhere. You don't want to drive right, And
so the things that we were going to do, the
shows that we were going to, were all along Fifth Avenue,
so we were basically within about a twenty minute corridor
of everything.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
So it reminded me of the old days of Austin.
I could easily get everywhere.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
So we get there, we're like, all right, before we
go to this show tonight, we want to walk, so
where to eat? So we get we get recommendations from
the lady at the hotel and she says oh. We
were like, yeah, we't's do you know talker ee or something.
She goes, oh, you're going to want to go to
ten ten tacos. It's great, just punch in ten ten
it'll come right up. Okay, all right, so it's time

(03:18):
for us. We got about an hour before we need
to get an uber and go to the east side
to go to our show. I pull up ten ten
the restaurant. It's within walking distance. Guys, it's an eight
minute walk.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Okay, all right, it's only ninety five degrees. So we
start walking.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
We get to Congress Avenue and they have all these
barricades up and we're like, uh oh, yeah, there's a
pride parade. It's and it's Austin, so you can imagine
what a pride parade in Auburn is. Like, right, you
were destined to be there this weekend.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
I'm geeked.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
But how am I going to get to the other
side of Congress walking in order to get to this
food place? The parade hadn't started yet. We're frantically looking
about how to cross. This is your Japanese interval walking training,
right cross the barid So I go. The police officers
like if you go one block, you can cross. Like great,

(04:11):
we go down one block, we cross, no problem, keep walking.
We get to ten ten, we walk up and we're like,
this isn't a Tacorea. It's a fusion Asian place called
ten ten oh. Oh. The place the lady recommended was
called dz DzH ten ten in Spanish.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I'd tell you can't trust the locals. I'm like, g dad,
So I pull it up.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
And because it's downtown with traffic, it's a twenty six
minute uber ride, or it's a fifteen minute walk back
the other way.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
In ninety five degree weather. We choose the fifteen minute walk.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
By the time it's back on the other side, if
we had just punched it in in Spanish, it was
a five minute walk from our hotel original, so we
got to cross back over the other side. By the
time we get to Congress Avenue, the parade is ready
to go. In that area that we crossed is blocked off.
We're gonna have to walk all the way down to
the river where the parade starts, walk across and come back.

(05:18):
So that and I'm wearing these shoes that aren't laced up.
So that walk to dinner ended up being fifty minutes
of walk time.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Does she think that she should say ten ten tacos
to you? I don't know. I meant a white man. Yeah,
I just I don't understand. But let me let me
tell you.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Guys walking fifty minutes in a downtown area, frantically trying
to get somewhere.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
I just now recovered this morning.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
The entire weekend, I felt like I had been trucked,
so sore my knees, my ankles, my hips, my ears,
it's all yours.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Well, this is just you Just start walking shoes.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
You know I'm wearing I'm wearing unlaced dumps ears hurting.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Just it all hurts, It all hurts.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
So and then also we stayed out late Saturday night,
stayed out late Sunday night, and then I drove back
yesterday and had to go and be at an event
at five point thirty. And this is this is the
weekend where I realized I am old. Like the things
I used to do and want to do and had
no problem doing. It's all in the rear view mirror.

(06:32):
Fifteen minutes of walking downtown and unlaced shoes will ruin
me for seventy two hours God love Yost. It was
a fun trip. Yes, all right, there it is things
Skin is tracking. Coming up next, it's the Hollywood Shuffle.
Let's do a deep dive into that controversial SNL draft
that happened last night. You've got to hear this. It's
next right here on the Eagle
