“Have you ever stumbled across a forest in the middle of Dallas?”
That’s the question that kicks off a surprisingly heartfelt and hilarious episode of The Ben and Skin Show, as Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray uncover the story behind one of the most exciting new music venues in North Texas: the Longhorn Backyard Amphitheater.Nestled just one mile south of Downtown Dallas and tucked behind the historic Longhorn Ballroom, this soon-to-open 6,500-capacity amphitheater is more than just a concert space—it’s a symbol of revitalization, community, and killer live music. KT breaks the news with his signature “veteran news anchor” flair, and Skin shares his exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the venue, courtesy of Dallas music legend Edwin Cabaniss.🎸 Key Highlights Include:
  • Skin’s poetic description of Hermanos Gutiérrez as “Latin Explosions in the Sky”—a must-hear for guitar lovers.
  • A hilarious breakdown of DFW venue sizes, from Choctaw’s “great sandwich” vibes to Dos Equis’ 20K sweat-fest.
  • A thoughtful discussion on how the amphitheater is bringing jobs and energy to a lesser-known part of Dallas.
  • Krystina’s curiosity about guitar duos and KT’s classic deadpan delivery of “Neato” that somehow steals the show.
🌳 Whether you're a music junkie, a Dallas native, or just here for the laughs, this episode blends humor, heart, and hype in a way only Ben, Skin, KT, and Krystina can deliver.

the world.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
I got an email today. I thought I would tell
you guys about the email I got today.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I want to hear about it. Uh writing.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Located on the banks of the original Trinity River, the
six five hundred person capacity Longhorn Backyard Amphitheater will host
a series of soft opening shows this fall, starting with
the Randy Rogers Band on September twentieth, twenty twenty five.
A grand opening with a full calendar of events will

(00:43):
commence in the spring of twenty twenty six, providing North
Texas musical lovers with a state of the art outdoor
music venue just one mile south of downtown Dallas. We're
working on something exciting. Check back soon for updates. So
big soft opening Saber twentieth for the Longhorn Backyard Amphitheater.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Rendering is pretty neat. I have been there.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
This is humble brag time. So I went to go
see Ermanos Getierres a.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Couple of weeks ago. Which have you ever checked them out?

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Christina No being a lover of the guitar as you are,
you might want to check them out. It's two brothers
at play guitar and it's instrumental music. I would I
would describe it as Latin explosions in the sky. Oh
like you know how it's mood guitar at lights but
for an Hispanic high school Yeah right. It's in Laredo, right,

(01:39):
and our buddy Adrian Quesada does stuff with him, and
so they came through and the man who owns the Kestler,
Edwin and also Longhorn Ballroom, and also the originally very
sweet guy, he was at the show and he was like,
hey man, you want to go see what we're doing
out here.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
And so this was back in mid May.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
So I saw this three weeks ago, but he took
me back there in this is going to be effing incredible,
like gorgeous.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
The renderings look great.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Does it have what the capacity is in that article
five hundred? Okay, I was gonna guess eight thousand, sixty
five hundred. And it's like right just south of the
actual Longhorn Ballroom, So you'll walk that when you go
to the Longhorn Ballroom, there's.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
That big area in the middle.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
You know, that is open to everything, and it's you
basically can go all the way through there, all the
way to the back to get to the Amphitheater.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
It's really really cool.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
So so the biggest venue is going to be at
and T one hundred thousand, ninety thousand. Then you've got
like at and T American Airline Center. Oh, what's Dicky?
Dicky's probably seventeen thousand, sixteen thousand, let me say that, yeah,
because that's about like AC that's where Wu Tang Clan
and Run the Jewels played on Friday Night.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Okay, they're saying fourteen fourteen.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Okay, So then my the smaller ones than that in between,
like I don't know, like what's a two thousand person venue.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Bomb Factory.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I think you can get thirty five hundred, okay, okay,
And so there's not a lot in between that thirty
five and fifteen thousand, right, Yeah, so this is perfect
for that, Yeah, absolutely, And I'm wondering too, so when
dose Ekis has packed out, is that fifteen thousand?

Speaker 2 (03:22):
What is that? I want to say they can get
up to twenty, but I could be wrong. Okay, that's
one of the giant ones.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
And then also when you pack out Toyota, what do
you get in there?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Twelve thousand thirty.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
No, I have that right here, hold on it is
Uh they are eight thousand people in the Amphitheater. Okay
if they open it up in the back and they
have the lawn, gotcha, you know, so that they are
alwaysuck in the summer, they don't really have that open.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
To Shakta Durant was that three four?

Speaker 1 (03:48):
I think they can get four in there, thirty five
hundred to four thousand, which man.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
I love. Yeah at that place rules.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Yeah, this is a but also there's a thing about
it where this is just very store.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
There's so much attached on a river bank.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, right there, and you can you can see it
like you go back there.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
It's it's cool.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
I mean there's a lot of trees and stuff. Yeah,
but dude, it's right there so lately neat.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, just say Dusseki's twenty is their max capacity. Okay,
it's just three thousand for Choctaw at the Grand Theater.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Okay. This is a kind of like. There's Panther Allen
Pavilion in Fort Worth.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
They host a lot of shows, including Shack's big DJ
festival every every summer. J kind of like that because
that one they're big thing at Panther Allen Pavilion is
it's rapped by the water and they kind of promote
that heavily.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I would be lying if I told you I knew,
because I've never been to Panther Island Pavilion. I've just
know I know there's shows there, but I've never actually
seen it. This is very This is like tucked away
because there's trees all around it. Yeah, like it's in
the back behind the longhornball Room.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
I remember when they moved the Byron Nelson to Trinity
Forest and it just for a further south than we're
talking about. This is gonna be one mile south of downtown.
But it is kind of crazy to see in certain
parts of town how many trees there are and how
foresty it can.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Kind of seen.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah, when we're just kind of used to thinking that
we bake all the time and there's concrete, but there
are little pockets down there in Dallas that we probably
don't go to enough that are like, oh man, there
is like some nature here and stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
And one of the cool things about what they're doing
down there is they're bringing jobs to an area where
there's not a lot of jobs and opportunities. You know,
that's part of why the city got behind this initiative.
So there's a lot of development, a lot of stuff
going in there, and it's creating jobs for people. But
man Edwin knows what he's doing. I mean, it is
going to be a really, really cool venue, and I

(05:43):
bet there's gonna be some amazing shows, Anito, It's all right,
We're going to keep you laughing. In the back half
of the final hour of the show. We've got remarkable
moments from Friday show at Chalk Talk Casino and Resort Durant.
We're going to replace some of that coming up at
about five forty. Coming up next, we're gonna crank up
the wayback machine things that happened this week, ten years ago.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
That's next.
